You're losing cards for ONE format, and gaining a new meta.
Everyone, calm down. This is only a big deal if you only play Priest and if you're only playing Standard.
Priest has always been about control. Because of this, a meta that is looking entirely dedicated to a control card like C'Thun, with Priest being mostly a control oriented class, this entire expansion is Anduin's playground. But no one wants to admit that.
If anything, the only people that can really complain are Mech players. They only got, what, two new mechs, AND there're 0 support spells for mech, none.
Don't feel so bad, guys, I love Priest as much as the next person, but really, this should be exciting for everyone. Cheer up.
Priests already had enough cards to be a top tier 1 deck so it don't make any sense to give them cards that would make them even more stronger than they already are.
They are only loosing lightbomb and velens chosen. Compare to hunter, mages, warlocks, warriors or paladins
In what world are you living guys? Priest a top tier 1 deck? Even right now being a very competitive class for laddering Control Priest is at best a good tier-2 deck and was Tier 3-4 when I got mine golden. Without Zombie Chow, Deathlord, Sludge Belcher,Lightbomb etc. the body of the deck is simply too damaged to remain good enough to be competitive.
____ About C'thun Priest:
It's your problem if you believe vanilla 2/3, 3/4, etc. to be relevant in the priest context: it's even less powerful than Mech Priest imho. Yehah mech priest exists but is it competitive? As competitive as mech mage?
I have no idea why you're underrating C'Thun Priest so much.
Obviously the vanilla C'Thun minions aren't as strong as other by themselves, but they still give the deck early drops to contest the board that do useful stuff later. The specific support the class got is absolutely fantastic, too. A 4 mana 3/6 is very hard to deal with, especially when you have hero power and PW: Shield. Combine that with the fact that it can make your C'Thun pretty damn big if it sticks around, which it often will, and it has super high value. Darkmender heals a 3rd of your starting HP after very little buffing AND has a massive body. Priest also has tons of heals to survive until late, as well as reliable draw options (Cleric and Acolyte synergy) to dig for C'Thun. You say Priest is bad at playing a midrange style with a finisher, but that has two problems: First, you're disregarding the possibility that the deck can stall long enough with heals, all the new taunts, and vanillas to survive to late game and control. Second, the reason Priest has never been good playing to a big finisher is because the class has never HAD one. C'thun is pretty easy to get big enough to either take out a good chunk of your opponent's board, or straight kill them. And no, the fact that they lost on stream with C'Thun priest is not relevant. It was one game, and there's exactly zero possibility they were playing with an optimized build.
Darkshire Alchemist is WAY better than Darkscale Healer. Alchemist can be a stronger Healbot on an empty board, or keep a big minion alive if you have one. Healer does jack shit on an empty board, and is only useful in the unlikely situation you have tons of damaged minions and 5 mana to use.
I agree that Shaping is pretty good and Shifting Shade is OK. SW: Horror is probably bad, but has a bit more potential than you give it credit for.
Anyway, that's just my two cents (maybe even three, this post is longer than I expected). I could be totally wrong, but I think a lot of people are underestimating the stuff we got here.
I just read C'Thun here and C'Thun there. What are we going to do with our Meta if everyone will play C'Thun, now even in all classes? I really am feared that this expansion is just way too crazy for us >< hopefully there still will be some kind of diversity in ladder
I have serious doubts that you have ever touched the priest class before. As someone who plays the class religiously (hue), I am very happy with this set. Shifting shade and forbidden shapening are so underrated it's not even funny, and forbidden shade is in my eyes the best possible card they could have ever given priest. An always on curve minion that isn't reactionary is huge. Not to mention how grand dark shire alchemist is. And the two C'thun cards pretty much instantly make that deck work since they are both pretty good.

I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
I get peoples claims that "Oh but C'Thun priest (may or may not, we dont know yet) be good)." However, when the class cards are worse than the neutrals that means that priest got boned. Many of the other classes got class cards that can make decks, priest did not. Hence the reason people feel like priest got shafted. Looking at the new priest cards in a vacuum the most valuable one (typically being the one strongest in arena) would be shifting shade or darkshire alchemist. And those are only ok. So hopefully that makes it easier for you to understand why people feel priest got screwed over, cause it basically did.
Herald Volazj is hard to analyze. You definitely get your value's worth if you hit just one card with some sort of effect otherwise it's meh at a 6/6 for 6. I actually think it's a decent card that might actually see some play.
Embrace the Shadow is good for what it's trying to do. It's trying to give priests some sort of combo tool or some way of dealing with the board better (Circle of Healing, etc.) I don't think it's terrible given the right deck. I don't know how good that deck is though.
Forbidden Shaping is a good card. It allows you to have a minion on any turn you'd like. That's pretty good for priests who are usually just board control.
Twilight Darkmender It's a good card if you need to heal yourself. It's kind of like what Reno Jackson does except you have a more consistent deck.
Shifting Shade is good. It's ok against aggro, and it's good against control. Compared to Thoughtsteal which would be terrible against aggro. It's good.
Shadow Word: Horror It might not be good now, but when an aggro zoo deck with tons of small minions comes out you'll be glad you have it.
Power Word: Tentacles seems slightly overcosted compared to Velen's Chosen and other buff cards (like Blessing of Kings). Apart from maybe a combo deck or something this card isn't that great since it doesn't have the snowball effect Velen's has early on. I still think it might see some play. Because health buffs in priest have been notoriously good.
Hooded Acolyte The statline alone makes it good. A 3/6 as a priest on turn 4 that you can heal is insane. Pair that up with its ability then a C'Thun deck is looking great. I expect priests to run C'Thun since it just fits their playstyle perfectly. Priests usually always go to the lategame and this just makes their lategame even better.

Agree with this. Hooded Acolyte and Darkshire Alchemist are both great standalone cards with some combo potential. Forbidden Shaping is also just a good tool to put into the Priest kit. The rest of the cards we got are more niche/combo oriented, or meta dependant, but all have potential to be good... except Power Word: Tentacles... I think that it's just a plain bad card, which is ok.
Oops, my mistake on Darkshire Alchemist, I thought it could only heal your hero like healbot… Anyway it's a Priest Earthen Ring Farseer so there's nothing amazing about that.
That's pretty amazing.
That's why everyone is playing Earthen Ring Farseer in Priest EleGiggle If Priest got your Auchenai Apprentice, I would have found the card awesome. As it is, the card is just OK. This is a Chillwind Yeti (4) + a Flash Heal (1) for 5. But Flash Heal is only played because it costs 1. I personally always have doubts on ideas that are based on a set-up. ————
« I have serious doubts that you have ever touched the priest class before. As someone who plays the class religiously (hue), I am very happy with this set. »
Yeah no indeed i never played priest, i really don't have your absolute knowledge…
Seems like we have some unhappy campers. I disagree with you 100% you just didn't get what you wanted. It was best for what's going on and what needs replacing. C'thun is taking up a LOT of the cards. But Priest is still geared to handle the new cards.
I'm a bit bias but man C'Thun priest is the future of priest they got 2 pretty nice C'Thun cards and C'Thun decks will likely be pretty good. I agree with some opinions like Shadow Word: Horror and Power Word: Tentacles. But hey they got some decent cards if they lose a bunch of Naxx cards and 2 GvG cards I'm fine with that. I never even used those cards anyways and I still did fine.

Funny you should say that because Priest used to run Earthen Rings back in the day! ^^
One of the main benefits this card has over Flash Heal is the fact that it doesn't run the risk of being complete useless garbage in your hand for half the game if you don't draw Auchenai Soulpriest which is great because normally that's a problem Priest has with most of their cards.
That said, A yeti with a Flash Heal strapped to it is pretty good.
Still a shame that the rest of the cards they got are poopy doodoo garbage tho. ;'^(
Don't forget that the meta in standard will be different than we have now. I watched a tournament that was limited to standard format and I saw a lot of farseers. Farseer is a pretty good card, always has been, it has just been outshined for awhile.

Yeah, sure. But it's a big regression to be forced to play Farseer when we were used to play by far more consistent minion imho.
Sad days coming for one of the most skillfull class to play (besides the boring dragón preist), only thing that preist hopes, is that the meta really slow down because the new expansión sucks for this class!

Priest got as many playable cards as all the other classes put together, actually.
