EDIT: A change that I have been experimenting with that is actually quite good, is to replace the Gluttonous Ooze for a Mind Control Tech. It helps a lot vs aggro as well as jade. Also, as the meta is about 75% priest & druid, there are very few weapons being played.
Hi all! This is my current Highlander Priest that I have been piloting for the last week or so. After achieving legend with this deck, I played it for the first 3 days of the current season and was able to get rank 7 with a 90% win rate. To be exact, the numbers were 19 wins out of 21 games.
This is your standard Highlander Priest deck, however, myself and a friend of mine teched in a few cards to help against the current meta. Here are a few changes and some matchups.
Changes :
Elise the Trailblazer : Can be changed for The Black Knight or Harrison Jones. Another choice would possibly be Lyra the Sunshard. All 3 cards do similar things in the sense that they cause a nice swing and can cause you to turn the game if played in the right position.
The Lich King : Can be replaced with Ysera or Medivh, the Guardian. However, I would recommend crafting The Lich King if you don't have him.
Cairne Bloodhoof : Can be replaced with The Black Knight, or even Bone Drake. Cairne is mostly used for getting a nice big creature that takes multiple cards to remove, but also giving a beautiful N'zoth target. Bone Drake is mostly for those who don't wish to craft Cairne for a single deck, which is completely understandable.
N'Zoth, the Corruptor : Can be replaced with a big threat such as Ysera or Prophet Velen. However, N'zoth is one of the reasons this deck works. If you don't have him, I recommend looking at the Highlander Priest listed on Tempo Storm.
One possible change that I might experiment with, is replacing Bloodmage Thalnos & Spirit Lash for Auchenai Soulpriest & Circle of Healing. I believe that this change would be good vs tempo decks, or slower aggro decks such as hunter.
Match ups : (WIP)
- Druid :
Jade : Jade is possibly the easiest matchup for this deck. Mulligan for early cards like Northshire Cleric and Stonehill Defender. Keeping Raza the Chained is also a good idea if you can. Getting his active off asap is very helpful. Skulking Geist is your bread and butter in this matchup. Get it out as soon as possible to ensure he can't cycle jades. Save your clears for when you need them. Don't use a Shadow Word: Death on a 5/5, if you know he can make a 6/6 and a 7/7 next turn. Save Shadowreaper Anduin for when you can get a big clear and swing the game. Kazakus is going to almost always be used for a 10 cost, and look for polymorph and deal 6 damage. This is your backup board clear.
Aggro : Aggro is one of the more difficult matchups, but if you can handle the early game flood, you should win by 7/8 turns. Mulligan for early removal such as Spirit Lash, Shadow Word: Horror, Potion of Madness, Shadow Word: Pain, and possibly Dragonfire Potion if you feel like it fits with your curve. Kazakus is also a fine keep if you can get him out on 4 and look for a 5 cost potion. 4 damage to all is almost always a board clear vs aggro. Use your AOE conservative if you can. If you can take one more rotation of damage to ensure that you can kill more minions, do it. You're playing a control game, not an HP game. If he doesn't have any flood, you win.
I hard mulligan for nova, spirit lash, and potion of madness. I find if I can get that, it helps. Then its heal, heal, heal till you can get some things out there to contest. Greater healing potion is good as well because that negates a couple turns of damage.
I found when I was against quest mage, I tech in an eater of secrets. Then get DK down as fast as possible so I can burst their face. Then I use eater of secrets on the last push to refresh my final time before smacking their face for the kill. Not a great match up, but thats about the best you are going to get. Like you said, no single deck is going to be good vs all types, you need to adjust your deck list and even deck when you are running into a lot of a certain type in a rank range.
Hi!
As weird as it sounds, I actually haven't fought a single quest mage in 50+ games with this deck. However, I do know friends who have. Upon asking them, they said that they firstly put in eater and dirtyrat. Dirtyrat for mctech, and eater for happy ghoul. Secondly, like everyone else has said, put out anduin asap and just pressure face damage. You should win unless they draw the combo very early.
all you need is one dirty rat. and wait for the right moment to mess up there combo. i don't recommend eater of secret since it's only useful against mages and it would be hard to replace 2 cards. but dirty rat could be useful vs any control or aggro deck. also keep stonehill since it might give you another dirty rat. remember don't use dirty rat until the very end of the game and right before they get the quest.
Quest mage now runs at least 1x simulacrum. Unless you are pulling out anton, you still lose the matchup.
I always thought this was a strong deck, but playing it is crazy. I love it because its not an auto play deck, you really need to think out your turns. I want to hit legend for the first time but always feel dirty when I try to play a strictly aggro deck. Currently 9-0 with this deck from rank 14-11. Gonna see if I can push this to Legend, will post proof if I do.
Thanks for the deck man
I'm currently out of town, but I'll be back on Sunday and I'll put it up then :)
I have all the cards except these two.Skulking Geist and Obsidian Statue
Any good replacement recommendations? Was thinking another deathrattle. Maybe Lyra?
Those 2 are quite important, unfortunately. Obsidian statue could probably be replaced with bone drake, and geist for Lyra. I would definitely try and make the cards if you are looking to make this deck. Geist, if drawn at the proper times, almost auto wins vs druid. Statue is just a giant body that is a great n'zoth target.
Priest fan's hahahahahahaah enjoy until anduin gets nerf.Coz ppl wont allow priest to destroy meta like jades did.
He could definitely be replaced. Only reason I enjoy having him in the deck, is that he's basically a second win condition vs other highlanders. Not to mention, if you get a statue off Stonehill/a revive, you basically just win the game off N'zoth.
You can also try to pick up another deathrattle when you play Stonehill Defender
I call it Big Spooky Highlander.
Favourite Highlander I've tried.
Glad to hear that you're doing well with it!
I was thinking about dropping out Lich King, but wasn't sure what for. I was actually thinking about Lyra. Novice seems a bit weak, especially since it messes up your revives with Eternal Servitude & Possibly Kazakus.
I have enough dust for one legendary. Should it be Shadowreaper Anduin or Raza the Chained ? In a more long term way?
Both are basically required if you're looking to make this deck in particular. However, if you're just looking for one in general, I'd go with Anduin. Raza will be rotating out of the meta early next year, whereas Anduin still has 2 years behind his belt. Your call though :)
how the world is so rich for this deck ? am i the only f2p left on earth ?
I am also a f2p and am only missing a few cards on this one
i'm f2p , and i'm only missing cairne and nzoth ... and instead of Bloodmage Thalnos i'm using Tainted Zealot :D
