Can we just take a minute to think about how OP Flash Heal OTK Priest is going to be? Auchenai, prophet velen and some flash heals (maybe some mind blasts). Hit it all with Thaurissan and BAM OTK. All you need is a card draw engine with pyro + Acolyte of Pain + Circle w/ northshire. It's pretty doable considering patron warrior is insane and revolves around the same idea.
The error some of us is doing right now is analyzing the cards released individually. The "evaluation" you provided might be accurate in the way you see them now, but I think there is potential for new decks based on synergies with some of the new cards. I mean, even Grim Patron is really bad on its own. I think we have to wait before judging how overpowered/bad a card is. In my opinion, after TGT, Dragon Priest and Shadow Priest might become a little more viable. We'll see.
Again these "opinions" are just rough first impressions. Most of these "pros" bitched at how bad GVG and BRM cards were pre-release. I definitely remember Trump, Amaz, and Kibler shitting on Grim Patron, now its a Tier 1 Deck! Also, not every card is meant to be played in constructed. Some cards are more geared for Arena and some are more geared for a specific Boss Battle in the Solo Adventures.
TL; DR -- Just wait for the expansion to release and use your own creativity to make Priest viable. It's always been viable, and some of these new cards are really good for Priest.
Everyone said Priest got the deck deal out of GvG, and yet they fell from a class that was played a lot post-Naxx to a class that is barely played. Now that most of the cards aren't too good, maybe it'll see play :)
I think there's been some awesome cards drop for Priest that give it a way more aggro feel than in previous seasons. Heaps of room for experimentation. Don't be a downer just bc there's nothing that obviously slams directly into an existing archetype and gives you OP advantage - the best thing about this expansion is that it seems to be encouraging entirely new deck constructs.
question, how did you arrive at the numbers when there is no testing of the cards at the moment?
please provide data and evidence to back up your numbers.
You know it's better forget about "data" or "evidence". Those numbers are just wild guesses based on first impression. People judge cards based on how they fit in existing archetypes or the current meta.
One thing an expansion with 132 new cards do is mess with the meta and allow the creation of new archetypes. It takes creative deck building and playtesting.
From impression alone I would give more than 7/10 to flash heal, mostly because Auchenai exists. Spawn of Shadows sounds pretty solid, pressure card that could be 2 dmg to you, 4 to the opponent (or 0 to you if you use that other minion).
Shadowfiend [/card]has vanilla stats for 3 mana and may add a lot of value for your new cards. Either the opponent remove it or you're bound to gain some tempo. [card]Power word: Glory is the kind of situational spell. Pretty good against aggro, certainly, but it might see litle to no play in construct. I mean, how much healing the priest really needs?
Convert is largely underrated, imo. The way I see it is "for 2 more mana I also have this battlecry". Wyrmrest Agent is one of the biggest value 2 mana in the whole game. For real, 2nd turn and you have a 2/4 with taunt, maybe first turn with coin. One hell of a minion for a control deck, hard to remove and poses a big threat to your own minions.
Priest is fine. Will definitely try this guy. Their legendary do sound less sexy than other revealed legends, like Aviana and Varian, but you can't have everything.
Oil Rogue is offended that you think Rogue isn't good enough already
What sense to be 'good enough already' if there are new 134 cards that completely will blow metagame into small pieces?)) Notice some trends: tons of heal and similiar thing like Legendary that take face damage, tons of new taunts (there is only 2 Sap can be in deck), new strong archetypes (even some OP archetypes like new half-control totem Shaman), and even that fact that it will be less Priests in ladder - against Oil-Rogue who had a one of the best match-up with them (and Priests who will dare anyway will have even more heals that it was - so it's hard to say if poor Oil- or some new type of Rogue will be able to cope with all these or not...) .
A lot of Warrior cards in Patron decks are versatile enough to be used by themselves. Taskmaster can ping a 1 drop on turn 2. Frothing can be dropped on 3. It also helps that they have weapons that can 2 for 1 all day long. If you are at a bad spot, you can burn a whirlwind and battle rage and not be set back considerably. Priest OTK cards do not have that versatility. Flash Heal will not get you out of a jam. Velen will be a dead card in your hand if you do not have the combo (if he dies after dropping it, you lose your win condition). You need Soul Priests for any of the heals to work (You can spawn a board of Patrons without Warsong if you must). These instances of flexibility are crucial for how Patron can just react and stall against so many deck types. For Priests, you either have a specific combo in your hand or you don't, and if you don't you lose because you end up wasting your OTK cards to stay alive or in the instances of Mind Blast...nothing.
IMO I actually think Priest and Shaman got some of the best cards in the expansion. I DO also think that players will need to look outside the current decks in the Meta to make them work. The real question, in general, is will this expansion effectively slow down the meta? Or will the new decks that come out of it prove too slow to match the current aggro/more consistent combo decks that currently rule the meta? It will probably take a month or so to really see, but you must admit it should be interesting to find out. I for one would like to see a slower, more strategic Meta, with a larger number of viable decks and more overall variety in the game. HS will grow old and tiresome if this does not happen.
I find that it's really difficult to evaluate Priest cards, especially these ones because they're just such weird cards and don't have clear ways of using them so people brush them off as gimmicks or just crap cards. I agree with justin in that people really need to look beyond the current meta with some of these cards (not just including priest) in that they have potential to become incredibly potent if someone manages to come up with a deck that gives the card the support it needs. Of course, this probably won't happen with lots of these "bad cards" but there's always a possibility. These cards might be bad (the odds are they will be), but they're different enough and that can allow them to perform a specific niche in some deck in the future.
And remember, it really only takes one card to make a class "insane". Look at Oil in GvG. It's just a common, yet it spawned one of the strongest deck archetypes a while back and it pretty much made rogue a thing.
You guys gushing about otk priest are missing the point, your going to have a lot of dead cards with no good card draw engine like miracle rouge or patron warrior. Plus these are all combo cards that are not great on their own which is what priest needs. They need unfair cards so that they can be viable like everyone else, mad scientist is unfair, quick shot is unfair, shielded mini bot is unfair, that 3/4 totem for 2 mana shaman is unfair etc... the ONLY saving grace is the dragon priest deck with that 2 drop, but the meta will have to significantly slow down for you to want to use dragon priest with its lack of taunts. There isn't an unfair joust mechanic for priest like that shaman heal 7 or 14 health, or Tuskar jouster which heals 7 when winning the joust. Finally all you people gushing over this legendary are insane, your going to tailor your entire deck for late game control and as your win condition you want to pray to rng for a good legendary for one turn? Seriously? Putting everything on the line for that? Dat rank 20 mentality.
Just Flash Heal sucks in most cases if compare with Light of Naaru. Baldemaster and Auchenai we don't really need in this deck type. 2 Holyfire? It's even 1is too much I guess... 1 Twilight Whelp can be 'OK 1st drop' but 2 - it the same situation as with 2 Zombies Chew - awkward in most matches. If you wanted just burn 5 health for opp's hero with combo-wombo with Flash Heal? Then it's better take Zombies instead I guess. Dragon Priest - it seems to me must be exactly some kind of tempo-, not a combo- or CTRL- deck! So we need exactly that cards that can give to us some overvalue (like in arena).

no, i have, but keep in mind most of the same ppl also give boom a bad review when first announced.

Confuse ? unplayable ? It can work as a semi Savage roar Since most priest cards have high health low Attack

the 2 drop gets taunt and the 4 drop gets taunt if you hold a dragon.......
Definetely I must try dragon Priest !
There are too many new dragons + Lightbane, Darkabane
looks alright on paper
I would make something like this.

well its just a rough decklist, because we have to see how the meta will look like. how many aggrodecks etc.
Yeah, the tempo approach is correct i think, but Twilight Welp is a great tempocard. Also this deck desperately needs a critical mass of dragons.
Also you never want to leave house without Auchenai/Circle Sweeper.
Shrinkmeister/Cabal is cute, but unreliable. Valens Chose is an option, if you add Dragonkins, though. Chillmaw will kill too much of your own stuff.
What do you think?
