more balance yes, but also for the "old players". I can not imagine how far a new player can these days do on ladder S:
True I am currently seeing on rank 15 a full miracle rogue against me.. feels bad for new players really what can they even play when people in rank 15 got complete lists? (just too lazy to climb, ok?)
FH was meta from naxx to LOE then it lost hard to all the druids and renolocks, dunno about vanilla I didn't play it, I started a little before GVG launched, but I heard everyone was just playing miracle rogue all the time, and no deck could possibly win against it.
Face Hunter was never a T1 deck tho it was too cheap and fast so it was like a starter deck for new players. Currently Pirate decks are T1 deck you have to create a deck in order to counter them but when you do it you are instantly start to get crushed by tier 2-3 decks
Well there was a time that every class was pretty good except Shamans. Midrange Paladin, Control Warrior & Priest, Combo Druid, Miracle Rogue, Freeze Mage or Mech Mage, Zoolock & Handlock, and Face Hunter. That was GVG era I think with lightbomb and Dr Boom. 8/9 is close to perfect, Dr Boom was a huge mistake though imo. Now it is either a coin toss at fifth turn or a fatigue game. So no, this meta is not healthy imo, but it is better for sure than 2 months back.
Right now as far as Tier 1 decks we have 5 classes represented. Within those 5 classes you have 2 aggro decks, 2 control decks, 1 mid range deck, and 1 combo deck. That's some pretty good representation. Granted Paladin, druid and hunter are SOL right now but this expansion was a step in the right direction.
I like the current meta, some builds like pirate warrior and aggro shaman are pretty strong here, same with miracle / pirate rogue, but I feel aside from zoo (which with discard zoo, I've had reasonable luck with) most all classes have at least one pretty solid deck option.
I'm a little worried, as I've had a ton of fun learning maly rogue, which while not the strongest deck is def one of the most fun. The hit of losing emperor and tomb pillager will more than likely kill this deck unless it turns into a total double cutpurse and double burgly bully and double counterfeit coin deck, but then the cost of trying to get maly out while trying to survive that long will definitely slide way down.
I've looked into other desks I play and most all of them will be destroyed by the cycle, to the point of where I'm trying to weigh whether it's worthwhile to continue to craft cards for other desks. I have a somewhat gimmicky but somewhat fun taunt warrior, using cards like bolster to build strong taunt minions who fatigue swarm decks and are strong enough late game to finish for you once your opponent is low on lethality. It's reasonably effective but could be improved with cycopians and a couple higher end taunts for tech against swarm but why bother at this point?

Yeah I feel bad for new players. Even all the way down at rank 20 you'll find tier 1-2 decks all throughout the season.
Just quoted you 2 guys cause of the "separate" theme we are talking about.
I dont know how would the community see a buff in maybe rewards in arena or simply card packs. I am not saying that they are not great, but lets be serious, people needs lots of grinding time nowadays. i, as arena player (as i dont like to play with and against the same cards every single time) can no longer compete in ladder. I just got unlucky with MSOG packs and got only 1 legen in like pack 30 or so.. (and all packs from arena, which with a mediocre average wins is even cheaper that the packs from shop). What i mean is, even though i got already all adventures, and the most needed cards in expansions, i will just cant even catch any P2W player in future expansions.. so, how is doing right now a player with just 2-3 Months old? Just.. absurd.
I hope they buff somehow the "free-content" or this will just highly lose a lot of players.
I like the meta right now alright, but I get so tired of hearing "Who goes thar? I'm in charge now!" and "We're gonna be rich!" that they haunt me in my dreams.
My favorite was WOTOG right after the first Standard rotation. It was so much fun to see peoples' creativity after having Naxx and GVG moved elsewhere.

just my opinion =)
As a business model - what your are saying is exactly the opposite of what a good new player experience should be.
New players should be able to at any point, come in and with relative ease be able to 'buy-in' for a reasonable fee and be able to obtain a tier 2-3 deck for a modest initial purchase. Making a smaller and less impactful standard set and having more impactful 'on-the-run' sets enables that.
Face it, new paying players are what keep HS alive for Blizz and therefore are what make F2P possible. You need to accept that if you are doing F2P you will only barely be able to keep up with the legends and rares that you might want. If you are going to be F2P you will not be able to have each classes tier 1 decks, you will be lucky to be able to field 1 or 2 of the newest and hottest top tier decks.
I am F2P and you have to be choosy about what decks you want to build and be very judicious with dust use. I would love to be able to craft patches, but I won't do it because I have never had a decent warrior deck before and so I ignore that class. (And no reason to build miracle pirate rogue it seems.
Also, there are usually some pretty great budget deck ideas that turn out fairly strong - budget evolve shaman rocks.
As a player you should want Blizzard to rake in dough from paying players, even if it means that as soon as you cobble together most of a tier 1 deck, a new set release invalidates it.
Also, if you are lucky enough to have started a while ago, you can always lean on wild and secret palladin for some stable wins that don't usually need many of the cards from new sets. There was like zero effect on secret palladin from karazan and MSG - and if you don't run nzoth, then even wotog was irrelevant.
Two simple changes would definitely make this the best meta imo:
Remove Patches
Remove jade idol
Jade Idol is almost a non factor with jade druid being wrecked by the aggro meta. It's just the chance of a jade druid popping up is what forced many control decks to tweak their list away from the fatigue setup, which in my opinion was a welcome change. Heaven forbid should they try something different. As far as patches goes he's not the only thing driving the pirate package, if you took him out it would likely still be a thing since it was a thing before MSoG. Personally I think weapons should be treated like the card Charge and not allowed to go face the first turn. I think it's a reasonable change and only slightly slows down the aggro meta, however this is an unpopular opinion.

I really think so 6/9 of the classes got tier 1-2 decks the 3 that don't have were REALLY dominant in the past (Druid,Paladin and Hunter)
People just whine too much, please let enlighten me when the meta was better?
Vanilla: freeze mage and miracle rogue, much interactive very fun wow.
Naxx: Undertaker hunter and zoo meta (basically "bring out your dead!"
GVG: mech mage and undertaker hunter, and basically every deck run Dr. Boom or it isn't considered a real deck.
BRM: EVERYONE GET IN HERE and combo druid (post UT nerf)
TGT: WHO AM I? none of your business, combo druid, zoo, grim patron warrior OTK.
LOE: face shaman,secret paladin,combo druid.
WOTOG:face shaman, warriorstone and god of RNG win games.
ONIK: pre nerfs: shamanstone postnerfs:shamanstone.
MSOG: miracle rogue, renolock, renomage, dragon priest, miracle rogue(post nerf, more balanced),pirate warrior, aggro shaman.
stated the top of tier 2 + tier 1 decks or what I remember
I think this is the best meta so far really and people whine all the time cuz they lose.
And.. every meta people complained about OP decks BTW.
When was it face hunter meta ?, i cant remember
It's probably the most healthy at least.. :)
Playing since 1 June 2014.

It's either right now or just after LoE. I really like Kazakus and the Jade dynamics.
LOE just had so many new and fresh dynamics. Brann, Reno, Elise, Sir Finley, Anyfin, and Discovery were all amazing.
LOE just did so many things right.. new mechanics, awesome story, lots of innovation.. my favorite so far
