Also, what people fail to realize that are happy "for a new archetype", discard warlock is almost entirely a hyperaggro-face deck. Be careful what you wish for.
So you build your deck around discards, and get a hand with only 1-2 of these, yes... but then, did you ever have 2 doomguards or soulfires in your hand? Not that great, is it?
Well the problem is that Warlock has the best Hero Power from the whole game and that it already has tier one decks (Zoo and Reno obv:).
So its hard to give them more good cards.. and thats why they try to support another archetype..maybe Handlock could use some love too, but thats hard to do without helping Reno I guess..
It's their job to create cards that are options. Not mandatory replacements. But sadly, they fail utterly at that. Either we get powercreeps or we get unplayable filler cards no one will play. A viable 2 drop that competes with Paddler, Knife Juggler etc doesn't need to be stronger than them - just be a playable alternative.
It's just sad that discard cards are weaker than shaman's overload stuff. Sure, succubus trades into Totem Golem, but totem golem survives most early game plays, while Sucubus does not. Librarian as well. These cards surely needed decent health to last a few cards, to compensate you losing a card as well. If Succubus was 3/4 it surely would be played even outside discard decks.
I count 1, 2, aaaaand3 Warlock cards. I guess that means Warlock doesn't get that shiny purple portal we saw.
The only other classes that deal with shadowy-ish......stuff, would be Priest and Rogue. So, do we get some kind of Shadow Priest support? Or do Rogues get minion summons? An interesting thought.
Discard Zoo would use a totally different set of cards, dropping these 6/7 cards as well as cards which trigger them, such as Forbidden Ritual and instead use 12-14 "discard matters" cards such as Silverware Golem and Darkshire Librarian.
It would probably still get called "Zoo" but that name is increasingly inaccurate. "Zoo" is a term ported over from M:tG and refers to a pile of efficient creatures with a low curve forming an aggressive deck without any specific synergies. The original Zoo decks in Hearthstone fit this description well but the synergetic "Go Wide" variant currently seeing use, or a potential "Disco Inferno" variant using these new cards, should really have their own name as they have their own distinctive synergies.
Discard mechanic in HS is terrible, so this card is also terrible. At least Zoolock didn't get another OP card like Darkshire Councilman from this adventure.
Community: "We need more cards like Fist of Jaraxxus to make discardlock viable". Blizz gives it to us. "Wow. Trash". Honestly people, not everything needs to be for zoo. I played a fun and effective aggrolock based around discard pre-old gods and this and the imp are both going to be excellent additions to it

Most of the communitee isn't able to think on its own so that isn't surprising.
YES! I called for a card like this months ago, and it seems Blizzard was on the same page. A vanilla 3/3 for 3 is fine when you can get it for free in the right deck.

The problem with the Discard archetype is that it relies on too much synergies otherwise all your cards are underwhelming on its own.
Even then, with so much effort from Blizz I definitely can see some tier 2 list with the discard synergy approach. It may be refreshing to see something else than Reno and Zoo, just like Warrior has now 4 or more viable archetypes.
A beginning, but not enough. Blizzard would need a deck full of minions like Silverware Golem and discards and effects that affect discard and effects that makes discard less random to make it viable. So 30 cards that centers alone around discard. And that will not happen.
if there were more discard engines that werent completey fail if you wiff.. i could see discard warlock being a thing...
is somthing i made that i thought would be a nice discard minion as it works as a on going discard engine without you wasting your mana to throw away cards.
They release too few cards during adventures to make a certain deck type effective (basically forcing something to become viable without being too broken.)
Standard format is wonderful for this as people keep throwing money to game and their excuse is to fight power creep.
So yeah, I don't see a discard warlock being that effective with this amount of new cards. It's still a big gamble to pull this card out via its conditional text.
Yah tunnel trogg didn't make aggro shaman or anything.
God I didn't even mention reno too, that pretty much completely destroys your entire point. I guess thats a weird example though since he's a buildaround.
I can probably name individual cards that created deck types over and over again throughout the entire history of hearthstone. A lot of times that one piece of the puzzle is all you need.
Ever heard of Grim Patron? Mysterious Challenger? Call of the Wild? Seriously, I could go on and on.
Been playing since beta days so yeah, I have heard of those.
I said "not too broken." Your examples are all broken ones. Making single card too good instead of making many cards to promote a certain deck type.
Oh yah, Reno is broken as hell, look at our meta full of reno decks.
I call it now: There will be a card in the upcoming expansion / maybe even Karazhan which revives all of your discarded minions.
If this happens, Discolock will be Tier 1.
Not sure if the released cards are enough to push this archetype to a good level though.
All Warlock cards have been revealed with this. And Warlock is only class with discard mechanic. Why would they release a neutral with such effekt? Doesnt make sense imo.

Quick throw together of a demon based discard deck. I have no idea if this even viable. It will be fun to try out though.

Blizzard is like "YOU MUST PLAY DISCARD WARLOCK!!!"... okay okay!!

Modern Zoo decks are all about going wide and abusing such cards as Knife Juggler, Darkshire Councilman, Sea Giant and/or Gormok the Impaler.

Oh if Soulfire would still be 0 mana.

Hope to see it on ladder, ok card!
