We have whittled down ~20 valid submissions to just 8 of the community's favorites. Hello, everyone! This has certainly been an interesting Season - we tried out a new schedule for our Big Competition which had upsides and downsides; a brand new Hearthstone Year came upon us, bringing with it a very lore-driven set and the start of a year long story, as well as quite possibly the best solo content we've seen thus far; we tried out a new method of displaying competitions on the front page, bring users directly to them and cutting out the awkward middleman of a newspost; and throughout it all, the elephant in the room for us mods that we couldn't relay to you until recently, Hearthpwn is shutting down.
It has been excruciating behind the scenes, knowing that the fate of the website was up-in-the-air but unable to give you all any information about it. Perhaps when Innkeeper stopped being supported some of you began to suspect something, or maybe when Rise of Shadows released without a compendium and without us updating our card gallery to have high quality art and golden cards. Maybe it was when Hearthstation appeared, with many of us on staff and completely unable to communicate to you as to why it existed. Even now, I don't know anywhere near all the details, and for all I know I shouldn't be telling you guys even this much, but I'm so tired of having had to run the WCDC and CCC like nothing was wrong when for all I knew we wouldn't even make it to the end.
But we did. We made it, and as much of a clusterfuck as it was behind the scenes, you guys went above and beyond as you always do in both coming up with some amazing themes and coming up with equally amazing cards to fulfill them. As is tradition, for the final time (on this site, anyway) it is time to select an overall winner for the Season.
As per usual, we will also have some mini-competitions running alongside this two-week long poll, to keep up some entertaining content as we wind down. I wish you the best of luck in them - remember, you have about a day to submit and a day to vote on a winner for each, so don't think too hard, just go for it!
This is normally the bit where I'd tell you when the next Season will start, but obviously that won't be the case anymore. Good luck to everyone one final time! You can check out the final poll for each winner's theme by clicking on their card below. Vote for your favourites, and I hope we'll see you all very soon.
Click on each winner to see the final poll they won. Make sure you check carefully which cards are by which person! We had some interesting themes this Season. Some winners may have token cards which will only be visible by visiting their final poll.
Whats the word on these competitions going forward? We doing a few last ones before the site closes? Plans to migrate to a new location for the comps?
We'll have the Overall Winner for Season 9 competition running for two weeks, as is tradition. In addition we'll be having some appropriately themed mini-comps running alongside it as usual.
We might squeeze in a few more competitions before the closing. Depends on how we're feeling, really - obviously we're just as devastated as you all that Hearthpwn is closing, though I won't pretend that we haven't known about it for some time. I don't know how much I'm allowed to say, but I can tell you there was a point where the site was being shutdown tomorrow, to give you some idea of how long this must have been going on. The fact that the CCC and main WCDC comps end then is pure coincidence, though.
As link said, we'll be moving to our new (and independent) site, outof.cards. I don't know when we'll start running proper WCDC competitions there, but it won't be until Hearthpwn officially closes.
You must make a card that generates or demonstrates explicit synergy with Bananasand/or Razorpetals.

Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound should read "At the end of your turn, Recruit a minion from your deck". I understand Y'Shaarj came out before Recruit was a keyword, but it's not hard to just update the card to get with the times, especially since it's a played card in Wild.
Wickerflame Burnbristle came out before lifesteal became a mechanic and its text was changed to lifesteal.
Lifesteal is an evergreen mechanic. Recruit is not.
I'm pretty annoyed with Blizzard's decision here, because it invites people to argue about this again - they don't re-use one-off mechanics outside of expansions they were introduced (except for this one time, sort of).
This is an exceptional case, where they are introducing a new card in an old expansion, one which they have freely admitted did not go through the normal design process. I imagine whatever quality control would normally bring up this issue didn't consult, or perhaps it wasn't considered an issue since they will still rotate out with the Echo keyword.
Either way, I agree with their decision not to re-use keywords normally, it's the better design choice imo.
Good luck, everyone! I'm sure this will be close, everybody made a good class.
There's a minor issue on this post, though. The Archaeologist hero power shown is the upgraded version from Baku and Justicar. This is the normal version:
My apologies, that's fixed now. I really should have noticed that it was a little too good =P
It's finally here! After our longest competition yet, we've arrived at four stellar finalists, each vying to be crowned the winner of our fifth Class Creation Competition. This one featured an extended timetable and more focused challenges, leading competitors towards better class designs.
Still, as much as each of our competitors deserves to win, there can be only one victor - and you can only vote for your absolute favourite, so consider carefully!

If you are searching inconsistencies connected to the immune - there is one that quite literally pissed me - during one of the dungeon runs I had immune 1/1 creature and a shrine with effect that adjacent creatures have taunt... Guess what - taunt was present, but was also completely ignored by the enemy minions...
The enemy can't target Immune minions, so of course they ignored it. Can't attack something you can't target. The same thing happens if you give a Taunt minion Stealth (or vice versa, I suppose).
Immune characters can't be damaged, and can't be targeted by their opponent.
They can still be destroyed by untargeted effects (such as Twisting Nether), randomly targeted destruction (such as Convincing Infiltrator) or destruction effects which 'automatically' target them (such as Vaporize).
They can also still have any other similar AoE effects affect them, so long as it isn't damage. They could be healed by a Circle of Healing, for example.
Well, I'd much rather they nerf Reckless Experimenter than SN1P-SN4P - I'd like my full dust refund on an Epic, thank you! This also future-proofs a little without breaking any of the current combos (as far as I'm aware). Really, making anything cost (0) is super iffy.
If it turns out SN1P-SN4P is still a problem in Wild, we'll get more card nerfs and more potential dust!
I maintain that the premise of the thread - that buffs are a better balancing tool than nerfs - is completely false, but I am intrigued to see Blizzard change their stance on this.
The way they've themed it is interesting - I could see them doing one per expansion, about mid-way, buffing the next expansion in line each time (so Rastakhan would be buffed next time, for example). I think that's a pretty workable way to do it.
