Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.

I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.

I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and Vicious Syndicate will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the websites, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be websites can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.

If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^

Deck Introduction

I'm genuinely a huge fan of the Renodeck series and for the longest time I've been looking for a way to put my own personal twist to Renolock. Back in the day, I was a huge fan of the burst package that involved Faceless Manipulator, Leeroy Jenkins & Power Overwhelming. However, given the relevant presence of druid and their excessive armor gain, the burst plan fell off. Thanks to the BOOMSDAY project, I was able to bring it back albeit in another form and thus breathing life into the forgotten singleton minion printed in Mean Streets of Gadgetzan Krul the Unshackled. So let's get right into it.

Card Choices and Deck-building Explained

In this section, I will explain some of the card choices I opted for and the reasoning as to why they were included over potential counter-parts.

a) Gnomeferatu: Solid card that works as sort of an RNG anti-combo deck inclusion. Additionally, it works as a potential hard counter to kingsbane rogue in the lategame since when their weapon goes into the deck you can Brann Bronzebeard -> Gnomeferatu -> Zola the Gorgon -> Gnomeferatu.

b) Demonic Project: Druid is still very much the class to beat so additional anti-combo tech is extremely warranted. Further any minion transformed into a demon can be pulled by Krul the Unshackled and or brought back by the Hero Card.

c) Corrupting Mist: Is another solid boardclear for warlock which has seen a lot of success in wild legend so the stats are there to back up its inclusion in the list.

d) Deathlord: Perhaps it's a bit too slow to be anti-combo tech at the present time. However, it's still a solid anti-aggro tool.

(At the present time, only a few cards have been listed but I will include more if questions pop-up within the comments section regarding substitutions and why other cards were included.)

The OTK Combo Explained

A lot of combo decks live or die by their combo and therein lies their fatal weakness. However, this is not one of those decks. The combo is an option, just an extra tool that will allow you to win out of nowhere. This versatility is accomplished but every single Combo piece can function as a regular card. This will be explained further below.

The combo is as follows:

Krul the Unshackled --- (pulls) ---> Mal'Ganis & Doomguard ---> Power Overwhelming on Doomguard --->  Bloodbloom into Ectomancy ---> Soulfire face

Doomguard (5D) + Power Overwhelming (4D) + Mal'Ganis Aura (2D) x2 (because of Ectomancy)

So you will end up with 2x 13/15 Doomguard for 26 damage + an additional 4 from Soulfire for a maximum for 30 damage.

The full combo requires a lot of mana so Emperor Thaurissan ticks are required to pull it off.  However, the positive matter is that only 4 combo pieces are essential, out of which only 3 need to be discounted. So discounting any 3 of the following will allow you to complete the full combo:

Krul the Unshackled, Soulfire, Power Overwhelming, Bloodbloom.

As stated above, you do not need the full combo or even the combo at all to win. Adapt to your opponent and the game. You can burst your opponent for less or just generate additional value with Ectomancy duplicating your most powerful demons. Every single card has positive applications outside of the OTK, which allows this deck to actually survive and not be clunky.

Lastly, please Remember that Ectomancy triggers based off of play order. When it comes to Krul the Unshackled and his battlecry, play order is determined by the positioning of the minions in your hand. So if you have additional demons as long as they are to the right of your combo demons in your hand then Ectomancy should not duplicate them.

Anti-Synergy

Voidcaller is a great card in the deck. However, it's deathrattle can be rather anti-synergistic with the OTK combo. However, I still chose to include it because it allows us to win other match-ups by highrolling the deathrattle effect.

However, in the eventuality that you want to more or less dedicate yourself to the combo, here are a number of other alternative solutions you may include that work extremely well in the deck: Mountain Giant, Twilight Drake, Shroom Brewer & Spellbreaker.

It might be in the near future that I make one of these changes myself. However, feel free to choose the appropriate card for your metagame and preferred play style.

Other Gunnolf Decks

If you like BOOSMDAY in general as an expansion, then make sure to check out my other deck's below. They may be slightly less innovative and way more competitive than the list above but they still promise to be a hell of a lot of fun and help you climb the ladder.

Author's Notes

It was a nice trip down memory lane with theorycrafting this deck. I am not as experienced with warlock as other classes so I might not as intune with the deck as I would like to be but it does require some practice to pilot correctly. Make sure not to give up to soon and to check out the guide above for suggestions on the small details governing the deck.

I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)

Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
