To celebrate /r CustomHearthstone having reached announced an found winners for 199 weekly competitions, they've teamed up with us from the HearthPwn Fan Creations staff, to make a truly unique cooperative competition.
This time around, you'll be tasked to make two cards that combined satisfy all of the themes below (Each card must satisfy exactly two themes). Both of these cards have to be posted in the same comment on this thread.
Themes for this competition:
Festival: Celebrate with us by designing a card with a festival theme. It can be based off of a party, a fair, or even a concert, we want to see you go wild with how you interpret this.
Double Up: Two hundred weekly design competitions is a lot and so is a effect that doubles, which is what we want you to design. The effect can double stats or even do something twice.
Unexpected Cooperation: To celebrate the sneaky unexpected cooperation between CustomHearthstone and HearthPwn, make a card that MENTIONS Stealth.
Brand New Lands: What better way to celebrate the one Blizzard game, than celebrating another aswell? Make a card that features either of the new races in Battle for Azeroth. Vulpera(Fox People), Kul Tiran Humans, Zandalari Trolls, Sethrak(Snake People) or Tortollans.
You can post on both submission topics, this one and the one on CustomHearthstone, for two different individual chances of advancing. For a link to the CustomHearthstone Topic, you can find it here !
General Competition Rules
These are the rules that remain consistent from competition to competition.
First, these are the rules about Posting:
You are allowed to submit only one entry . An entry normally consists of only one collectible card, plus any necessary additional material or commentary (explained below).
You are allowed to post in this Submission Topic only once , only to submit your one entry.
You may not delete ANY posts you make in this Submission Topic , not even accidental ones you may make over your one allowed, such as by double-posting or by accidentally posting something here that you meant for the Discussion Topic. If you do accidentally post more than once, inform any of the Fan Creation Forum moderators via PM, and we will handle it.
Speaking of the Discussion Topic, that is where any discussion of this competition should go. This thread is for submissions only . If you want to discuss your card or ask questions about the competition rules or process, you can find a link to the Discussion Topic at the top of this thread. Plenty of folks there will be happy to help you out.
Once you have submitted your one entry, you are allowed to make only minor changes to it. Minor changes are things like correcting typos or making balance changes that do not alter the spirit of your entry as determined by we the moderators. If you want to make any changes and have any doubts as to their legality, ask us first.
These are the rules about your Submission:
Accompanying the image of your card, you may offer some minimal additional commentary to explain its design, balance, and/or other qualities. Flavor text is also welcome.
You may not submit any Gold cards or animated cards. (It's just a cheap attention grab tactic that makes it unnecessarily difficult to determine what class your card is for.)
Your entry must be a card of your own creation . We've been doing this for a while, so if you blatantly rip off somebody else's idea, we will know.
Remember that, although HearthCards is awesome, you MUST host your card somewhere other than Hearthcards. Save it and upload it to Imgur , Photobucket , or some other similar site. HearthCards has a limited server space and will purge cards after a few days, and nobody wants your card disappearing part-way through the finals. We understand that there are some HearthCards memberships that will allow you to save your card there for longer (and you should totally get one of those just for general fan creation purposes, by the way), but we don't know who has those memberships and we can't tell from the URLs.
When you post your Imgur link, make sure it's the actual image and not the hosting page! You need to right-click and open the image in a new window/tab first; the link should have an "i" in front of it, "i.imgur.XXXX". HearthPwn won't be able to direct-post your card, otherwise.
Fun and even humorous entries are perfectly allowed, but "troll" entries will be disqualified. If you're worried that your card may be misinterpreted as a troll card, contact a moderator before you submit. Emote-related cards will be considered a troll entry.
We reserve the right to classify cards as "troll" entries as we deem necessary, even if the reasoning is not explicitly stated in the rules.
A Note on Group Submissions: if you team up with other people to submit an entry, you must enclose that information in your submission and none of you may upvote that entry. That would be considered an unfair advantage and we will treat it as vote-manipulation. You are technically voting for yourself, and that is not allowed. Failing to tell us you're in a group is also against the rules, as we'll have no choice but to assume that you withheld the information to ghost-vote your group's submission.
TIP: Though not a rule exactly, we highly recommend that you insert your images using this icon on the bar above the post text editor: . Just click that button and put in the URL of your image. Cards that are uploaded and attached to your post are not disallowed, but in our experience they will not do nearly as well, so this is for your own benefit more than anything.
Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.
Competition Process
Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts NOW, Ends 15:00 UTC the 5th October) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 15:00 UTC the 5th October, Ends 15:00 UTC the 6th October) During this phase the Submissions are locked, but you can still vote!
Finalists will be chosen from the top 5 submissions from r/CustomHearthstone and HearthPwn as well as from moderator favourites for a total of 10 entries.
How do we determine the qualifying finalists from HearthPwn? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
( ab ) / ( c ) = x
Where, a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission. b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received. c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission. x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card , which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun. (Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)
Rewards
Bragging rights are always awesome, but as usual, we do offer a couple of HearthPwn site rewards to competition winners: Their card forever immortalized in our Winners' Gallery ! And a unique Avatar Border & " Card Design Champion " Title, as depicted below, and a special new title for the competition!

Silas is a neutral minion designed to give you a ton of value in a big combo turn. He provides you with powerful and undercosted utility cards whenever you spend mana crystals in return for playing a 5 mana 2/2. The condition is a little trickier than it seems at first because, unlike cards such as Gadgetzan Auctioneer or Lyra the Sunshard, you can't just play a bunch of 0 mana-cost triggers and infinitely chain his effect.
In terms of the competition, Silas satisfies the Festival (Darkmoon Faire) and Double Up (in Darkmoon Despoiler and Darkmoon Tonics) design parameters.
For the flavour, each of the Darkmoon Faire cards represent either an attraction or gameplay element of the Faire in WoW. The condition of spending mana is meant to simulate a player having to buy a ticket.
Zandalari Nightstrider
Rogue | Minion | 4 Mana 4/3
Zandalari Nightstrider is a Rogue analogue of Spellbreaker with mostly pros and some cons. Nightstrider's Stealth can allow you to proactively spend the mana to play it and wait for a good target or just to have a threat which stops your opponent from freely being able to play their taunt or effect based minions. Nightstrider can also potentially hit multiple targets for greater value than a Spellbreaker would allow. However, the effect is both delayed and can't go through Taunt (initially), making it weaker in situations in which you need a quick response to an enemy threat. This allows greater interaction with the Silence effect and hopefully avoids the pitfall of other Silence cards of being kinda unfun to play against.
As note, this would prevent minions that this kills from triggering Deathrattles and damage effects in the same way that Water Elemental Freezes minions that it kills before they're destroyed.
This card meets the conditions of the Unexpected Cooperation (having Stealth) and Brand New Lands (being a Zandalari Troll) parameters.
"Due to recent inflation, the cost of Beetleberries has skyrocketed by more than 500% this past year. It is unclear how the global market will respond."
Tortollan Stargazer is a card that ties together themes from a few cards into a cheap 2-card draw with a mana hike on both. Compared to Arcane Intellect at 3, a 4 cost 2/2 draw 2 is considerably above average; the downside of course being that you could low-roll either Discovery and be stuck with a useless card for the rest of the game. Even the best case of rolling two 10-cost cards isn't
too
game-breaking, as the earliest you could play them would be on turns 7 and 8.
Themes: B (double up) and D (brand new lands)
Card 2: Hide and Seek
"While discouraged, it is not technically against the rules to throw up Flares to uncover hidden opponents."
Hide and Seek is a classic party game, and what better way to play than by giving your teammates temporary Stealth? This card helps fill the spot occupied by [[Conceal]], with a few notable differences. You CAN cast this spell on your hero (giving Valeera the Hollow's
Battlecry
effect), or you can use it with Gadgetzan Auctioneer to draw upwards of five cards a turn.
Themes: A (festival) and C (unexpected cooperation)
Christmas comes early with this absurdly corrupted version of good old Santa, a Hero replacement for Warlock. The idea is to thin out and then thin IN your deck with larger spells and minions. It's a balanced cost for a 5 Mana with no imediate effect, and it grants an interesting side effect: you can have a card draw with no Health impact, AND you keep increasing your deck's size to avoid fatigue. It's always Christmasn when you can bring back that Legendary again and again. It's also useful to mill out your opponent.
The double effect will always shuffle the double cards in your deck so you are not guaranteed to get the copy of the card immediately after a draw (unless, of course, your deck has only one card). The effect does work exponentially, two copies become four, and so on. Also, keep in mind Hearthstone has a limit of 60 cards in a deck - so once that limit is reached, the double effect is limited.
SECOND CARD
- Stealth and Race:
A companion piece to Xris Xringle, this mindly evil Tortollan has a powerful effect that gets balanced by sharing it with your opponent. Of course, you'd wait for the proper moment to play it. It also fits even Warlock very well by itself.
Keep in mind that, costing 4 Mana, this cannot be in your deck when Xris Xringle replaces your Hero, or it's bye bye tortollan.
Zandalari Deathseer is designed as a deathrattle rogue support card. Since the deathrattle triggers on the turn when the minion is killed, both players can take advantage of it. This gives it some interesting dynamics. For instance, to guarantee the value for yourself, you would have to Backstab it before activating your own deathrattle minion (via trading or Necrium Blade , for instance). In certain board states, it can be anti-AOE, since AOE would kill the Zandalari as well as other deathrattle minions that would be on the board, making them trigger twice (this requires proper sequencing, so the Zandalari has to be played first in order for it's deathrattle to activate the next deathrattle). If simply played on a board and the enemy has a deathrattle minion of their own, they can kill your Zandalari before trading off their own deathrattle minion to take advantage of the effect for themselves.
This is a top-down card made to emphasize the flavor of the fire festival. All the cards generated are fire based and from the mage class, and of course, in such a light filled festival, all stealthy minions lose their cover of darkness. In terms of playability, this a more consistent Cabalist's Tome that provides thee different types of answers going from small, wide, to direct removal. Put together, they can also provide some burn damage. However, playing the card is a big tempo loss, so this would not see play in tempo mage or Big Spell Mage, which has enough removal options they already put directly into their deck. The only place I could see this card call home would be exodia and quest type mages. It has advantage over Cabalist's Tome in those decks because the generated cards can be immediately used to respond to board states in different ways, whereas Cabalist is random. Additionally, adding more Fireballs is always a plus for freeze mage type decks that can afford to stall the game and accumulate resources anyway. The removal of stealth is a secondary effect that would rarely be relevant but can help, not unlike Flare .
Based off a character from a Dungeons and Dragons campaign I run, Kit transforms your understated board clear fodder into trading machines. Drop down Kit on a board with a Patient Assassin , Giant Wasp , or if you're feeling particularly wild Lotus Assassin and get that sweet efficient two (or more) for one removal. Finja, the Flying Star and Master of Disguise can also provide some excellent efficiency, and to ensure your Kit survives long enough buff her up with Shadow Sensei.
Slow Dance is a powerful stall tool for priest, comparable to Frost Nova but with some additional interesting applications. To clarify, minions swapped will not gain charge like how minions from Potion of Madness or Shadow Madness do, and the only minions swapped back are the ones who were swapped the first time. In the most general case you can lock down an opponents board for a turn, discouraging them from playing too much on their turn because if their board is too full for their minions to swap back, then they wont! You can also lend minions to your opponent this way, Majordomo Executus , or Northshire Cleric for some fantastic mill shenanigans come to mind, but my personal favorite combo has to be Temporus , locking all minions down until it's too late!
Battlecry: Attack a random enemy. At the start of your next turn, attack a random enemy.
Flavor: "Next Friday night... do it all again!"
---
(Themes 1&2) This guy loves parties so much, he goes again, week after week. This was a fun top-down design I made which is a fun twist on the "attack a random enemy" mechanic because it has pseudo-charge. If anyone has suggestions for better wording on this one, let me know; I think it's pretty good right now though.
Flavor: "Tell me if you've heard this one before!"
---
(Themes 3&4) In WoW, the Tortollans love gathering stories . This was also a top-down that I made around a really bad pun---he is telling a story about a hero who goes to slay a beast.
Flavor text: If you can't see the guests, is it still a party? / "I'm sorry but 'vengeful mage' is not covered by your flood insurance."
Rogue Party is Festival + Unexpected Cooperation, while Daughter of the Sea is Double Up + Brand New Lands (Jaina is a Kul Tiran Human :P). Daughter of the Sea functions like Poison Seeds, except it creates two Water Elementals per minion destroyed. A powerful follow-up to Frost Lich Jaina, the card allows you to downgrade major threats, expand your board out, and/or upgrade any Flame Elementals or other little guys you have on the table.
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3

And hey, if you can't find art,
make it yourself
or use Mircrosoft Paint on someone else's
. Sap is always a good tempo effect with a body on the board. It does have combo, making it a worse sap on a top deck, but it is a minion with taunt. Sometimes, that's good enough.
You'll never take me alive... take him!

and
Double Up.
The idea of this comes from, your minion hiding behind their bodyguards. But when their bodyguards, fall, they are exposed again. Or they swing over their bodyguards. Partners in crime after all. One does the tanking, the other does the shootin'.
Themes 1 and 3, This is a move in WoW that I felt fit with the 'Party' of one side and the 'Sneak' of the other. It's a pretty simple card that allows you to preserve a minion and tuck another one for later. Pogo-Hoppers and Spider fans rejoice.
Themes 2 and 4 bring us the leader of the Bilge Rats since Harleem Sweete has no art. Always a favorite of mine when she gets to be an ally in Freehold and part of a race people are practically begging to throw Subscription money at, Eudora's neat trick gives all the scallywags you have been saving a major boost for late game. 6 6/6 Southsea Captain? 2 4/2 Southsea Deckhand? 2 2/2 Patches!? Pack up your things landlubbers and invest in crabs with Eudora setting sail.

He needs that Secret to mask his strong body odor.
This guy fits the themes
Unexpected Cooperation
&
Brand New Lands
. While a 4/3 for 3 isn't the best statline for that mana cost, gaining Stealth in the appropriate deck makes him a pretty decent card for all four Secret-having classes. Also technically he only mentions Stealth, and doesn't have it from the get-go, which I think is a bit more fun for the
Unexpected Cooperation
aspect of the competition.
Card Two: United in Undeath
"Til death do us part" doesn't sound appropriate for a Forsaken wedding, right?
I love weddings, y'all, and when I stumbled across this art I knew it was perfect for the
Festival
theme. My only "problem" was to find an effect appropriate to that theme. After some consideration I came up with this potentially busted effect, since it combines
Lesser Diamond Spellstone
and
Divine Spirit
while also being rather cheap (but then again Lesser Diamond Spellstone is overcosted to account for it being upgradeable). The Divine Spirit connection obviously allows for this card to then fit the
Double Up
theme.
Arrange a suprize party for your opponent! Use stealth mecanics and return to hand effects to finish the preperations so you could suprize them and then share some party snacks with them!
My username on Reddit is mtmusial, the link to my post there is here.
For Themes 1 and 2:
Don't do blood, kids.
This is an alternative to Hellfire for a more Midrange Warlock that might want to limit the damage they deal and keep a body on the board. The party theme is in the name, and he doubles/reflects the damage dealt to one minion to all minions.
For Themes 3 and 4:
For her, changing specs is as easy as clapping. Twice.
This allows Priests to keep a value engine like Nightscale Matriarch or Ysera on the board without having it be cleared off immediately, and it works as a solid three drop for Priest, which has been missing since Dark Cultist . As for the themes, she's a Zandalari Troll that gives Stealth.
This card basically prevents a minion from attacking. Whenever it attacks a minion, Partyguard attacks that minion instead. This card is quite versatile. It can be used to prevent big enemy minions from attacking, or it can be used to gain psuedo-Windfury if you choose your own minion. It's pretty good for permanently stalling a huge minion out, or if you buff it it'll do the heavy work for two minions. It also can gain pseudo-Charge with minions with Charge like Stonetusk Boar, it can attack up to three times with **Windfury minions. This card has many fun applications.
He'll do deals for anybody, and he only accepts cake for compensation.
This card is more lighthearted than Partyguard. Both the text and the name rhymes, and it's meant for some meme-y decks. Maybe a deck where you bounce a bunch of Stealth minions, or a deck where you use Glinda Crowskin to summon a bunch of Worgen infiltrators and get a big 32/32. It's not meant to fit in any current decks, but maybe it'll inspire some new ones.
This lime-colored thyme loves to rhyme. Times and times has this thyme rhymed. Once in it's prime it rhymed nine times. It climbs till it reaches a size divine. Though it is not sublime how this thyme loves to chime, I'm shocked at the signs this twine has whined.
Old
Greatfather Winter
is sneaking down the chimney to deliver his presents for Winter Veil! He's a jolly old sort who'd never hurt a soul (
he leaves that to the Grumpus
), so, when the time and opportunity comes for him to make his delivery, he instead adds a card to your hand. The Winter's Veil Gift functions exactly like the
Stolen Winter Veil's Gift
from the
Gift Exchange Tavern Brawl
, except the gift was meant for you in the first place, this time. Perhaps with a rebalanced card pool to discover from; in the Brawl it was always limited, but it would need to factor in all the new cards from the Years of the Mammoth and Raven.
Themes:
Festival
,
Unexpected Cooperation
Card Two - Kul Tiran Trickshooter
Flavour Text: "Bullet ricochets off the shovel, back to Number 3, and that's when the roof caved in!"
Played straight, she acts as a weaker but unconditional
Blackwing Corruptor
. Pull her off with the combo, and you get an extra burst, potentially taking out two enemies, or getting a nice bit of chip damage in against the enemy hero. And if your opponent has to use a minion or swing a weapon into her, that means the humble
Kul Tiran Trickshooter
will have gotten off 9 points of non-consecutive damage, great value for a 5 mana card.
This is the Submission Topic. The Discussion Topic is here.

Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.
Competition Process
Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts NOW, Ends 15:00 UTC the 5th October)
During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions.
Where,
a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission.
b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received.
c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission.
x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.

CARD 2:
"Are you going this year? I heard it was lit" - Wild Pyromancer

Ey mon! Drinken be da best part o' any party. Dat...and when de dead come back to life and start beatin' up everyone. Dat's fun...

Inspired by Brand New Lands and Festival. And hey, if you can't find art, make it yourself
or use Mircrosoft Paint on someone else's. Sap is always a good tempo effect with a body on the board. It does have combo, making it a worse sap on a top deck, but it is a minion with taunt. Sometimes, that's good enough. You'll never take me alive... take him!

Inspired by Unexpected Cooperation and Double Up. The idea of this comes from, your minion hiding behind their bodyguards. But when their bodyguards, fall, they are exposed again. Or they swing over their bodyguards. Partners in crime after all. One does the tanking, the other does the shootin'.

Card One: Zandalari Infiltrator
He needs that Secret to mask his strong body odor.
This guy fits the themes Unexpected Cooperation & Brand New Lands . While a 4/3 for 3 isn't the best statline for that mana cost, gaining Stealth in the appropriate deck makes him a pretty decent card for all four Secret-having classes. Also technically he only mentions Stealth, and doesn't have it from the get-go, which I think is a bit more fun for the Unexpected Cooperation aspect of the competition.
Card Two: United in Undeath
"Til death do us part" doesn't sound appropriate for a Forsaken wedding, right?
I love weddings, y'all, and when I stumbled across this art I knew it was perfect for the Festival theme. My only "problem" was to find an effect appropriate to that theme. After some consideration I came up with this potentially busted effect, since it combines Lesser Diamond Spellstone and Divine Spirit while also being rather cheap (but then again Lesser Diamond Spellstone is overcosted to account for it being upgradeable). The Divine Spirit connection obviously allows for this card to then fit the Double Up theme.
Arrange a suprize party for your opponent! Use stealth mecanics and return to hand effects to finish the preperations so you could suprize them and then share some party snacks with them!

Bringing pirates back with the same flavor as Hench-Clan Thug.

Card One - Greatfather Winter
Flavour Text: Naughty heroes get the Grumpus.
Old Greatfather Winter is sneaking down the chimney to deliver his presents for Winter Veil! He's a jolly old sort who'd never hurt a soul (
he leaves that to the Grumpus), so, when the time and opportunity comes for him to make his delivery, he instead adds a card to your hand. The Winter's Veil Gift functions exactly like the Stolen Winter Veil's Gift from the Gift Exchange Tavern Brawl , except the gift was meant for you in the first place, this time. Perhaps with a rebalanced card pool to discover from; in the Brawl it was always limited, but it would need to factor in all the new cards from the Years of the Mammoth and Raven.Themes: Festival , Unexpected Cooperation
Card Two - Kul Tiran Trickshooter
Flavour Text: "Bullet ricochets off the shovel, back to Number 3, and that's when the roof caved in!"
Played straight, she acts as a weaker but unconditional Blackwing Corruptor . Pull her off with the combo, and you get an extra burst, potentially taking out two enemies, or getting a nice bit of chip damage in against the enemy hero. And if your opponent has to use a minion or swing a weapon into her, that means the humble Kul Tiran Trickshooter will have gotten off 9 points of non-consecutive damage, great value for a 5 mana card.
Themes: Brave New Lands, Double Up
For Festival and Double Up :
Party anyone?
For Unexpected Cooperation and Brand New Lands :
"Beware, beware, the daughter of the Sea. Beware." I heard him cry.
