New expansion, new meta, new offmeta paladin deck to beat the meta :)
DISCLAIMER: different version / minion setup (12.4.2019)
some people in the forum pointed out that Oondasta + some Beast would fit nicely into my theme and they were completly right! Atm I playtest a different minion setup + my main deck theme and it feels even stronger than my original decklist but I need more games to verifiy it.
original decklist: AAECAZ8FCPoGogmggAO9hgPWmQOKmgOGnQODoAMLjAHcA88G/PwCz4YD7IYD+ZMDxJkDkJoDtJsDhpwDAA==
After testing the whole day I came to the conclusion that Oondasta + 2x Amani War Bears are very good :) the mech package on the other hand disappointed me. I also experimented if consecration/shrink ray is needed and atleast vs my rank3 meta i would say NO.
I uptaded this decklist to my latest version which runs more 1 drop spells to increase the value of Prismatic Lens and it was an instant success 8-1 so far. I posted my hsreplays in the comments below.
Mysterious Big Paladin
The goal of my decklist is similar to the good old big priest decks which used only 1x 4 drop (Barnes) + big minions. Instead of Barnes I use Archmage Vagoth who can recast Prismatic Lens / Duel! for the big tempo swings and even the cheaper spells like Desperate Measures and Call to Adventure can generate insane value.
Prismatic Lens is an insane card if you build your deck around it. Cheap spells + expensive minions is one way to get value out of this card and therfor I decided to play only 4+ mana minions and cheap spells/weapons to handle the early game, risky but since Equality costs 4 I wanted to try a deck without Pyromancer. Prismatlic lens always hits some great minions, especially when Archmage Vargoth is already on board/ in your hand and sometimes it is not as bad as it looks if some of your cheap spells get more expensive because every spell redcuses Shirvallah's mana cost.
The minions of my choice are sticky, generate value at end of turn or are have rush/lifegain as instant response to threatening board states.
Tirion Fordring: is one of the best minions in the game. His weapon helps us to push for lethal damage or control the board, great Redemption target. Ysera: was always an autoinclude in the good old control paladin days and I am happy to play her again. Her end of turn trigger + body stats are great in combination with Duel! or Prismatic Lens discount Big Bad Archmage: He survives most of the Duels! and needs to be answered asap or you generate too much value. There are hardly any bad 6 drops in the current standard format. (update: 6/6 body without taunt is sometimes a very bad pull vs aggro/midrange even though I like the card but atm he does not make the cut into my deck) Batterhead at the first glance this card looks bad but he is a great minion vs aggro/midrange and functions as a board clear. In combination with Lightforged Blessing he can be used as huge life gain. Shirvallah, the Tiger and Zilliax help to regain life and control the board state. Shirvallah + Prismatic Lens results in a 0 mana Shirvallah early on! Archivist Elysiana is the worst target for Duel! but her extra cards are crucial in some matchups because once we start tutoring via Duel! / Prismatic Lens we run out of cards really fast. Baron Geddon is only in the deck for Lifelink + aniti aggro/midrange. great card :) Oondasta: great body + rush, can pull out Shirvallah or Amani War Bear for extra rush minions. Amani War Bear: only in this decklist because of Oondasta. decent blocker/rush minions, survives most of the Duel! fights and can attack an additional time.
Try it out, sadly it is rly expensive to craft but it is fun to play and wins :)
this deck looks amazing! there is no way I could craft all the missing cards, nor do I really like playing paladin. but I respect your deckbuilding skills.

finished my climb to rank5 with 18-2 total stats ( faced 30% rogue, 25% warrior, 20% hunter), somehow the decks seems to counter most of the midrange decks which is kinda funny because i first started to built it as a fun deck :) it just does some unfair things similar to big priest but at the same time it just feels like a fun paladin deck with the good old tirion + ysera duo.
if you are playing on europe server feel free to add me, i can borrow you my deck to test it. strudel#2996
I created a Big Paladin deck yesterday as well, and I’m very happy with it. Mine is quite different and I also use Call to Adventure to tutor my High Priest Thekkal for some early game pressure with Molten Giants. Also, I play wild so I use Ysharrj, Lich King, and Ragnaros. I use some secrets like Resurrection and Divine Shield Matrix to keep my Big minions around for a bit.
I play prismatic paladin a lot and already theocrafted this kind of deck. Had huge sucess in the past and now it has even more tools to shine. :-) Good work.
Only played one game with it. Felt really good dude. Beat a Theif/Tempo Rogue without breaking a sweat despite not drawing into Prismatic Lens or any of the other major Win Cons.
That...sounds actually quite fun. I'm just not sure how you can survive to turn 8/9 without minions entirely and still have big dudes to pull afterwards.
Vargoth + Lens doesn't actually put anything on the board, so you're basically spending a turn doing nothing only to possibly play two cheap big dudes next turn, which a lot of decks can easily take care of at that point
Really like the idea, crafted second Duel! to play around with it. Don't have mysterious blades or desperate measures, and I feel how it really hurts early game.
I use budget Burly Shovelfist, pretty raw but nice Duel pull neverthereless.
Any chance I get an opportunity to play Ysera I get excited, so I spent about 4,000 dust to craft this deck which isn’t much compared to the total but still a big chunk.
I wanted to believe in this deck but it just doesn’t have it. I played about 20 games, started at Rank 4 and finished back at 5 with zero stars I’m not salty and I did have fun. However the deck is too RNG dependent and doesn’t have enough removal; you can easily be overrun.
The RNG with duel can be the most frustrating like pulling your archivist vs a bomb deck. I ended with 45% win rate which for me doesn’t cut it.
After this I played big shaman and had an 80% win rate. It’s much more consistent and has the removal. I def recommend that deck. And it’s much cheaper to craft.
My hat goes off to the deck builder. I think it’s a good idea but currently Paladin doesn’t have the tools to remove the aggrothreats, at least not in this deck.

I play a similar deck but Hecklebot instead of Prismatic Lens (I hate that card) , it's more of the same effect with Duel!, which is the reason I made this deck in the first place, to counter aggro and combo. And Call to Adventure pulls hecklebot on curve before Duel! so it's great
A ton of fun + it counters bomb warrior pretty well.
Can you tell me how good are Batterhead and Big Bad Archmage in the deck ? Do they feel great or just meh ? I feel like mechs and beast are more impactul in general, so I don't rely entirely on Duel! to win games.
I am having a positive winrate with a different list, but the same archetype Mountain Giant's are really strong and i skipped all early game minions. secrets/weapons and cons is enough to survive till turn 4/5 for either Prismatic Lens or Duel!
here is my (unoptimized) list if anyone is interested
Oh I like this idea looks like the direction blizzard was going with some paladin cards but this deck costs a kidney to craft so I will pass missing 1 legendary and 5 epics and those cards aren't good on other decks so.. maybe if I get big bad wolves or shirvalla I might try it... the archivist seems like a bad idea since it's a bad minion to pull and the deck seems to lack survavility outside of timeout.. there are no board clears..
completly forgot that Oondasta is a card... I will test the beast + mech package and will update the guide.
sry to hear that some of you got mixed results after testing it but I am happy to read that some play similar decks or enjoy my decklist.
i think the base theme of my deck is solid and good enough vs the current meta decks even though the minion setup is not fine tuned yet. will take few days of tesitng to find the best combination of minions vs the right meta.
Batterhead and Big Bad Archmage won me many games but maybe Oondasta or other big minions would have done the same. Batterhead + Lifelink is insane vs aggro/midrange decks which most of the time go wide but if you play many taunt minions + Kangors endless army I think there is no need for Batterhead/Big Bad Archmage.
You still mix a bit to much ^^. Qulxis going in the right direction. I played sea giants and droped them T3 (with coin) ;-). Spellstones, the divine shield potion and dark conviction rotated out. Those made the deck a blast to play. On the other side there is duel and lightforged blessing plus you can use secrets. My version was even pala.
Thoughts on Alarm-o-Bot in this deck? You can tutor it with call to adventure and give it that buff on top of the secrets to help it stick on the board.
Okay i played a lot of games today. The deck is quite strong, i removed holy wrath for that lifestealbuff btw. You farm rogue's like crazy, but you struggle against warrior, the main force atm. I am currently on rank 3 with a standing of 25-15.
It suprised me, how good this deck actually performes.

I think there are only 2 things to argue about the deck, that is what minions to play and if you should go for call to adventure plus early game.
For the general minion setup, i think any 'big' stuff works just fine, the options always have pro's and con's against this and that matchup. For the early minion plan, i tried it as well and i hated it personally. I just want to be able to jam either duel or lense as fast as i can, and not worry about any bad outcome.

Early match plan
Truesilver Champion + Mysterious Blade + Secrets + Time Out / Flash of Light are used to survive until turn 4/5 and Call to Adventure on turn3 can guarantee us a turn4 4/8 Archmage Vagoth in many of our games and even after drawing Archmage Vagoth it is a nice card for drawing a buffed Zilliax.
Midgame/Lategame

I don't know,it seems kinda weak early and that means you'll lose to aggro decks.
It looks fun,but i doubt it's gonna be good, because no early game.
Mybe i'll try it.
Only played one game with it. Felt really good dude. Beat a Theif/Tempo Rogue without breaking a sweat despite not drawing into Prismatic Lens or any of the other major Win Cons.
Drawing Archmage Vargoth with Call to Adventure and then giving him lifesteal worked a treat.
It's good fun to play but I'm not sure how it'll fair against more Aggressive decks such as Murloc Shaman..
4/3/19 RIP Keith Flint. 😔
I tried having fun once. It was awful.

Need to be removed from this game

A ton of fun + it counters bomb warrior pretty well.

I think all big minions are replaceble. Holy wrath is just in there for the memes :D
Great job on this deck! Really funny to play it! I have added Oondasta + a couple of Amani Bears and it works smoothly. Thanks for the idea!
