Your card must have a significant detriment/drawback that compensates for its good stats or strong effect.
The "detriment" cannot just be poor stats or a high mana cost.
Pepe and "RIP Ben Brode" memes are not allowed...and let's keep the 4-mana 7/7 memes to a minimum plz.
Clarification Edit: "The intention behind this theme is to make a card with a crippling drawback/defect/detriment that holds it back in 95-99% of game situations, but could still be usable in that remaining niche window."
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 21:00 UTC 26/4/2018) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 26/4/2018 Ends 21:00 UTC 30/4/2018) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 30/4/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 1/5/2018) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 1/5/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 2/5/2018) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.

The main problem I see here is what counts as a "significant" detriment because that can be VERY subjective. I feel like a lot of cards this time around will be eligible or not entirely based on what mods say.

That is definitely true, but it's what we got :/
Fel Reaver was Yopaiii's given example: something with a very bad effect that is still theoretically playable in the right circumstances. We extrapolated from that to determine the other examples.

I feel like a card in line with Book of Specters would work well as a detriment. Obviously this isn't TOO much better than Ghost Light Angler but the +2 Health and Elemental tag should count, especially when considering Ozruk.
+3 stats over the traditional 3-drop, but makes it so that you can't draw at the start of your turn. Note that you can still draw via cards like Loot Hoarder or Power Word: Shield. This was intentional as I thought it would limit the possibilities of locking yourself out of cards, which is still possible. In fatigue, this effect could even be an upside because it prevents you from taking fatigue damage at the start of your turn.

That seems like a reasonable entry, yeah. Being unable to draw at the start of your turn is a bad situation to be in, but the stats can make up for it and/or you can play around the terrible effect.

Alright, this is what I got for now, aside from the 4 Mana 7/7 meme, I tried, to say the least D:
Exploration Squad dormant effects activates at the start of each player's turn, so you would be like 2 turns without that minion and a useless space, maybe I should make that text clearer if it's good.
The main problem I see here is what counts as a "significant" detriment because that can be VERY subjective. I feel like a lot of cards this time around will be eligible or not entirely based on what mods say.
"Significant" isn't really enforceable, but having a detriment is, at least.
Here's an idea I had awhile ago that I think fits:
This can't attack if you have no weapon, which is a pretty significant downside. It's not unplayable in Rogue, because you can always get a weapon with your hero power, but that works out to 1 mana per attack, pretty much. Also, I made this before Rush was a thing. I could maybe change it to that.

Yep. I wasn't sure how better to phrase it to emphasize that the bad effect needs to be more than just a limp slap on the wrist; Fel Reaver's downside isn't exactly small. We'll be relatively lenient as needed, but as long as you try to follow along with the intention things should be okay.

@Demonxz95: Did you ever consider making this a Hunter card? It fits within the whole "empty your hand" theme we had back in BrM and TGT.
@nurgling13: Reminds me of Small-Time Buccaneer. It's a bit scary, especially with Charge.
The idea is that he spreads the Curse of Flesh, which turned the tol'vir and other titan-forged from their original rocky forms into beings of, well, flesh. It's not really a "significant" drawback though; sometimes it might even be advantageous.
EDIT: Alternatively, there's this guy I forgot about, the ancient. Not very creative but I like the flavor.
Millhouse's Apprentice: Not as big of a negative effect as Millhouse Manastorm, but still pretty big for the stats.
Recruit Gobbler: A big detriment because you can't use it in most aggressive decks, and it renders your hero power useless, unless your Uther of the Ebon Blade.
Reckless Pyromancer: To clarify, it would deal 10 damage to your face right away as cards in the past have shown. Not bad for a finisher with two Frostbolt and an Arcane Missiles, for 21 damage. (Actually, now that I think about it, this may be too strong, but that's up for interpretation.)
Would a deckbuilding requirement count as a detriment? For example, requiring an odd or even deck, requiring no cards of a certain cost (Princes), or requiring a singleton deck?

I'm going to say No, they do not count for this theme. Deckbuilding restrictions don't really mesh with the spirit of what we're looking for. They are their own separate thing and occur before the game begins, whereas cards like Fel Reaver have problematic effects that influence the game as it plays out.

Ideas for this week.
Don't listen to what anyone else says about it, memes are good for the soul
Flavor: Boom might be better, but at least this guy's balanced.
EDIT: 2nd idea enroute
My Idea for a fun minion that gets a stat boost with the draw back of killing your other stuff.
Give a thumbs up or offer suggestions if you have some thanks :)
