posted a message on We're Designing Textually Equivalent Cards in This Week's Card Design Competition

I'm fairly sure they all choose "Top cards of the weak from CustomHearthstone Reddit" because Reddit is a way bigger platform, and generally recieves a larger amount of upvotes. The card quality is about the same overall, as Reddit receives more cards, but have a tendency to prefer meme cards, over actual cards, where we forbid meme cards.

Several creators that started on Hearthpwn have been dominating the CustomHearthstone thread (myself included, being the top designer of 2018). The reason why it's often the same people who win, is mostly that they have a tendency to make the best cards.

posted a message on Good game emote at end of game = bad manner?

I generally look at it depending on when the "gg" is emoted.

If you do it before you kill your opponent, as if you just drew lethal, i'd consider it BM. If you do it after you've already killed them in that phase out stage, i'd consider it to be decent manners.

But like... Who actually get so frustrated that they will friend request the opponent and tear them down for pressing a botton?

I agree that it's strange that they're not taking action against Baku and Genn, as they're by far the biggest offenders of powerlevel in the game, while still making the game increasingly stale, as most games playing the decks and against the decks feels exceptionally similar.

This is what Kibler has said many times.  Is there some reason to parrot it for the 10,000th time?

Don't get me wrong.  I like Kibler, and often watch his streams and VOD's.  But what you say here is nothing new under the sun.  You are free to agree or disagree with his suggestions for the game.  But the game developers have already responded to him and to the community.

Threads like this are far more stale than Baku/Genn.

I said this long before Kibler made this recent video. I've been complaining that Blizzard have begun including more and more cards that are included in my "Unholy Trinity" of mechanics, that i believe are the current core issues of Hearthstone, with Baku and Genn providing "Infinite Value" in the form that they allow you to get more value out of your Hero Power than your opponent.

Currently what i see is that people always complain about either one of three types of cards, that all belong to different types of archtypes. These being Infinite Value for control decks (Like with Hero cards, Baku/Genn and Jade Idol), Mana Cheating effects for aggro and Midrange decks (Like Mysterious Challenger, Keleseth or Emerald Spellstone) or combos that deal an infinite amount of damage or almost infinite amount for combo decks (like Mecha'thun, Exodia Mage and APM Priest).

You can have extremely powerful tools that aren't complained about to near those degrees, despite them being on the same powerlevel in total, (like Flanking Strike or Defile). I personally believe these mechanics are the most hated, because they show the absolute extremes of those respective archetypes.

I predicted that Baku would be an extremely unhealthy card back before Witchwood was released, and i predicted the same thing for Mecha'thun for these exact reasons.

posted a message on Blizzard should fix the game economy and increase chance to open Legendarys

Increasing the frequency of legendaries diminishes the excitement of opening one, which not only creates fewer "feel good moments" but also makes Blizzard less money, which is not ideal for business strategies.

I personally believe it's more likely that they'll adjust the amount of dust that cards give, with Commons giving 10 Dust and Rares giving 25 Dust, to go accordingly to how Epics and Legendaries currently work, with giving a fourth of the dust that is required to craft them.

Where do they get the art for these cards?

Excluding the art sources that Linkblade mentioned, then Artstation and Wow.Blizzgame are top notch art sources aswell.

Usually what you want for your Hearthstone card is something that is drawn, and not too realistic, while still not being too cartoonish.

And it is ok to use images that are technically not yours? That's what I was worried about when I started to try making some of my own.

Considering it's under fair use, as long as you don't use it for profitable gains, you're in the safe zone. I believe Custom Cards is included as satire, which also includes the art not being the focus of the submission.

It should be noted that Article 13 in Europe might hinder this fair use after it is implemented, but you're in the safe zone for now.

Also, i highly recommend noting who made the art that you're utilizing, as it's a great benefit to the artists that create the artworks :D

You shouldn't use expansion specific keywords outside of the expansion they belong to, so you should make this a Rastakhan card and change its trigger to something else (also inspire sucks).

I think 'after you play a card' will be fine.

I kinda disagree about what you say regarding using specific keywords within the expansion they belong to .Because all cards we make do not belong to any of those sets, for me the watermark we put is just a placeholder

As for Hypnotic Python I recommend you put poisonous , perhaps you just forgot to add it when making the card.

     Seems like an interesting game.

For your card, there is a few problems. First of all, you shouldn't be using numbers, when specifying the amounts of the minion that the card summons. Furthermore, Magnataur Alpha is an Epic TGT card. Generally speaking, cards that summons or creates specified cards, don't generate cards of a higher rarity than themselves. And because the Magnataur is a TGT card, then this spell can't be a Classic card, as Magnataur straight up wouldn't have existed at that time.

This is a Legendary i created as an alternative for one of the Witchwood legendaries.

posted a message on TRIALS AND ERRORS (Class Creation Competition #5) - Phase II [Submission Topic]

    THE GAMBLER

A gambler can be many things, a man who bets money on games, a fisherman that is fishing without bait, or just a simple risktaker. One thing they all have in common, is that they play the odds, and hope the luck turns in their favor. So does the Gambler class.
For this reason the Gambler will include a fair amount of RNG elements. But the Gambler, unlike most other classes, have a tendency to be able to stack their odds in their favor, making the odds just the slighest better to turn in their favor than their opponent's.

    Example Cards

    • Low Roll: Like Priest with its Shadow Words, then the Gambler have rolls. Low roll will help you with dealing with either a singleton minion, which can be useful both in the early game and the lategame.
    • High Roll: On the other end of the spectrum you have High Roll, which is often "destroy your opponents best creature", although it lack the flexibility of choosing whatever you want to kill, which is why it is removal at a premium.
    • Winner's Spoils: As a Gambler, he'll sometime be on the winning side of a gamble, which will result in profits. Coins will be a recurring theme for the Gambler, which they will help generate. This was intentionally made a strong card.
    • Elven Waitress: Usuually you'll see that Gambler spells are in general stronger than Gambler minions, because the class is primairly spell focused. As such, this act as a decent arena card, but as nothing more than that. It was intentionally made a weak card.
    • Full Hand: The Gambler is primarily a value-based class, which this helps with tremendously, but adding a high amount of random cards to your hand, that combined will help you out-value your opponent.

    Remaining Cards

    • Toast for Victory: Another Gambler cycle includes the "Toasts", which have effects that benefit both player's, although they won't have to be symmetrically for both players.
    • Wild Cards: The Gambler can't be a Gambler without a bit of RNG. And this is the only planned "unhealthy" RNG card for the Gambler. It acts as early game removal, alongside as a bit of burst in specific situations.
    • Flip a Coin: The trick to using this card, is to use it in situations where both effects will be useful, or as an emergency card.  The card can't just be held till you have next to no Health like Healing Rain nor used to draw at any point in the game like Arcane Intellect , but it can function as both sort of, if you plan wisely.
    • Background Musician: As you probaly can see at this point, the Gambler is a control class, and will have anti-Combo based effects, to support it. This card currently works a way to mitigate minion attack based combos, and as a way to survive just one turn more.
    • Frustration: Gambler angry. Gambler Smash! A simple aoe for the Gambler, so it stands a chance at winning against tempo decks.

    Previous Phase
