I think going the control route is the better option, included Shooting Star to try and deal with possible aggro early game, but it also makes dragons fury worse so not sure what else to do.
im not saying this because i uploaded the deck,i think this deck really has answer to everything you never feel desperate and you have tons of options with it
This is my list with which I've had very minimal losses. I've literally never used the Dragonhawk to win a game. The deck is plain good enough to win before I even have a chance to get her out.
Also, I've found two Blast Waves to be too much. I'm even considering taking the second one out because my hand is nearly always full anyway. And because it's quite hard to actually hit the Overkill with it.
*Photo because I do everything on my phone and I couldn't be bothered creating another deck on here yet*
Interesting card choices. I've been playing around with Odd Mage for a while before Rastakhan was even announced, and this is just basically an updated version of that. It's essentially all the good stuff from Big Spell Mage but in an Odd shell.
I'd like to put silence and weapon removal in there somehow, and maybe even Tinkmaster Overspark as a faux Polymorph.
Daring Fire-Eater is the all-star of the new Odd Mage package. The early game board control is absolutely nuts. Maybe I've been lucky, but it seems fairly consistent to get the T1 Fire Fly, T2 ping, T3 Black Cat, T4 Flame Ele + Daring Fire-Eater + 4 dmg ping, T5 Bonfire.
And i am not sold on the fireeaters. OK since you can´t run low cost spells they are a realy good suplement but i am not shure if needed. If you need early board defence it´s the firefly + ping to get it done.
Currently i am on the two blast wave route but might go for only one. I prefer the Astromancers and hand fillers are welcome. I used witch cauldron. I also liked luna and the Galaxy but you get a hole in your play. If you have the turn great and usually a win if not you have a useless card in your hand and die before you reach 9 or 10 mana.
Which are all early game minions you kind of need to deal with asap (except Gadgetzan/Vilespine, but it's nice to remove these asap before they're combo'd or Shadowstep'd). Not to mention, if you're running Janali the Ragnaros (which if you're not....what are you doing playing Odd Mage...), Daring Fire-Eater saves you a full turn of setup.
i may put daring fire eater into my odd mage... maybe replace some clockwork automatons, or should i use both for maximum cheek? i suppose i should try the spirit of dragonhawk out too... and i'd need to get jan'alai itself for the best outcome.
edit, whoops the spirit of dragonhawk isn't odd. oh well. that would probably be OP.

Clockwork Automaton is too low impact of a 5-drop, considering your other 5-drop (hopefully) is a 5/5 and draws you a card (Bonfire Elemental). Automaton is very likely to have the same effect as Daring Fire-Eater but it's 5x the cost. The other 5-mana 4/4 you're hopefully running (Arcane Tyrant) usually plays for free. If we're running 2x Bonfire, 2x Tyrant, and 2x Dragon's Fury (not including some lists that run at least one copy of Blast Wave), that's SIX 5-drops already.
tl;dr don't run Clockwork Automaton.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
lol@ all these people that absolutely hate this list's guts because it doesn't run FLJ or board wipes. THIS LIST IS MIDRANGE, NOT CONTROL.
It is missing AoE and spot removal because it wants board presence itself. It is trying to flood the board and win fast, as opposed to hoping to draw FLJ on curve and slog through 10-15 minute games.
If you want to play a version with FLJ that causes ladder games to last much longer and people to grieve playing against it in casual then by all means!
My take on the new bonkers Odd Mage cards. Heavily inspired by my Astro Mage brew from Boomsday.
You are an odd mage
I made the experience that it doent´s work without solid boardclears ....
No Frost Lich Jaina ? OMEGALUL Don't tell me that's counterproductive to replace 2 dmg hero power.
Also cheap spells are meh since there's not so many draw engines (they're bad even with Cats). Pocket Galaxy is pointless, u need some big AoE.
And to be honest from my experience Astromancers aren't great (Can u post your initial Boomsday deck?).

So far this deck is - EXTREMELY - good.
I'm playing a secret package in mine. Masked Contender seems too good not to include.
I had no luck playing as odd, but found Jan'alai, the Dragonhawk works just as well in non-odd mage using Daring Fire-Eater and Spirit of the Dragonhawk.

I am running odd mage for a few month now and its close to Kaladin. I don´t run the elemental packet (bonefire + blazecaller). They have great synergy with Jaina and if drawn on curve are strong but after droppig her i usually heal up annyway.
And i am not sold on the fireeaters. OK since you can´t run low cost spells they are a realy good suplement but i am not shure if needed. If you need early board defence it´s the firefly + ping to get it done.

And zola is nuts in my deck. She wins me most control matchups ...
What I like about Daring Fire-Eater in Odd Mage is that it one-shots:
Which are all early game minions you kind of need to deal with asap (except Gadgetzan/Vilespine, but it's nice to remove these asap before they're combo'd or Shadowstep'd). Agree hes definitly good. Also Jaina synergies and maybe just blastwave to kill it :-). Guess i will try it
Do you miss silence? I would propably remove the owl and stonehill for the fireeaters ...

can y'all just stop playing odd mage it's like 60% of my games and Frost Lich Jaina is the least fun card to play against ever.
That's Incredible!
