Never can I recall a card that made me FSB for both playing against, and playing with. I was tired of having/playing a great game against a great opponent, only to lose to Sire Denathrius . So I figured I'd play Sire Denathrius in my deck. That lasted a total of 3 games. Winning with Sire Denathrius, is not fun at all. I won 2 of 3 games, but the winning with Sire Denathrius felt gross. I HATED winning in such a way. so I don't even run it, once again.
Back in my day you had to work for your win, clearing taunts before you shadowstepped leeroy. These kids now have everything handed to them with OTKs like denathrius and they never knew how hard it was to deal with a jade Druid or spirit claw shaman.
Honestly i had that with many cards so far. Some cards just dont feel right to play, even if they give me a win. When i feel the card is retarded and broken, i just dont play it, cause its not fun. Would rather deinstall. I can win even without it.
I also don't really like Sire too but that Card gave me some Wins in my Casino Rogue Deck. When you don't get any good rolls on your random discovers i can try to steal the game with him if i draw it early enough. But most of the time getting rekt by Theotar anyway. ^^ A nerf would be decent for both of them..
It is the most boring OTK card because it never feels like you spent a lot of work to get there, all you did was summon minions.
Still hoping he gets nerfed along with Theo in the next balance patch which I hope comes out around mid October.
Not sure if they'll do that or not. They might up Theo by 1 Mana.
I think the most likely candidates for a nerf would be Harpoon (mana decrease to 2 instead of 3) Pet collector to a 4/3 from a 4/4, or 2nd nerf to Wild Spirits (not sure what, I'd probably leave it alone TBH) I think it's likely at least 2 cards are going to get nerfed in Hunter next.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sire got hit as well. I doubt they'd hit both sire and Theo at the same time though.
If I had to guess out of the 2, I'd say Theo up by 1 mana.
Ungrateful younglings. This is nothing. Compared to the horros of ages past. Now you have Mutanus, Theotar and many tools to help you with. Back then we had fewer tools and greater horrors, like Crystal Rogue.
Card would still be good if it just hit minions only honestly. It'd stop it from being an auto-include OTK-in-a-card for minion based decks while still being a very good catchup card. Remember when we laughed at Reno the Relicologist? Then it got released and it turned out to be one of the best cards in the set despite dealing 10 damage to minions and having a deck restriction, and is still seeing play in any wild highlander deck.
10 mana 10/10 lifesteal which clears the opponent's board and usually heals you to full? Nah, too weak, it should be able to oneshot the opponent too. Just for fun.
It’s difficult to completely despise the card because Theotar and Mutanus can counter it, but that is actually even more of a problem. It’s really tough to carve out a 30-card decklist and save two slots for these cards that have a chance to disrupt the opponent’s win con but can also completely whiff, which is why there’s a huge incentive to run both. And then there’s the scenarios where your Denathrius gets snatched by a Theotar, so you play your own Theotar to steal your own Denathrius back just to have your opponent’s Mutanus eat the Denathrius 2 turns later, etc. Those experiences are so devoid of any skill or entertainment to me that it’s worth rotating the card early like Baku and Genn were… Or nerf it so it only hits minions as others have mentioned.
As long as cards like this exist they will have to keep adding hand interaction cards like theotar and mutanus to justify that "you could have a counter".
Hearthstone was always supposed to be a minion combat based game, that's why miracle rogue, force of nature and savage roar, freeze mage etc. were nerfed into oblivion. It was never meant to be a hand interaction game and I remember Ben Brode stating clearly that it wasn't the direction they wanted to be going.
Now the developers have ran out of ideas so they moved in the disruption direction to keep selling packs. That and the massive power creep have ruined wild and made standard a one dimensional game of Denathrius.

I liked the "Back in my day..." statement. I've been playing since closed beta (Oct.2013), yet I totally know what your saying. "Back in the day" (LOL), I didn't mine to losing to an OTK deck like with Grim Patron, but these new OTK's are not just unfun lose to, but they are also unfun to play IMO.

I THINK FOR MYSELF, THEREFORE.... I'M AN ATHEIST !!!
I hear you, it's made me play a lot less just because it sucks so much. Feels like cheating when you have a good back and forth in fighting for board control and then the other guy just slaps down Sire or even good ol Brann+Sire to give you the big finger. Happens way too often.
That card should to be removed imho, I don't think there's a nerf that's good enough and wouldn't destroy it anyways.
It's about time to nerf it for sure. It's been the win condition of almost every slow deck and has definitely overstayed its welcome. I think the game is way more fun when each class actually wins in different ways...
Totally agree. They could buff the initial lifesteal but have it not deal face damage. They could even lower his cost then. It could still be relevant as a life steal board clear, just enough with massive face damage already.
Sad to see that the community has devolved to this. A bunch of crying children that can't stand counter play or having their netdeck strategies torn apart by a card or two. Grow up. Hearthstone is the least interactive game on the market. It's about time they added more cards with disruption effects. I say bring on MORE cards like Mutanus, Denathrius and Theotar. Especially hand disruption. Nothing better than watching your opponent concede because they lost one card.

In theory yes, in practice, you win by the Theotaring your opponents Theotar so you can Theotar their Denathrius. You can still always play mutanus and hope you hit denathrius and not one of the expendable minions that infuses him. However we all know mutanus should have the text changed to “eat your opponent’s lowest cost card, if your opponent plays this, it eats your highest cost card.” The deck you are looking for is Thief Priest, it’s hand disruption as a win condition. It loses 19/20 matches, but the one match it wins, the opponent doesn’t just concede, they uninstall. Denathrius is the opposite of what you are arguing for, it’s just bad design. Payoff for playing minions shouldn’t be lethal damage from hand, otherwise, what’s the point of playing spells?

I cant play that card cuz it feels so... dull.

Respect the Sire, peasant.

Illuminate, Neptulon the Tidehunter, Wildheart Guff , Dew Process , Grey Sage Parrot , The Demon Seed , Objection! , are only a few examples of cards that have been thoughtlessly introduced in standard and ruined wild.
We all shall bow to our Blizzard overlords and play standard with a Denathrius and Theother in our decks. If we don't, then it's our own fault right?
My comments refer mostly to the wild format.
