posted a message on Time Increments For Achieving Legend or Rank 1? (Need High Ranks To Answer)

It really depends on your time commitment. A lot of people hit legend in the first week, but it gets easier later in the month, as the top players reach legend and filter out of the lower ranks.Rank 5 is basically the halfway point, so if you want to reach legend, a good goal would be to make it to 5 by the end of week 2.

Huntertaker was the most broken, however Pre-Nerf Patron takes the cake. Its winrate is skewed because it was sooo hard to play, but for those who could pilot it perfectly, it was near unbeatable. Secret Pally also was just as prolific but easier to play than Midrange Shaman.

False. Its winrate of tournaments wasn't so impressive either. It wasn't soooo hard to play, just harder than your usual HS deck. It was the best deck of their time but the 'near unbeatable' is just bullshit.
Tournament lineups back then were completely focused on the Patron matchup. They all had Handlock (the only soft counter to Patron), and Druid and Hybrid Hunter (the only decks with a relatively even matchup against Patron).
On ladder, the best Patron players in the world claimed a win rate above 70%. I've never heard of deck that could be piloted to a winrate like that over a sample size of multiple seasons.

Don't switch decks - shaman is far and away the best class right now. Just swap a couple tech cards. If you are seeing a lot of tempo mages, that bloodlust won't help you. Try swapping that out for a Kobald ( allows you to kill most of their minions with portal). Also, you may consider swapping out a fire elemental for a horserider. If you are really seeing a lot of aggro, you could swap in a healing wave, but that will hurt you in other matchups.

Interesting replies here. Some people are saying that a deck that plays minions on curve is "boring".  Wow. Like screwing around with some ball-numbing control or freeze deck isnt boring?  Yeah, right. :)  If this game became mainly control oriented.... bye bye.

I enjoy decks that make me think. With minion based decks, decision making is typically as simple as "well, it's turn 4, so I'll play the minion that costs 4 mana". Control and combo decks have more different lines of play each turn to consider, and the best play isn't also the most obvious. That is sometimes the case with aggro decks too, but generally speaking, the more minions in a deck, the simpler the decision making.

Dragon priest is completely unnecessary. It's a boring minion based deck, where you win by playing minions on curve. There are just other decks that do that style of play better.

I really hope dragon priest doesn't become competitive in the next expansion. It doesn't add anything new to the game - if you want to play a minion based deck, you can play any of the other 8 classes and have a similar experience. However, if dragon priest is competitive, it would give Blizzard an excuse not to create any good cards for control priest, which has an interesting play style that is completely different than the other classes.

I made this point in a separate thread a couple days ago - Mike Donais was recently interviewed by IGN. Donais is the senior designer in charge of the balance team. He was asked if Kara would help Priest, as it was perceived to be the weakest class. Donais disagreed that there was a problem, and explained that, while Priest was the weakest class, A) there is always going to be a ninth-best class; and, B) the win-rate between the best and worst class has never been closer. Looking at the recent spate of Data Reaper reports, Dragon Priest has a win-rate about 4% behind Dragon Warrior (the best deck) - and seems perfectly viable. Community perception is that Priest is garbage - Tempostorm currently ranks Control Warrior as a good Tier 2 deck, verging on Tier 1. It has the same win-rate as Dragon Priest, which Tempostorm ranks as 4th Tier, and 22nd best deck in Standard. It's perfectly fair to criticize the team for not providing better tools for the weakest class. But the community also needs a reality check - the sky isn't exactly falling. Dragon Priest received a pair of perfectly good cards in Kara - presumably, we have to see what impact they will make for the deck.

Excellent post with actual stats to disprove the "unviability of priest" consensus.
Your post just has one huge flaw: these people won't listen to logic, they will go about their business, thinking they know better than the designers, thinking the world is unfair, thinking they are the best players in the world - it's just a class thing, and so on and so forth.
Dragon priest (aka priest for dummies) is a brainless minion based deck. We should expect the overall winrates for simple decks to be higher than the winrate of more challenging decks (like control warrior). The best metric to evaluate a decks strength is winrate among high legend ranked players. And I've never heard of someone playing dragon priest at high legend in the past few seasons.
Also, dragon priest is so boring. The reason we miss priest is that control priest had a unique and challenging style of play. Improving dragon priest enough to be competitive does not make the game less homogenous. Anyone that wants to play dragon priest should be perfectly happy playing a minion based deck in any of the other 8 classes.

Entomb is just not powerful enough to force blizzard to be careful designing around it. It has nothing to do with blizzards inability to balance the class. Or if it does, it's because some players throw a temper tantrum when priest "steals" their cards, so blizzard makes sure priest never has a top tier deck.

They can't give Priest that many good cards because Entomb makes them able to completly dominate the meta otherwise.

What good is a playable card in an unplayable class?
It isn't. That's my point. Priest is more or less bound to be too good if it gets anything halfway decent because Entomb is way too strong, thus limits design space. It's either top tier or dumpster.
This doesn't make sense. Execute and hex are the best single target removal spells in the game, and blizzard hasn't exactly been overly cautious in balancing warrior and shaman. Entomb is a perfectly balanced card. It's bad against aggro decks and great against control decks.

posted a message on New Legendary Card - Prince Malchezaar

Like I said, it's the worst card in the game vs. aggro/tempo decks. That means it probably won't see any competitive play unless the meta slows down a lot. That is unlikely to happen, but if it does, then it would be a staple in slow control decks that typically go to fatigue in the mirror. Running this one card would guarantee a win in a control warrior mirror if the other guy doesn't have it.

The best-case scenario for this card is that nobody plays it. The worst-case (even if unlikely) is that it ruins control matchups. That is a stupidly designed card.

posted a message on New Legendary Card - Prince Malchezaar

I hate this card so much. It's by far the worst card in the game vs. aggro/tempo decks, but it's the best card in the game in a control mirror.

If the meta continues to be dominated by aggro/tempo decks (seems likely), then this card won't see any play. But if I finally get my wish, and the meta slows down, then this card will be an auto-include in all control decks, since it would be an auto-loss in a control mirror if you aren't running this card.

Basically, this card is guaranteed to dumb down the game. It will either encourage aggro/tempo decks to reign. Or in a control meta, far too many mirror matchups will be decided completely based on how much value each player gets from this one card.

Well, it's a 2 player game, so the average winrate is exactly 50%.

I agree in general that priest is terrible, but we should have no complaints about circle of healing. That is one of priest's best cards. Priest would be a better class if you could play 4 circles.

Op makes a really bold statement.
Because you only need to find 1 card to refute that statement.
    Just 1.

Shifting shade is a good card.

The fact that shifting shade stands out as their best card (and I agree, it does) kind of puts in perspective how bad the rest of the priest cards are in this set. They lost lightbomb, Velens Chosen, and deathlord.....for shifting shade.
