Now its not that I hate the whole expansion, I do think some very cool cards and concepts where released but I feel like this expansion has been very underwhelming. I'm going to start with classes, mechanics, and everything else.
**Note these are all personal opinions if you don't agree that's fine but please leave constructive comments
1) Paladin
Maybe this is just personal but I'm really not a fan of the direction this class is going. The whole buff zoo thing just doesn't cut it for me. As a player who loves to think every turn Zoo paladin just has never been an archetype I've been proud of.
2) Rogue
I'm seriously confused about what Team 5 is doing here. I understand they don't like combo and don't want to buff Miracle but can they at least make a good archetype for Rogue. They've tried to push Burgle, and Stealth, with a bit of pirate but they don't work. The card designs have been piss poor with a fucking worse huckster as legendary, lazy ass brewmaster, Stanglehorn v2, Stealthed Magma Rager (That was like a personal insult). Ik there are tons of threads talking about this but I'm so done.
3) Hold Mechanic
Although we have seen a few in hand/deck minion buff cards before they haven't been on the scale and velocity that Gadgetzan brought them to. I simply just think it's a boring mechanic to have a whole theme of. The mechanic resulted in a lot of boring looking cards and I feel like this will bring out a type of deck that is really skilless to play.
4) Shitty Cards/Worst Legendaries
I know there are shitty cards in every expansion but I'm seriously thinking bout quitting hearthstone after this. They continually pump out half ass cards that will never see play in any format. I know filler cards do have some purpose (Mainly because they do appear frequently in arena) but what really urkes me are the legendaries. Only 1 neutral legendary in the whole set is 8+ and it's a fucking 5/4. I seriously don't get the idea behind the Legendaries in Gadgetzan. Like wtf are cards like Genzo, the Shark, Auctionmaster Beardo and Mayor Noggenfogger Legendary cards. Does putting an interesting effect (That's shit) on a card with piss poor stats now make it a legendary. I know not all Gadgetzan Legendaries were bad (In fact a lot were pretty cool but it's when Blizzard releases cards like these in the Legendary spot when there are Common and Rare cards that could be better. For some really wierd feeling it seems like Team 5 doesn't really give a shit about improving the game when they release these sort of cards.
5) Jade Idol
This is probaly the best Hearthstone card ever released. The bliz devs must be high when they were making this card because it is so insane. The Problem with this card is that it makes it so you never lose the fatigue battle and that's a serious problem. Adding one card in your deck shouldn't allow you to counter a whole archetype. With one card you can never worry about losing a match against a Control deck and that's a serious problem. Blizzard needs to nerf this card because cards like these break Hearthstone.
6) "Shaman Treatment"
When I say Shaman Treatment I mean class rotation. The format Blizzard uses to decide which classes are OP and which suck dick. What happens is they add a bunch of insane cards to a class and then the next expansion they add OP cards to another class...etc.. The problem with this is that never are the 9 classes 'meta'. There is always a few shitty classes and people that play those classes feel like smoldering ass. Now this wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem if Blizzard made these OP classes hard to play but that's not the case. What happens is you get Ez curve shaman being a Top deck (A very low skilled deck that can be piloted by newbs) and people who actually spend time and effort working and harnessing their HS skills get punished for playing and trying out skilled decks. Blizzard either needs to make it so the OP classes take skill to play, or make every class lIke Warrior (Can play Control, Midrange, Tempo, Aggro etc..(Multiple Archetypes). I think Patron Warrior (Pre 2nd warsong nerf) is a great example. The deck was incredibly strong but it took a ton of skill to play. Anyone could pilot it but only the most skilled players would find great success in the deck. Hearthstone will become a much better game if skill is actually rewarded in deck building and in the meta.
That's pretty much all I have to say as of now, please comment below to let me hear your opinions.
1. Paladin Handbuff deck seems to be more of a Midrange deck in all honesty.
2. Miracle is still gonna be good regardless.
3. Most good decks don't require any skill these days anyway, so nothing new here
4. You are underrating the legendaries a lot, which i don't think is justified. Mayor Noggenfogger is pretty hard to evaluate imo with an effect that wild. Flashbacks of prenerf Yogg might come up you know. Auctionmaster is a weird legendary with Garrison Commander existing i will admit that though. Also even if the cards are bad, not every legendary in the expansion can be made just for you, everyone doesn't want to play the same way you do.
5. The self Gang Up portion of the card is absolutely worthless against faster decks, which just so happen to always end up being batshit broken in this game. Also, Druid's hard removal isn't the best, so you can't quarantee beating the control deck always.
6. Balancing a card game is difficult and to be honest i don't think a deck being too "op" is that good for the game even if it is hard to pilot, especially for tournaments where everyone is skilled at the game anyway.
I agree most of the things you say. This expansion will turn Shamanstone into Prieststone. Even if you lose to Shaman it was quick and painless. Shaman will give you a swift death but the priest will torture you, out value you, kill you turn by turn, they will make you feel helpless. It will be 20 minutes of healing, stealing and finishing you with your own minion. it will be real pain in the ass. Overpowering priest will lead to a very slow meta that kills the aggro & midrange.
1, zoo paladin wont work , draw dependent, divine favor in deck when out resources=concede
2. Rogue no longer counter priest and warrior. Miracle- new tech again stealth when miracle rogue popular or insane healing card by priest counter maly rogue. need set up otk combo to win but hard. you will burn spell to clear the board especially vs dragon priest etc
3. hold mechanic just another RNG feast by blizzard. you will random saw 4 mana 7-7 from hunter, warrior , paladin. no answer= concede
4, shitty, filler and bad legendary and epic. 80% of epics and legendary wont see play in meta. will only see play in gimmick deck ie: random reno deck fill with 20 legendary but very inconsistency.then come here open salt threads after loses few games again shaman and new priest.
around average 20 pack 1 legendary but high chance u get trash legendary and dust it.unless you are really lucky. blizzard wan you average 40-60 pack good legendary or even more pack. they can earn more profits.
5. jade golem so far only druid works. can play in normal malydruid deck with 2 jade idol, and other to jade golem card. to rekt control matchup, rogue only work when have perfect draw in hand. shadow step, brew master, new trash combo 2 drop etc.
6 the priest will become next shaman. maybe even worst. can heal, can board clear, can win control match up. entomb.
Normally when an expansion is announced, I start off being like "well lets see how this turns out" then I usually end up doing the pre-order bonus thing. Not this time. I am not even gonna reinstall Hearthstone and play for free. Nooooot worth it.
Paladin has seen success with many archetypes over the years. Midrange, aggro, secret, N'Zoth and Anyfin all play really differently. I don't think the existence of a goon deck will affect the viability of any of the currently decent control alternatives. I think it's good to have options.
Rogue is screwed and always has been, with Miracle being their only good deck since forever. No argument there, but it's not exactly a Gadgetzan issue.
The hold mechanic seems okay to me. It's certainly more interesting than face/burn and zoo-style decks where the most interesting card is just a big ball of stats. Simple mechanics aren't bad, there are still people who are beginners at HS, and they should have simple decks to start out with.
Jade Idol is not an autowin against decks that go to fatigue. It's good, yes, but not broken in that sense. When you reach fatigue and enter topdeck mode, you will be doing one turn shuffle 3 idols, two turns play a big guy, repeat. That is not going to cut it when the opponent still has removal and can out-tempo your single big dudes, or overwhelm you with N'Zoth, or OTK you with Anyfin, etc. The decks this card counters is fatigue/mill decks, not control in general. Also, I have a feeling that your other Jade cards will be enough to outvalue most control decks, with or without the idol.
The problem with not having class OP rotations is that instead you may get classes that are stuck being mediocre. People may be worried that Priest is becoming overcompensated now, but there would be an even bigger outcry if they got just okay cards. It takes a big boost for a never-played class to become good again, and it's easy to overshoot, but more importantly it would be a disaster if the buffs weren't enough and the class still sees no play. Hitting that sweet spot is hard, really hard.
Good stuff, agree on every point. Was also surprised how they made paladin cards exclusively cheap zoo thing. But rogue takes the fuckin cake. Wtf is this shit? Also Genzo, the Shark? What is this, worse version of Jeeves? Are you out of your mind printing legendaries like this blizzard?
1. it's the direction team 5 wants pladin to go.. you might not like it.. it's not meant to appeal to everyone.
2. Rogue is the new meme class
3.s ame as 1 your opinion, this is the expasion theme.
4. The legendary status is used if an effect would be too strong for a 2 off or if the character is unique.. they might have some named characters that wthey wanted to give an effect that would suit them.. anyway I think legendaries should be less shitty.
5. Plain bad card design. I agree
6. Agree blizzard should make small progress on buffing classes and not make them broken..
I agree most of the things you say. This expansion will turn Shamanstone into Prieststone. Even if you lose to Shaman it was quick and painless. You do realize that priest was predicted to rule 3 expansion in a row based on the card they were getting. Never happened. Will most likely not happen this time around neither.
Noone gave a shit about Mysterious Challenger when it was revealed. It dominated the meta for 9 months straight. Dr.Boom. No comment.
You can't judge anything about an expansion before it's been out for atleast 6 weeks.

That's ridiculous, no one predicted priest to be anything other than trash tier for the past few expansions. I do agree that you can't really judge an expansion until a couple of weeks in, but saying priest was wrongly predicted to be top tier in the past is just ludicrous.
It's amazing how people whine before the expansion is released. Priest will always have counters (e.g. handlock) and it still seems that Priest will play fairly slow decks, which I think will struggle against jade golems - depending on how fast the dragon priest will become. See how the meta develops and then you can react to it.
Whining aside, it seems like the meta is going to be like this: Aggro Decks>Jade Idol Decks>Reno Decks>Aggro Decks and so on. Winning on ladder is mostly going to be a dice roll, unless an other deck will beat all of those 3, perhaps midrange Shaman.

He meant Naxx and GvG (I really really doubt in BRM anyone ever talked about priest ruling the meta), wich is kinda true.
But guess what? Priest died because 1) standard took their best off. 2) Handlock died. "Lol, priest was hard countered by handlock" you'll say. But guess what hard countered handlock? Face decks with spell burst. And guess what countered face decks with spell burst? Yup, priests.
So we could say that brought some balance to the game, balance wich for some reason Team 5 wanted to exterminate. Now they seem to be shooting in the dark, because somehow they seem unable to test their stuff to logic levels (I mean, did they knew Anyfin Can Happen was an OTK card? And that a 4 mana 7/7 with 2 overload was bullshit? And that Cloaked Huntress will be practically a common 3 mana Mysterious Challenger?) And yet they try to act like they know what they are doing and it's good. How can be any good to force a class to be a sex slave of a goblin forever because you lack the will to make her something that can compete with other classes in a normal way? And how can you be meanwhile so enthusiastic giving cards to an absolutely broken class wich is going to be just borderline broken after new standard year kicks in?
I mean, look at GvG, and tell me how many neutral legendaries and epics were seriously played besides Dr Boom and Fel Reaver and Hobgoblin? Or in TGT besides Justicar, Chillmaw and Twilight Guardian? In WotOG we had three Old Gods, Emperor, and sometimes Crazed Worshipper, but that was al about it. Here we will have the three gangsters... maybe Patches the Pirate, Sergeant Sally, Dirty Rat or Burgly Bully, but nothing out of the average rate of playable legends and epics.
And of course, no words on Ferryman and Shadow Rager. That was plain insulting
Whining aside, it seems like the meta is going to be like this: Aggro Decks>Jade Idol Decks>Reno Decks>Aggro Decks and so on. Winning on ladder is mostly going to be a dice roll, unless an other deck will beat all of those 3, perhaps midrange Shaman.
looks like it, Goon aggro-ish decks spiral out of control before Jade Golems do their work, Jade Golems get through AoEs and crush the highlander Kabal, and Kabal AoE cleans boards and removes Goons threats while pushing them back.
Or at least that's the theory (thinking of it, amazing, if you look at the trailer, that's exactly what they picture, Goons beating Lotus, Lotus beating Kabal and Kabal beating Goons). There will always be that one that somehow can't live up to its expectance (I mean, even while being viable meta-wise, like a Jade Druid that never gets to abuse Jade Idol vs a Kabalock.
The biggest problem I have with this set, and with the Dean Ayala interview, is that Blizzard is just refusing to print cards to deal with the problems at hand as opposed to introducing mechanics that no one will use. Look at Warlock, there isn't a single playable card for Zoo in the set and nothing to create a Control Warlock deck to compensate for the Magma Giant nerf. We get a 7 mana Demon that is worse than a Baaron Armageddon, a 6 mana board sweeper that is extremely risky vs aggro and at most we get a Kabal Legendary to make Reno Jackson decks suck a little less at the 5 mana point when they're desperate for point removal to replace Dark Bomb. Meanwhile Shaman get an entirely new archetype with Jade Chieftan, Jade Lightning and Jade Claws, several playable 4 mana cards to fill their curve, premium removal and a Discover card and wont even bother to play with any of them because the current MIdrange Shaman deck is completely ridiculous. I never thought a standard rotation, nerfs, 2 expansion and an adventure would make me long for the days of the Secret Paladin era.
I think you are really underestimating [card] Genzo, the Shark[/card]. That card is a lot likeJeeves. In the right deck (AKA, aggro), it'll be great.
Mayor Noggenfodder is tough to evaluate at this point. I don't think it will be great, but be like Mogor the Ogre. We'll have to see, however.
To Blizzard's credit, they don't have a lot of RNG cards in this expansion. There's always a few, but it feels a lot more like Vanilla in that respect.
The main problem I have with this expansion is that all of the new themes in this expansion (Jade Golem, hand buffs, and controlly Kabal) are so incredibly overpowered, much better than past decks (yes... even the Purifier). I'm guessing that the meta will contain no decks seen today (apart from the fun ones... Renounce Darkness FTW), and everyone will have to play one of these themes to survive in this new world. Am I mad about nothing?

Many people had the same concern just before the release of Old Gods, but once the experimentation phase died down, the meta was actually reasonably diverse. I get the sense that there are at least three archetypes per class that will be worth trying out -- many options beyond the big three you mentioned.

Prolly gonna craft White Eyes. That thing looks good.
