Reno Shudderwock Deck Guide

This is my laddering deck for wild this season. I noticed via Hsreplay that very few optimized shudderwock shaman decks have popped up for wild. Here I present you a very strong option to try.

CARD BREAKDOWN/SUBSTITUTIONS

Earth Shock :: Cheap silence or ping against hunter. Very important to maintaining control of the flow of the game.

No Substitutions

Lightning Bolt :: The bread and butter early game removal. Use with great care on early game targets. Target things that are unappealing Earth Shock victims.

No Substitutions

Unstable Evolution :: This card provides extreme early game value. Hit two totems turn 4 to often swing the game into your favor. Late game, this provides you a chance to “fish” for an answer to your opponent's threats.

Substitutions :: Evolve

Brrrloc :: Early game control, late game stall. This card gets picked over Glacial Shard due to the elemental tag. Sandbinder NEEDS to hit grumble or murmuring elemental.

No Substitutions

Devolve :: This disrupts paladins more than anything. Board full of divine shielded dudes? No problem, target dummies inbound.

No Substitutions

Murmuring Elemental :: This card is here to help the core Shudderwock Combo. Definitely play it whenever you can get good value with Saronite Chain Gangs, The Mistcaller, and Hagatha. Extra taunts provide extreme value, more stats mean stronger end game, or super strong board clear on turn 10 without overload. Don't be afraid to move outside the standard combo. This card is crucial to winning aggressive games.

No Substitutions

Brann Bronzebeard :: Acts as an early game soft taunt. Either your opponent kills him, or you gain extreme value. Combo turn 7 with Saronite Chain Gang for great board flood. He also effectively acts as a second Murmuring Elemental once hit with Emperor Thaurissan.

Substitutions :: Any jade golem card

Elemental Destruction :: The best board clear you can have. Use this card with great care, as it can prevent you from doing much the next turn. I tend to use it late game after all other AoEs have been used, unless in a pinch.

Substitutions :: Any jade golem card

Far Sight :: Great card draw. Can NOT be replaced. The chance of having an high value card discounted is too good to pass up. Especially if it hits a combo piece.

No Substitutions

Healing Rain :: Bread and Butter healing! Negates almost every aggressive deck's turns 1-3.

Substitution : Vitality Totem

Healing Wave :: The end game heal that nobody sees coming. Hemet makes this card even more potent.

Substitution :: Antique Healbot

Lightning Storm :: Great at keeping early game board control. Warlocks and Paladins will hate you.

Substitution :: Doomsayer

Mana Tide Totem :: Card draw is important to this deck. Card draw without a battlecry is even more valuable. Helps prevent shudderwock from fatiguing you to death.

Substitution :: Bloodmage Thalnos

Zola the Gorgon :: Ok, this card might not be as critical. Youthful Brewmaster achieves nearly the same effect with Shudderwock, but does not combo as smoothly with the other cards in this deck. Zola allows you to reuse battlecries without losing board tempo.

Substitution :: Youthful Brewmaster

Defender of Argus :: Turns totems into taunts and gives Shudderwock a chance to produce a meat shield.

Substitution :: Sunfury Protector

Hex :: Big priest hates this card. Cube lock will cry when you play it. Hit the highest value target you can.

No Substitution

Lifedrinker :: Essential to the standard version of the deck, however C'thun effectively replaces this card in terms of functionality. I still run it as a card that survives Hemet and gives me a second card to enable a lethal Shudderwock OTK Combo.

Substitution :: Crowd Favorite, White Eyes, Elise the Trailblaizer or any other substitution on this list really.

Sandbinder :: This guy will fetch you Grumble, Worldshaker and make this deck come together. If used after playing Hemet, you will always pull Grumble.

No Substitution

Saronite Chain Gang :: Provides invaluable defense. Enables the Shudderwock Combo. Most valuable plays come from this guy. Grumble should try to hit him if possible.

No Substitution

Doppelgangster :: Makes more shudderwocks. Not a great grumble target, unless you only have this guy out.

No Substitution

Volcano :: I use this AoE as spot removal. It's great for taking out Y'shaarj and whatever he drags out. Big Priest hates that. Also, it'll wipe out wide boards without the huge overload Elemental Destruction has.

No Substitution

Emperor Thaurissan :: This is the best cheat card this deck could have ever wanted. One tick on ANY combo piece is almost a guaranteed win.

Substitution :: Fire Plume Harbinger

Grumble, Worldshaker :: The key to infinite Reno, Shudderwock, C'thun, and The Mistcaller. Use as soon as possible. Combos with almost every card in the deck.

No Substitution

Hemet, Jungle Hunter :: Reduces variance of all draw cards GREATLY. If played on curve, this will give you almost every piece of the Shudderwock combo before turn 10.

Substitution :: Witchwood Piper

Reno Jackson :: This is the whole reason this deck is running singles. The healing from Reno is insane on its own, however there's two bounce mechanics in this deck. Coupled with Shudderwock means you have the potential to fully heal yourself through ridiculous amounts of fatigue. Quest priest wishes they had heals like that.

No Substitution

The Mistcaller :: This guy took me by surprise. I initially used the jade package to try to and make very large minions with shudderwock. This proved to clog my hand and prevent me from infinitely playing the Shudderwock. The Mistcaller provides literally the same effect baked into a single battlecry that hits your hand and deck. This buffs C'thun and his battlecry on all Shudderwocks bounced into your hand. Five unbuffed shudderwocks with C'thun deal 30 damage. Four with one mistcaller play deals 30 damage. One less play means faster games, especially with this deck. Time is the most valuable resource! I posted this deck to reddit, and many people wrongly suggested Midnight Drake to replace this guy. In no universe does this substitution work to further the lethal combo of this deck. Bounced Shudderwocks do not retain their attack from this battlecry. Therefor it does not enhance the C'thun damage on Shudderwock. Other people suggested using a C'thun buffer instead. This reduces the overall effectiveness of the rest of the deck. Sandbinder becomes scary after 3 Mistcaller buffs! Who needs the shudderwock OTK combo when everyone in your deck has +4/4 or in my personal best +12/12!

Substitution :: The jade package. If you do not have this card, drop Brann Bronzebeard and Elemental Destruction for any three cards of the jade package. Aya Blackpaw is a good fit, but any three jade battlecries work.

Hagatha the Witch :: Great AoE battlecry that turns your hero power into a late game card generator. Be warned, play excessive spells before using the shudderwock combo. I use this and the next card to wipe excessive shudderwocks off the field so I can infinitely play the combo.

No Substitution

Primordial Drake :: Awesome control taunt. Wrecks the board, and helps clear out boardspace for Shudderwocks!

No Substitution

Shudderwock :: The whole reason this deck exists.

No Substitution

C'Thun :: Great battlecry to disrupt the board. Also acts as an enabler for the one turn kill combo.

Substitution :: Emerald Reaver

How To Play

The general strategy for this deck can be split into three main game plans. Hemet, Jungle Hunter is essential to all of them. He's a great card to hold on to in almost all match ups. He digs you to the minions of the deck. Especially the high value ones.

The Core “Infinite” Shudderwock Combo

Step 1 : Have played Grumble, Worldshaker as well as Saronite Chain Gang or Doppelgangster

Step 2: With Shudderwock and Brann Bronzebeard or Murmuring Elemental in hand play Emperor Thaurissan

Step 3: With as clear a board as possible on your side and as few cards in your hand, play the Shudderwock with either Brann Bronzebeard or Murmuring Elemental. This will give you 2-4 Shudderwocks in hand. End turn.

Step 4: Play 10 Shudderwocks if possible.

Plan A :: The One Turn Kill

Step 1: Have played Grumble, Worldshaker as well as Saronite Chain Gang or Doppelgangster

Step 2: Have played C'Thun or Lifedrinker

Step 3: With Shudderwock and Brann Bronzebeard or Murmuring Elemental in hand play Emperor Thaurissan

Step 4: With as clear a board as possible on your side and as few cards in your hand, play the Shudderwock with either Brann Bronzebeard or Murmuring Elemental. This will give you 2-4 Shudderwocks in hand. End turn.

Step 5: Play 10 Shudderwocks if possible. You win.

Plan B :: Jade Golems Have Nothing On Me

Step 1 : Play The Mistcaller. BONUS POINTS!! Play Murmuring Elemental or Brann Bronzebeard first.

Step 2 : Play Grumble, Worldshaker or Zola the Gorgon targeting The Mistcaller.

Step 3 : Repeat Step 1, then move to Step 4.

Step 4 : Play the Shudderwock (with the core infinite combo outlined above if possible). NOTE :: If you're playing a Jade Golem deck, you have to use the infinite combo with this game plan to guarantee a win.

Step 5 : Proceed to play your beefed up minions. Doppelgangster and Saronite Chain Gang are now insane. Reno Jackson apparent hit the gym and becomes a monster of a comeback card. You will out value your opponent to death. C'thun will add nice burst.

Plan C :: Never, Ever, Ever Die

Step 1 : Have played Grumble, Worldshaker as well as Saronite Chain Gang or Dopplegangster

Step 2 : Have played Reno Jackson. Bonus points for playing Primordial Drake and/or Hagatha the Witch.

Step 6: Repeat Step 5 until you either draw C'Thun or Lifedrinker or your opponent concedes or dies from fatigue/old age.

Bonus Plan D :: Praise Be To Yogg. You're client will crash.

Step 0: Replace C'Thun with Yogg-Saron, Hope's End and play Yogg-Saron, Hope's End.

Step 1 : Have played Grumble, Worldshaker as well as Saronite Chain Gang or Doppelgangster

Step 2 : Have played Reno Jackson. Bonus points for playing Primordial Drake and/or Hagatha the Witch.

Step 6: If Yogg-saron's battlecry has not crashed your client or opponent's client, repeat Step 5 until one of you either dies or concedes.
