Hi, I'm Ethylbenzene bringing you another class based on A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. As always Fans please enjoy, critics please comment, and any and all suggested feedback is welcome and wanted. Below is the hero, hero power, ten basic cards, six commos, five rares, three epics, and one legendary for set with all explanations, balancing, and flavor in spoilers tags. I appreciate all comments and please let me know which cards are your favorite, which you feel are bland, and which you feel should be re-balanced. Please refrain from any spoilers in the comments. If you haven't seen the previous week's heroes check them out below.
The ninth and last hero is Queen Daenerys Targaryen representing the Targaryens, the exiled but rightful rulers of Westeros. Daenerys' class revolves around two facets: Spell Damage and Dragons. Similar to Stannis, Daenerys also possesses many poweful minions with detrimental downsides. Unlike Stannis she can't simply silence them if they get out of hand.
Hero and Hero Power
Daenerys Targaryen- Dany has many titles and is the undisputed representative of the Targaryen clan truly being the last Dragon. The night she was born, the Targaryens were chased from Westeros by King Robert's brother Stannis. She and her brother Viserys fled from one city to another until she was married to Khal Drogo, who eventually killed her brother. From this moment she stopped being scared Princess Daenerys and started being the Dragon Queen. Shortly after she hatched three dragons, raised an army, and built an empire setting her final sights on the Iron Thrones of Westeros. While she is a powerful and just queen, her youth and irateness often get the best of her and as the series progresses she is becoming a villian more and more.
Fire and Blood- Fire and Blood is the Targaryen motto and represents the two aspects that built the Valyrian empire. This hero power is very similar to the Druid hero power, but instead of raising attack temporarily, Daenerys raises Spell Damage. This Spell Damage can be used to amplify her many spells.
Legendary Card
Drogon- Drogon is Daenerys's largest and most unruly dragon, yet the one that she has the strongest bond with. As a card, he makes the Spell Damage from Daenerys's Hero Power permanent, compounding its effects. This powerful effect is very slow for a 9-mana dragon, so Drogon joins his 9-mana brethren in a slow, but powerful finisher.
Epic Cards
A Song of Ice and Fire- A Song of Ice and Fire is the name of the book series, and also the name of a prophecy concerning three heads of a dragon descended from the Targaryens. It manifests in that if you fulfill this prophecy, therefore have 3 dragons, it is a 6-mana Pyroblast. If you don't, then it is a pretty awful card.
Dragonfyre- Dragonfyre is a spell very similar to a non-RNG Implosion. While the damage is a lot lower, the minions it summons is similar to the Nerubian Egg. It is a 0/4 Dragon egg that upon death summons a 7/6 Dragon(basically an Card Emerald Drake). It is very powerful and scales well with Danerys's Spell Damage. The 4 damage of the Dragon Egg is a lot harder to pop than the Nerubian Egg, making it a difficult spell to use.
Brown Ben Plumm- Ben Pliumm is, by his standards, an old mercenary but not a bold mercenary as there is no such thing. Therefore he will switch sides a lot, but it's expected for a 5-mana 8/8
Rare Cards
Staff of the Dosh Khaleen- The Dosh Khaleen are the Khaleesis of all deceased Khals, and as such Daenerys is their only member that walks freely, spitting on Doth'raki traditions. The Staff of the Dosh Khaleen is the only Targaryen weapon, and it raises Spell Damage by 2 for at least 4 uses, or until the opponent can destroy the weapon. Even though the value of the card is low, it is a more permanent spell damage increase than any other.
Mhysa- Mhysa is the Yunkai'i word for Mother, and what the Freedmen call Daenerys after she breaks their chains. She is touched by this and protects them at disastrous costs. As a card, Mhysa lets you draw 3 cards and remove a threat by gaining 5 attack this turn only.
Bloodrider- Bloodrider takes damage in attack instead of health until its attack is 0. If Bloodrider attacks Loatheb, it wouldn't die but become a 4/1. Then if it attacks another Loatheb, it would die. Note: If Bloodrider's attack is increased by something such as Dire Wolf Alpha, its health will not decrease.
Conquerer's Dragon- Another powerful 9-mana Dragon, if not as powerful as other 9-mana dragons.
Common Cards
Blood Shot- Random minion includes your own so a heavily RNG card.
Dracarys- a 1-mana more Consecration. The reason it is 1-mana more is because of Targaryen's spell power that can make this card obscenely powerful.
Targaryen Taint- This card is at the center of all Targaryen Spell Damage burst decks. The downside is very heavy with 2 copies of it, but playing 1 copy at a time the downside is minimal.
Unsullied Soldier- Good luck getting past this Taunt if you're aggro.
Insane Pyromancer- If you thought Wild Pyromancer was crazy, this card is nuts, especially on turns that you decide to play a lot of spells.
Blood-Pure Fanatic- Like A Song of Ice and Fire, this card yields insane results if you can fulfill the difficult conditions, but is a mediocre card otherwise.
Basic Cards
Quickfyre- Basic card draw an damage that scales with Spell Damage.
Dragonshot- A Fireball by any other name is just as deadly.
Born in Flames- Like quickfyre, this is a basic card draw and damage that scales exponentially with spell damage. WIth Spell damage +2, which is very easy to get as a Targaryen, this is deal 4 damage draw 4 cards for 4 mana.
Wake the Dragon- This is Daenerys's ultimate damage spell. It deals 3 damage to 3 seperate random targets. Each of these 3 strikes is affected by Spell Damage so it triples the effect of spell damage. If there is no enemy minions, this could be an effective finisher.
Diseased Freedmen- A play on what happened to most of the freed slaves that followed Daenerys.
Dragon Hatchling- Dragon Hatchling is the Targaryen 1-drop and a very simple, but useful card that can help the Targaryen player fend off many early game threats.
Ser Jorah Mormont- A Chillwind Yeti with Charge, what could be wrong with this godsend? Nothing, but he'll sell your secrets the the opponent as soon as he is played.
Daario Naharis- Similar to Jorah, very poweful with an adverse effect. Daario has a 1-mana discount, but can essentially only attack every other turn.
Ser Barristan Selmy- Ser Barristan serves as both Daenerys's most trusted defense and offense, giving adjacent minions Taunt and a boosted attack.
Prince Viserys Targaryen- Prince Viserys, similar to his canon appearance, is useless unless dragons are involved. And even then he isn't that great.
So that's the Targaryen class and the final class of the nine families of Westeros. This completes the vanilla a Song of Ice and Fire set with nine heroes and respective hero powers, and over 225 cards. I hope everyone who read it enjoyed and as always please leave comments! Until my next project.
Just stumbled across all of these - great work! I'm a huge GoT fan and these are incredibly cool - Thanks for putting the effort in!
Haha thanks for the support! And I love the series too, it was a lot of fun turning it into cards. Keep an eye out, there should be an expansion when the new book drops (who knows when that will be lol)
Thanks for the support. The art did take a while to find and there may or may not have been a couple instances where I had 2-3 cards left in a set and I based the cards off the art because most of the GoT art is breathtaking.
it will be intresting to play with hearthstone concept but without basic 9 classes and basic cards :)
and way more intresting game than rngstone nowdays.
Thanks for the support! I can't say there won't be power creep with expansions even with different classes, but it would definitely be interesting. If you want to check it out I just started another series based on Harry Potter.
Isn't Dracarys just a strictly worse consecration? Am I missing something?
Technically it is a strictly worse Consecration, but a lot of what the Targaryen class revolves around is easily increasing spell damage so I had to be careful when balancing spell costs. The hero power increases spell damage, there's a 1-drop with spell damage +1 and a spell damage +1 1-mana buff that cycles. Finally, and most dangerously, there's a 3-drop minion that increases its spell damage whenever you cast a spell. So even though on paper it looks like a worse Consecration, the ease of Spell Damage in this class would cause the spell to often deal more than 2 damage.
