Oh, one thing to note to people, I did check on this. Permanents that are played on the battlefield are still considered cards, so...Khadgar will work with secrets that/ minion with deathrattle that/ minion with a trigger that summons minions...yeah...the more i think about it, the card is really good.
This seems better than what it’s getting credit for. Yes, it’s a combo piece, but so are a lot of cards. The swing this can provide is really something.
Also it’s cheap enough and the effect is flexible enough that it won’t be hard to get value out of it.
Hearthstone team dropped the ball on this one when it comes to having an ability that makes sense with the character and having text that should rival the excitement and power of such an iconic character.
Unless some serious synergy cards are coming this expansion it will be Arena only for the most part.
Why are people so fixated on his 2/2 body ? he is a mage not a warrior or paladin, obviously he will have a weak body.
On the other hand, his effect is super strong. There are many cards in mage that synergies with this card : Janlai, Astromancer, Power of Creation, Splitting image etc.
You can combo it with quite a few cards for cool effects, it also works great with Secrets like Splitting Image or Mirror Entity, but most of these combos are either too expensive or too easy to interrupt, and likely not worth it.
The idea of the card is neat, but I don't think Khadgar will see much play in the end. It's a shame for such an iconic character. And like other people mentioned before, I find the statline really underselling his character.
i actually want to understand why blizzard is pushing this minion mage archtype with arugal and Kadghar. It doesn't fir the mage theme....
Actually I think theme wise it fits mages, warlocks summon demons, while mages open up portals and summon creatures. What I am more sad about is that Khadgar is a 2 mana 2/2 (like old man Toni is 5/7). They could have called this card Toki/Loki/Dalaran Archmage ....
Not going to be good (immediately), its a combo card that doesnt have any immediate combo potential.
Whats your banger with it? the 8 cost card that just summons 4 dudes. Thats not a win condition. Secrets? thats not a win condition. Unexpected results? thats definitely not a win condition.
I vote meta defining because this will bring cards like splitting image, unexpected results, mecharoo, astromancer into play and have its own deck, not because of the power level of this card.
This is also a tremendous help for Jan'alai, although I don't think this will be enough. Jan'alai is dead post rotation imo. 1 damage 2 mana ping is so slow even with the synergy cards in Rastakhan
Im a huge Wow fan and to see Khadgar be 2 mana 2/2 with this effect kinda hurt me (same with Rhonin and Arugal)

Vurnerable to board clears obviously but this is pretty silly with Vex Crow, also this and mirror image on turn 3 protects it behind 4 taunts,
Best use of this card? Trying to fill your opponent’s board with Saronite Taskmaster 0/2 tokens.

Good card in wild. Notice it will work with every deathrattle card that summons another minion.
Where is my twin spell that sumon a minion bliz???

It is, but I have faith in Spirit of the Dragonhawk + Daring Fire-Eater to get me there. Doing that just once is 9 damage.
Exodia mage sorcessor apprentis value!
I just love the look of this card. low-cost legendary are so needed
Could be one of the strongest Cards!
Because:
-super cheap
-Great push potential
-great Combo potential
-great Wildcard
remember how strong Medivh + free from amber was! (Before Deathknights)
It doesn’t fit “your” theme for mage.

I see what you mean. No precedent whatsoever.

"add to your hand" is not the same as "summon."
