EDIT: A change that I have been experimenting with that is actually quite good, is to replace the Gluttonous Ooze for a Mind Control Tech. It helps a lot vs aggro as well as jade. Also, as the meta is about 75% priest & druid, there are very few weapons being played.
Hi all! This is my current Highlander Priest that I have been piloting for the last week or so. After achieving legend with this deck, I played it for the first 3 days of the current season and was able to get rank 7 with a 90% win rate. To be exact, the numbers were 19 wins out of 21 games.
This is your standard Highlander Priest deck, however, myself and a friend of mine teched in a few cards to help against the current meta. Here are a few changes and some matchups.
Changes :
Elise the Trailblazer : Can be changed for The Black Knight or Harrison Jones. Another choice would possibly be Lyra the Sunshard. All 3 cards do similar things in the sense that they cause a nice swing and can cause you to turn the game if played in the right position.
The Lich King : Can be replaced with Ysera or Medivh, the Guardian. However, I would recommend crafting The Lich King if you don't have him.
Cairne Bloodhoof : Can be replaced with The Black Knight, or even Bone Drake. Cairne is mostly used for getting a nice big creature that takes multiple cards to remove, but also giving a beautiful N'zoth target. Bone Drake is mostly for those who don't wish to craft Cairne for a single deck, which is completely understandable.
N'Zoth, the Corruptor : Can be replaced with a big threat such as Ysera or Prophet Velen. However, N'zoth is one of the reasons this deck works. If you don't have him, I recommend looking at the Highlander Priest listed on Tempo Storm.
One possible change that I might experiment with, is replacing Bloodmage Thalnos & Spirit Lash for Auchenai Soulpriest & Circle of Healing. I believe that this change would be good vs tempo decks, or slower aggro decks such as hunter.
Match ups : (WIP)
- Druid :
Jade : Jade is possibly the easiest matchup for this deck. Mulligan for early cards like Northshire Cleric and Stonehill Defender. Keeping Raza the Chained is also a good idea if you can. Getting his active off asap is very helpful. Skulking Geist is your bread and butter in this matchup. Get it out as soon as possible to ensure he can't cycle jades. Save your clears for when you need them. Don't use a Shadow Word: Death on a 5/5, if you know he can make a 6/6 and a 7/7 next turn. Save Shadowreaper Anduin for when you can get a big clear and swing the game. Kazakus is going to almost always be used for a 10 cost, and look for polymorph and deal 6 damage. This is your backup board clear.
Aggro : Aggro is one of the more difficult matchups, but if you can handle the early game flood, you should win by 7/8 turns. Mulligan for early removal such as Spirit Lash, Shadow Word: Horror, Potion of Madness, Shadow Word: Pain, and possibly Dragonfire Potion if you feel like it fits with your curve. Kazakus is also a fine keep if you can get him out on 4 and look for a 5 cost potion. 4 damage to all is almost always a board clear vs aggro. Use your AOE conservative if you can. If you can take one more rotation of damage to ensure that you can kill more minions, do it. You're playing a control game, not an HP game. If he doesn't have any flood, you win.
Any replacement for Skulking Geist?
16-5 so far. Very fun deck, thanks for sharing!
The only weakness is pure aggro, I lost to 3 pirate warriors on T5.
Nice deck, it takes some thinking to win vs other priests and druids, but its effective. I was kinda skeptical at the beginning, but it works. I just subbed the Cabal Shadow Priest for a Dirty Rat cuz it is my win condition vs quest mage
Nzoth is used as a second win condition in this deck, and frankly is kinda a key card that defines the deck. To be completely honest, if j were to remove nzoth, I would much rather use the current deck listed on Tempostorm. If you are adamant about running this version, however, you can try lyra, prophet, or ysera.
I'm sorry but this deck is just awful. You clearly do not understand how the deck works.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Would you please enlighten me on how to play my own deck?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Well for starters, I would remove all the terrible extra cards you have put in. -Happy Ghoul, Eternal Servitude, Obsidian Statue, Stonehill, Cairne, Lich King, N'Zoth.
Then I'd add in cards that work well and have synergy within themselves. Running more draw cards would be a great place to start. Then consider adding cards that you combo your hero power with.
If you have built this deck simply for fun, that's great. I'm sure it is quite fun. But it's definitely not good.
You quote 90% win rate with no stats and I'm sure that even if that win rate were real, you are not even passed rank 5.
I just don't enjoy misleading the community into thinking they are playing an amazing deck. Ask anyone who is moderately good at this game and they will set you straight. I'd say I'm a great reference as I have hit #1 legend multiple times. But do your research and ask around for other peoples opinions.
I like your creativity though. Cheers.
Firstly, you want to basically remove every card that even gives this deck its identity haha. At that point, I'd just be reverting back to the standard highlander posted on Tempo Storm. This deck isn't meant to only hit face like other Highlanders. You control the board with your hero power and use the minions to actually develop a board. The other versions of highlander priest include more damage cards because they only play to go face, and not to clear.
Secondly, I can assure you that this deck is good on the current ladder. It absolutely destroys Jade when played properly, and can easily be piloted to legend when played properly. The winrate posted is based upon myself and a friend. Averaged the win/loses of us both together at rank 7->5.
Lastly, the reason I'm currently not above 5, is because I've been trying to experiment with a Fatigue warrior deck, as well as that I've been out of town for the past week.
I'm not trying to bash your creativity or ingenuity. I congratulate you on making your own deck that you enjoy.
All I'm saying is that this deck is not ideal. I could get legend with a non legendary f2p deck. Saying you can get legend with this deck isn't saying much.
The problem with this deck is that you don't have enough cycle. It's the reason why we see the standard Highlander Priest being used by pro players and people who are very skilled. Because naturally with a Highlander deck, you have problems finding cards you need since there are only 1x of each card. Running all your extra big minions and spells are just unnecessary. Way more times than not, you will be in a situation where you are drawing into cards you cannot play or are not ideal. It just defeats the goal of getting Raza and Anduin out and finding more answers.
This list is just miles worse than a Standard Highlander Priest deck.
But again, props for making your own deck and having fun with it.
Anduin is what makes Highlander Priest good...
Is there possibly a card replacement for Priest of the Feast?
I posted the same list 8 days before this one labeled "87% wr" The deck and winrate is no joke though. Best deck in the format at the moment as long as you don't mind long games.
Cancer deck, haven't even been close to winning with it. The early game sucks, and Spirit Lash is a trash card
Pure cancer.
Replacement for cabal shadow priest?
Hey guys, what do you think bout this
-1 Happy ghoul
+1 barnes
IMHO he gives pretty big value, works good with Lich, Cairne, Thalnos and other shit.
There are way too many useless pulls from Barnes. I would not recommend the change.
I put mctech originally because I was facing mostly druid and being able to steal a big jade was fantastic. However, the meta might have shifted a bit, so it could be dropped if you feel the urge. I originally ran ooze in his place, but you could also add dirty rat or eater of secrets. Basically that card slot is my, "tech" slot where I'll put in cards where I see needed.
Posted a few comments back, but I'm out of town right now for a family gathering. I'll be back home later today and finish it up :)
