Could everyone PLEASE stop posting pictures of a card's perfect counter under EVERY new card released, just to fish for upvotes?
And even if a Mage happens to have Flamestrike after you play Call of the Wild, you've still won the trade. Why? Because the Mage just used his most important AoE clear to get rid of a single card, and you still get a 5 damage charge no matter what.
twitchy raises good points about how Flamestrike is actually a loss of tempo to CotW. CotW always 2's for 1 in card value, and it also out tempo's flame strike (a hunter can take the board and put significant threats down on the same turn, same card). Whereas Flamestrike only removes stuff. So imagine this scenario:
For example, say a mage has some decent drop on the board, like Ethereal Conjurur or just anything with 5 HP. CotW is played on T8 and removes that minione and then places 2 minions for hunter. Mage plays Flamestrike, now both board are empty. Now it's the Hunter's turn, see how the hunter both got ahead in tempo (the mage no longer has board anymore at the end of their turn, and now the hunter can play minions at the start of their own turn) and value (this card easily 2's for 1's anything).
The other problem is that Savannah Highmane is likely to be played at some point too. So it creates a similar situation that made Secret paladin too strong: Hunter may be able to curve into Savannah HIghmane, CotW + some other OP 7/6/5 drop. Even Control Warrior's removals may not have much of a chance against that. If you thought Mysterious Challenger -> Dr Boom -> Tirion was tough, I think mid ranger hunter may be the new mid-range king.
Anyway it's too difficult to call the meta now, but I'm sure this is an auto include for midrange hunter.
The flamestrike 1 for 1's Misha and Leokk. But it doesn't do anything to Huffer, which is 5/2 charge). The 5 damage is huge (worth 4 mana) and can remove a threat from mage's side. That is both a loss in tempo and card advantage. Remember, this is like a Fire Elemental on steroids. It produces a huge tempo swing.
so true, man. this used to be called 'dies to terror mentality' back when mtg was cool.
I like this card. I hope that there will be more cards that will push Hunter toward a class that supports control type decks
This is most certainly my favorite card in the set. I've always wanted a value based Beast Hunter, and here I have been blessed with something that, as Kripp would say, seems preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetty good.
No 3 Huffers, bad Card SMOrc
From all the card we see till today, this is one my favourites along Infest and Ancient Shieldbearer
Such a swing card. Not only do you get to deal 5 damage to something of your choice but get a 5/4 and a 2/4 left over. With that you can deal with a sheildmasta, dark iron dwarf and a knife juggler with a remaining 2/1 (in theory). Their 10 mana nullified by 8- just insane. So happy with this card and it's going directly into my control hunter as soon as it comes out.
5 DAMAGE TO FACE GOOD CARD
Seems like a really powerful card - this is almost as difficult to deal with as Dr. 7. Short of a flamestrike, bladeflurry, or one of a small number of other spells, you have to have quite a lot on board to adequately deal with this, and if you can't take out both Misha and Huffer, you're in for a world of hurt.
Force of Nature + Savage Roar = 14 damage so i dont see whats wrong with it
That's 10 mana in 2 cards for 5 targeted damage + 3 random damage, in what world is this (easy 8 damage)?
Throw in Living Roots and its 16 damage for the same 10 mana.
If you told me there was a new hunter card that was 8 mana - deal 5, I'd tell you it sucked. So...
8 Deal 5 Damage
Summon a 4/4 with taunt a 4/2 and a 2/4 that gives your beasts 1 Attack
