I did not even think about that...
People thought this was a joke card, Turned out to be one of the better cards out there, In the right deck it can draw 2 - 3 cards and generate a ton of value! Shows you how crazy the old Ancient of Lore was.
I agree. Based on reading the comments below, this card is extremely underrated and will likely be the new Dr. 7 for certain decks. Compare this with the old Ancient of Lore. 7 mana 5/5 draw 2 or heal 5. The card was primarily used for draw and was a class card, so the heal isn't much of a factor. The Curator is a neutral card 7 mana 4/6 with taunt and draw up to 3. The body and draw is stronger making this card insane. N'zoth Paladin just got a little stronger-- the deck can naturally run cards such as Chillmaw, Murloc Knight and Stampeding Kodo. If you can draw at least 2 The Curator is good; if you can draw 3 the card brings great value. I think the most important part of the card is to not build around it, but try to put it in decks that it naturally fits in-- even if the best it can do is draw 2, which is still good. The draw can also be used strategically to force out your win condition in combo decks. For example, in a Malygos OTK deck, this card can act like a "draw Malygos" making the deck more consistent. Blizzard did a good job making this card.
Except that the old Ancient of Lore was used primarily to draw into the Savage Roar combo. The Curator is still an undecided card, give it time and we'll see if it works out or not. At least the Bran Combo is disgusting.
Looking like it's found a home in Dragon Warrior recently. It's great for the same reason Deathwing is good in Dragon Warrior; the deck runs out of cards in the later turns and this refills your hand by putting pulling your left over dragons such as Azure Drake and beasts like Fierce Monkey-- also, it'll draw your Sir Finley Mrrgglton if you didn't get it in your opening hand.
This card's value is a lot better than I thought. It works in combo oriented decks such as Murloc Paladin, value decks such as N'Zoth Paladin, and tempo decks such as Dragon Warrior. Looking at The Curator body it's a 4/6 taunt. The body itself is worth at least 4.5 mana. I'd even push to say it's worth 5 mana when comparing it to Druid of the Claw taunt form. Drawing a card is worth about 1.5 mana; estimating draw cost from Loot Hoarder and Arcane Intellect. Therefore, if The Curator draws 1 card, it gives you 6 mana worth of value, 2 cards 7.5 mana, and 3 cards 9 mana. Focusing on tempo decks that lack draw is an interesting concept because you have something I'll refer to as "effective mana value." For example, let's say The Curator will only draw 1 card 10% of the time; this means you're paying 7 mana for 6 mana, which makes the card's value poor. However, in these tempo oriented decks that run out of steam, where your next turn would be, "pray to top-deck Ragnaros the Firelord or top-deck a low-value creature and Hero Power." In the second instance, you're effectively wasting X-amount of mana for only being capable of playing one card. The Curator increases that longevity, so in that instance where you're only able to play 1 card, you can now play 2 cards gaining you "effective mana." So even worst-case scenario, if The Curator only draws you 1 card, you'll still see good value in tempo based decks that run out of steam.
Massively underrated.
In my spell damage shaman, it draws my:
Malygos or azure Drake,
Jeweled scarab (which is great for shaman, so many 3-cost class cards)
In my ramp druid it draws:
Sir Finley
Mounted raptor, armored warehouse
Alextrasza, Chromaggus
Hahaha, be careful; if Armored Warehouse wins the joust, it magically gets wheels and tries to charge at you and run you over.
Thanks to this card now I can play my "Anyfin Murloc/Dragon" Paladin deck. :P
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't this card terrible? Not only is it terrible stats for 7 mana but draws you 3 cards, which is awful for control decks since you got yourself 3 turns closer to fatigue. Not only that but it requires you to rebuild your deck into some jank that might not work.
7 mana 4/6 taunt MECH in a beast deck that wants to dominate the board most of the game?
The Curator is to Malygos pretty much what Gordon is to Batman:
Forbidden Shaping stealth nerf
More like REcombobulator, Unstable Portal, Evolve, Mulch, Confestor Palatress and Prince Malchezaar nerf since Forbidden shaping is probably used on 10 mana
Forbidden Shaping is used at 8 mana 90% of the time.
The worst outcome is The Boogeymonster.
You can actually use this card as a draw engine. Think about it. Put in Coldlight Oracle, Azure Drake, Jeweled Scarab and Tomb Spider, and what looks like a meh legendary actually becomes insane to deal with.
I love the animation effect when this card is played. :D
it draws you 3 cards that are minions that self alone i pretty good
Compare it to Sprint. Sprint is draw 4 cards 7 mana. So if you have the right deck it's 1 less card draw and a 4/6 taunt. Well worth.
On top of that you can actually kind of pick your card draw, which in some situations is added value if you build your deck in such a way. 1 Card draw is usually worth what 1-2 mana? so for 1.5 mana you get a 4/6 taunt. If you draw 2 it's 3 mana for 4/6 taunt, 1 4.5 4/6 taunt.
Basically if you draw even one card you have a better than average mana efficiency.
When i saw it for the first time i thought that this is a pretty shitty card. BUT now iam playing it in paladin and mill rogue and boy...this card is typical example of something what looks bad, but is actually pretty damn good.
