I've had the game since release, and I come back and play a little bit every so often. I don't have very many cards, i don't really get duplicates when I get packs. I'm sitting on 1300g right now, and would like to make some type of aggro deck for fast matches for faster gold. I'm not picky on class. Would it be in my best interest to just buy basic packs, or should I buy karazhan wings / other booster packs? I don't think I'm familiar enough with the game to benefit from arena entries.
If anyone has any cheap aggro deck suggestions, I'm all ears too. Thanks!
Midrange hunter is potential choice, but it's winrate has dropped alot in current season. if you choose to go for hunter, get Kharazan because of Kindly Grandmother.
You can also try Agroo druid which seems much more consistant at the moment, but be warned board clears = 100% defeat. But if you can get Living mana on the board and buff it up you are most likely going to win.
Pirate warrior still probably the best agroo deck but it does greatly benefit if you have Patches and Leeroy in your deck, but i'm not sure how you are standing with dust and cards.
Zoo Lock is not that bad either. It has potential. And it's really cheap, esspecially for people like you who already have some classic cards.
But the thing is there is a lot of control decks that will easily defeat you like Burn Mage, Taunt Warrior (Easiest deck of all time) and Silence priest so you might struggle if you face a lot of these decks and you probably will.
Well my suggestion is to quit while you're ahead... haHAA just kidding.
If you want to play an aggro deck i suggest making like an aggro druid list or pirate warrior and just cut patches. He is such a strong card but hes normally the only legendary in aggro decks. If you can afford to craft him because he probably increases winrate by about 5% maybe even more. Otherwise you can still win without him. My suggestion is to get good at arena because if you can go infinite in arena (average about 7 wins) you can grind it out to get packs gold and dust for free. Its not an easy task, but if you pick mage or rogue every run its possible. If you are looking to buy packs I would definitly start with the classic ones. These cards will always be in the rotation and you never feed bad about opening/crafting them. Wish you the best if you have any more questions you can add me @ Dreamz#1147 on NA. (:
On my EU account, which I have been playing completely free-to-play, what I've done is dusted most of the cards that are not in the Basic set and used the dust to put together a competitive hunter deck for playing in Ranked. I have basic decks (based on Trump's basic decks, which you can search for here) built for all the other classes so that I can complete quests. I'm still saving up gold to get to the 2nd tier of Karazhan so that I can get Kindly Grandmother, which is an important card to have, but for the time being I've substituted in a couple of other low-cost cards and powered up to Rank 15 in a couple days last month.
Once you have a competitive deck built in this way, you can use it to accumulate gold and dust and build a broader collection faster than you could otherwise.
By the way, it takes about 1400g to get to the second wing of Karazhan where you can get Kindly Grandmother, so if you decide to go for a competitive hunter deck, be sure not to spend that gold on anything else! It's not possible to craft that card until you spend the gold to unlock the 2nd wing.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was avoiding pirate decks because I heard they're useless without patches, but maybe it would be best to build one and save up for patches? I assume I cannot craft kindly grandmother without buying the 2 kara wings, but would it be worth it to get a pair of those over 14 booster packs?
You could certainly go for that pirate deck. I have some experience playing pirate warrior and it can be fun, but the games are short and there's not a lot of complexity to it, plus it tends to be very swingy, from totally dominating your opponent to losing horribly without much in between. Also, without Patches the Pirate and probably Leeroy Jenkins you'll be missing some key elements. (Edit: It also really hurts to only run one copy of those rare cards.) So, I'd probably still recommend building a midrange hunter deck, possibly like this one:
As far as Karazhan vs. the 14 booster packs, if you complete those two wings, you are guaranteed to get all the cards from them, with no duplicates. Most of them are very good cards that you can't get anywhere else, though if you brutally dusted everything except Kindly Grandmother, you would be guaranteed 620 dust from the first wing and 730 dust from the second, for a total of 1350 dust. On average, 14 packs are worth about 1375 dust. So, whether you dust the cards you don't care about or keep them all, Karazhan wings are, in my opinion, at least worth the same as packs (and probably worth more because their cards tend to be better overall.)
The one possible advantage of buying classic packs is that Karazhan cards will eventually rotate out of Standard, while classic cards won't. (You aren't guaranteed to get decent classic cards though, and duplicates you'll probably just dust anyway, so this is possibly less of an advantage than it sounds like.)
I'd feel kinda bad about dusting all those cards that I don't know about, haha. I think I might just bite the bullet and pay for kara and spend my gold on boosters, as that seems the more economical route. I will look into the hunter build as well. Thanks for the advice!
You can also try out my Handbuff/Elemental Paladin :-) It's straightforward and very viable on current meta, especially to bring down the for community most cancerous decks (Q. Rogue, Pirate etc.):

I could build this budget pirate deck for ~600 dust, and add in patches when I can: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/827431-budget-deck-pirate
