*Aggro Replacements*
With the huge amount of removal, weapons, and large minions, this deck can respond to anything you'll see in the current meta.
After the launch of GvG, Warrior finally gained access to the tools it needed to definitively become the strongest class in the game. Many of the "filler" cards played in traditional Warrior (Acolyte of Pain, Armorsmith, etc.) were never really that strong and were instead included for synergy purposes. This version includes cards that help dictate tempo and board control, instead of relying on an extremely reactive playstyle. This deck responds extremely well to aggro (Explosive Sheep, 2x Brawl) but has enough late game minions to go toe to toe with any other control deck. I can't emphasize enough how important it can be when you are able to surprise your opponent. Most people know card for card what to expect at higher ranks and a deck like this can certainly use their knowledge against them.
Strategy
There seems to be a little confusion as to how this deck is played effectively. Although there are quite a few similarities to traditional control warrior decklists, the playstyle for this kind of deck is unique. Rather than try and control the board always, try and pick your spots, using your health as a resource. Like most warriors, there is an incredible amount of armor gain, so you can allow your opponent to overextend with minions without putting yourself in true danger. Your opponent will rarely expect 2x Brawl and often times this alone is enough to win games.
With the addition of 2 Coldlight Oracles, there is potential to mill your opponent as well (especially vs. Handlock and in the mirror match). Even against aggro decks these can be effective to dig deeper for a Brawl or Juggernaut's Mine. The key is to pick your spot and know when to use these. They shouldn't be played randomly like you would an Acolyte.
Notes
The foundation of this deck is traditional control warrior and I wanted to explain some of the inclusions I've made. As any seasoned player will tell you, changing even 6 cards in a deck makes a dramatic difference (that's 20% of the deck!).
-1x Acolyte of Pain, -1x Shield Block, +2x Coldlight Oracle
Acolyte of Pain has little to no presence and is included only for card draw and occasionally to bait out silence. Coldlight Oracle will be useful as immediate draw, with the added benefit of mill potential in certain matchups. It also helps dig deeper for Juggernaut's Mine.
Matchups (more to come, please comment if you want info vs a specific deck)
Aggro: This deck has enough answers to deal with aggro of any kind. These are probably going to be the easiest matchups.
Handlock: 2x Coldlight Oracle really shines in this matchup and will virtually always get value. Again, with the number of answers at your disposal, this deck is designed to respond to and burn out Handlock until Juggernaut's Mine / Grommash finishes them.
Paladin: A recent meta addition is the Quartermaster + Muster for Battle Paladin. It has virtually zero chance of beating this deck lol... Whirlwind+Explosive Sheep, Death's Bite+Explosive Sheep, 2x Brawl, etc. The Paladin deck lacks very little in terms of burst and once the combo has been dealt with, the deck lacks any finishing ability. They'll often draw themselves to fatigue as well.
Priest: The new meta priest seems to be very minion heavy. Priest lacks finishing power and a well placed brawl can be enough to secure a win. Very few players expect a 2nd brawl and usually flood the board again. Warrior has always dealt with individuals threats easily so the huge amount of removal and "AOE" we have at our disposal usually seals this game. Be prepared for these matchups to go to fatigue.
Warrior: The key to this matchup is to be patient. There are too many large threats to deal with to waste cards like Execute and Shield Block on smaller minions. The key to victory is often going to be the 2nd Brawl. Much like other matchups, using your health to bait the opponent into overextending may be necessary. The traditional warrior decklists are extremely reactive and if you're not playing big minions every turn, they will often feel compelled to play their own minion rather than pass. With 2x Shieldblock and 2x Shieldmaiden, there's 20 armor available to you to survive and bounce back.
Nearly 20 revisions, with a massive one at the time of LoE. This decklist should just die a quiet death. Create a new decklist if you're going to rehaul the deck; don't use previous a previous deck's success for people to view your new crap. Everyone should downvote this deck into the ground.
Is there any suitable replacement for Alexstrasza? I know that's asking a lot, but this deck looks like the first Warrior deck I would actually enjoy playing, and I'll have to build up 1600 dust to craft Alexstrasza. (I have almost exactly 1600 right now, but that would have to craft Iron Juggernaut).
How is there "an incredible amount of armor to gain" with this deck? I see 2 armorsmiths and nowt else. Looks like getting steam rolled by combo druid or any other decks with burst damage so a lot.. And then Finley? You would take away the basic armor power as well?? Just seems odd.
Why are there 2 copies of any cards if you are using Reno Jackson?
The Reno Jackson effect will work as long as there aren't 2 copies remaining in the deck. Because of the high likelihood that games will go to fatigue, the card should be held until the effect is guaranteed.
I love the idea of an iron juggernaut combo! but doesn't the combo require, you know, the fucking iron juggernaut?
i died to this comment :D
Is this deck meant to be competitive?
Is this deck still viable post-BRM (so far)? Any chance you could make a video of it in action? Against aggro would be ideal.
Finally an iron juggernaut deck. A question, Why not 2x youthful brewmaster? I find that it combos well with grom too if you have death's bite just to bring down the opponent's health to lethal bomb range.
Not to mention the juggernaut combo, killed a freeze mage with 2x mines that bypassed his ice block
While there are a fair number of battlecry minions in the deck, it's a little tough to count on the Brew+Jugg combo.
So its just a regular control deck with pandas
Lol yeah... if regular means changing 25% of the traditional warrior deck. Thanks for your valuable insight.
Heh, lost 7 games in a row with this deck because no Win Axe in opening hand and all high drops after mulligan. End up at 15hp by turn 4 because aggro. GG RNG.
Do you Juggernaut on turn 6 or wait until you have Brewmaster?
Honestly I find that I get more value from the other battlecry minions most of the time. Juggernaut should usually be played as a body unless circumstances dictate otherwise. It feels extremely greedy to try and force a combo so unless the situation presents itself, play "normally".
Hi,
there's one matchup I'm not sure how to handle: ramp druid, just got destroyed by the early shades of naxx...
TBH this deck was born out of an extreme meta where it was pretty much all out aggro or heavy control. This deck really doesn't handle ramp druid with combo very well so unless you get a good brawl in, these matchups will tend to be a challenge. Use coldlights at strategic times and hope for good draw (Death's Bite + Explosive Sheep, Shield Block, etc.). The key is to employ a bend but don't break strategy, which often feels very risky. Have to be a little greedy to win this one because this deck isn't well equipped to handle Savage+Force.
Great deck! So much fun to play!
Best deck ever and thx for suggestions against ago. That helped a lot
