I just opened High Priest Thekal and I've been playing around with healadin and having a total blast. I'm hoping to make a control shell based around healing with Hakkar + Liam as my win condition. So far I've been playing with Uther, Zola, double Brewmaster but I find that it's a lot of dead cards to run with while Hakkar + Liam only has Liam as a dead card. I really like the heal synergy so I'm not planning on dumping it for either of the current OTK decks that people are running but I'm just wondering if the Hakkar + Liam combo is worth investing in. I have plenty of dust but I'd rather not craft it unless it's actually usable. I understand that it's weak to silence but I'm also contemplating running The Undatakah in case it gets silenced (also have Tirion and Applebaum in deck for extra DRs). That would add another potential dead card but it's something I'm willing to deal with.
Has anyone tried it out? I know there was hype leading up to the expansion but I haven't heard anything since the expansion dropped.
its a way to put your opponent on a timer but i don't think running bounce cards for liam is worth it. playing liam already turns all your 1 drops. i don't know why you'd need to play him more than once.

The bounce cards weren't for Liam. I don't have Liam and Hakkar yet. The bounce cards were to win through the Uther OTK (bounce three knights to your hand then OTK). I want to cut the two brews and go with Liam and Hakkar combo instead for the win while having alternative uses for Zola.
How are you planning on making Prince Liam add value tho? You'd have to draw till you get the bloods multiple times (at least 6 times?) to make Liam add much value by turning them into legendaries. And there's ofc the random aspect of the legendaries too. Imagine going through all that effort, making multiple bloods, dropping Liam only to draw Millhouse or Temporus? Its a cool idea, and definitely at least try pull it off once or twice but doesn't sound like a very viable deck
It rarely works but when it does it's a blast. It is a niche combo that is so slow till it actually does something - that said, Paladin can actually pull this out fairly often. Thing is not dying to combo decks even after Liam.
I run this in Wild. I included a ton of stall for aggro matchups and Brann, Zola and Coldlight Oracle to either burn some cards or just to get to fatigue and all the bloods quicker. It works decently, still have a positive winrate.

The idea isn't to get value out of Liam, it's to remove the bloods so that your opponent starts getting burned while you are fine. If you can get a couple legendaries out of it, great, but it's definitely not necessary.

I'm generally thinking of running it in standard as wild already can just do the Beardo OTK fairly easily while in standard it's a bit lengthier. Have you tried any variations of it in standard? I guess I'm trying to see how well it compares with the current standard OTK deck. Why do you say it rarely works? Do you mean you rarely win with the deck or the combo rarely works?

Sorry not really a Standard player, so can't elaborate much on that. The deck I run works well just as a sustain control deck agaisnt aggro while Hakkar is there just in case I wander into another control deck.
Why it rarely works: most of the time it doesn't matter. Also playing out a 10 mana do nothing is a tempo suicide and can put you hugely behind. I've had a few situations where I couldn't follow with Liam and just died to my own bloods lol.
I guess you could run a version with way more draw or tutors to get it out faster and more reliably and just overwhelm your opponent over time with bloods. As I said, I use it more like insurance against control.
Hey there! I have made a Control Paladin with the combo in the deck, check it out below!
It's a very relaxing deck to play, however it doesn't do too hot in the current meta right now but given time when everything is all settle I'm sure it'll do better.
Glad to know your experiences. I feel like it might be a little different in standard. I’m running against lots of spell hunters and odd mages: decks where they will never run out of steam so a win condition that assures death eventually is important. I find myself often being able to waste away later turns without a care for tempo because the deck has excellent recovery and tempo swings with the spellstone and templars in addition to numerous heal cards.
I may just have to craft it myself and try it out, though I don’t think The Undatakah will be a part of the first iteration.
Ideally, I'm looking for something between these two decks (one is my own theorycraft and the other is a deck that got popular before release so I don't know how well it actually performs) and the OTK DK Paladin on HSReplay. I'm fine with doing the legwork on testing out variations - I personally like having the tempo swings of Zandalari Templar and Lesser Pearl Spellstone - but I'd just like to hear more confirmation that Hakkar + Liam is a viable win condition. Here are the decks:
