Long Ago, when naxxramas was new, I made a Spell Damage Warlock. It kicked ass! With all the cheap little damage spells in Warlock and ever since we got Velen's Chosen I've been trying to make a spell damage Priest. The problem I found with Priest is that they simple didn't have a lot of damaging spells without Auchenai Soulpriest. Filling your deck with heals and relying on Auchenai Soulpriest was problematic. Embrace the Shadow alleviated this problem somewhat, but without enough damaging spells and the general low health of Spell Damage minions it just wasn't viable. Enter Street Trickster, great synergy with its high health and Inner Fire. When Street Trickster came out I again tried to construct a Demonologist deck and I found that it almost never got removed thanks to its high health. This Spirit Lash has got me thinking about older Spell Damage minions like Ancient Mage, Archmage, and Frigid Snobold all of which would fit nicely in a Spell Damage Priest. Now if only we had another card with Inner Fire's effect and more Deathrattle synergies. I hope I can test this out again.
Awesome with spell damage, although I already see people entering vicious loops with auchenais and embrace the shadows... for these two things I'm voting Meta-defining.
IMHO, it does too little damage to be viable. I think we need to compare this to Whirlwind, and whirlwind with spell damage isn't exactly fantastic. The heals can help a bit but I think if you wanna combo this with spell dmg you'd have to cast it at least on turn 4 with Bloodmage Thalnos and that's too late for a 2 dmg aoe in a class like priest. I could be wrong though!

2 damage AoE are fucking Consecrate (4 mana) and Holy Nova (5 mana). This is worse than Holy Nova only in the situation of you needing to keep minions alive, and more often than not, that's just not what you really need against aggro decks, but rather to keep yourself alive (the main goal of this card). Also, costing 2 mana you can play it against cards like Muster for Battle, Unleash the hounds, Alley Cat and other cheap 1-health stuff without risking them to get buffed.

Except cons goes paired with equality 90% of the time and holy nova is mainly user with cleric when circle isnt available
So, with thalnos is 4 mana draw a card heal yourself for 2 + (number of minions on board excluding thalnos *2). I wonder: with velen is gonna deal 2 and heal 4 ?
I quote myself because no one seems to consider this, and i think it could be really meaningful. If Prophet Velen work that way, so he deals 2 to each, and then heals 4 for each, it would actually became a good card. Yes, it cost 7, it would be a 9 mana combo or a turn 8 move to do after playing velen turn 7. But 12 LP healing (with only 2 minions on board for the opponent) seems pretty crazy.
1. Arcane Explosion doesn't hit YOUR minions, Spirit Lash heals you. Objectively speaking (as in you also have minions on the board) they have sort of the same value, but Spirit Lash has an extra purpose. 2. This plus Bloodmage Thalnos and 3 opponent minions on the board does 6 damage to enemy minions, heals you for 8 and draws a card for 4 mana. I think that's a lot of value for the mana cost. 3. "before you look at this card, ask yourself: is Arcane Explosion seeing play?" - The same argument was made when Maelstrom Portal came out. Please learn from your mistakes.
Probably will see play as it is akin to maelstrom portal although if its better or worse is to be seen.
Without a doubt worse than Maelstrom Portal. As we've seen with other cards before like Firelands Portal vs Holy Fire, board presence after removal is top-tier. Not to mention, spell damage comes to Shaman much more easily than it does for Priest.
Putting all of that aside, however, I'm super excited for this card because I personally find the damage + heal cards a lot more fun (and controlled), and with the (apparent from current KFT art) focus on Shadowform (YESSS), cards like this will be a premium.
Are you all just ignoring the fact that Priest now has a reliable way to damage its own minions? Mana Geode might actually be a card now. And in Wild, Light of the Naruu/Lightwarden and Holy Champion.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
This card is amazing. Think of all the possibilities this has in both Standard and Wild with spell damage minions like Bloodmage Thalnos and Azure Drake being exceptional cards. Not only is this a decent AoE spell, the lifesteal effect could give you a full heal on a full board with some spell damage, making it an easy 2 mana Reno Jackson without the drawback if you're in that situation. Worst case scenario you only kill a few minions but you still get some nice healing! Best case scenario, you get a full board with a [card-gold]Bloodmage Thalnos[/card] on the board, get 24 points of healing and you draw a card. The dream is real boys.
5/5 - An exceptional card for priest - I'm sure it will see a lot of play in many decks.
1 damage is not THAT great, but with lifesteal it can give some nice value with some spellpower on board (maybe now Bloodmage Thalnos will find its way into Priest decks). Problem is: at the moment spellpower is something that is completly lacking on Standard so maybe this new spell will be used more on Wild, imho.
Arcane Explosion isn't good enough, and I don't feel like this will be extremely useful either in most situation.
Mage has ping. Priest doesn't.
As others have said, this is more comparable to Maelstrom Portal. It's not as good though...which is probably good because Maelstrom is a pretty freaking nuts tempo play.
I imagine this will see play in nearly all priest decks because of how versatile it is and how much class synergy it has.
Cheap, useful spells are always good people. We should be able to recognize this by now.
Can you name any other spell power minion that you could use in Standard? Other than Thalnos you will need more damaging spells to warrant extra spell power cards in your deck. And are you willing to wait for that combo for extended periods of time if you don't draw any one of the cards or will you play them in subpar situations because you can't afford to just stay pat?
The reason why Auchenai + Circle and Pint Sized Potion + Kabal Shadowpriest/SW Horror are played so rarely is that the draw is unreliable and the board condition for it is specific. They are just not worth it. And this combo is even harder to accomplish since there's only 1 Thalnos.
Honestly, if you're playing Standard then Bloodmage Thalnos is the only viable spell damage minion out there. In Wild, you also have Azure Drake Which is a bit more expensive but also gives you some extra card draw. So, in theory, this card is slightly better in Wild than it is in Standard because there are more great cards that can combo with it. Either way, however, if you can get it out on a full board you will get 14 points of healing back to your hero (without spell damage), which is already insanely powerful. So really, this spell doesn't need spell damage for you to get incredible value out of it. Spell damage minions just make it completely broken if you can combo them with this card.

Aggro priest is pretty good in wild, this will make it very strong.

Deal and heal, yeah baby. Good against hunters, druids, warriors.

sweet, they added lifelink, now waiting for trample ;]
I can't fully agree, simply for the fact that the entire rest of a Priest deck differs from a warrior deck.
It is similar, yes, but will likely be used just a smidgeon differently.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
