Zukuu posted a message on New Card - Devilsaur EggPosted in: Card DiscussionSadly a much worse Nerubian Egg. It's still good, but not nearly as useful. It dies to less trades / board clears, and 3 mana vs 2 mana makes all the difference between playing something extra and making a commitment. It's basically 50% more expensive for a mere +1/+1. On the plus side, there are way more things that deal 4 damage than 5. Still, while it might see some play, I don't think it will see as much play as Nerubian Egg did.

Asylum_Rhapsody posted a message on Weekly Card Design Competition 5.13 - Submission TopicPosted in: Fan CreationsNothing to see here but a tiny, innocent little Poison Dart Frog.
The new definition of Poisonous is "Destroy any minion damaged by this card" and, as confirmed on Twitter, this does apply to all damage, not just attack damage. Heck, if you give Wild Pyromancer Poisonous, it becomes a board clear!
So, this little friend is basically a neutral Assassinate (if a little worse because it won't kill Divine Shield minions) attached to a Pit Snake that won't die to mere ping. Quite formidable for an amphibian!
Here's the rule clarification tweet I'm referencing, just fyi: -

Before we shit all over this card, 2 health is a pretty important jump up from 1 health. It doesn't get pinged, so it's more likely to contribute 2 damage somewhere. It's not likely to see play, especially not over Earthen Ring Farseer or even the new Friendly Bartender, but that 1 extra mana for 1 health means you're probably actually using that 2 attack once.
For the arena, cheap healing effects on passable bodies is actually quite alright. It can mean the difference between a Chillwind Yeti killing 2 minions or 3. It can mean surviving just one more turn in close fight. It still kills many 2-drops and doesn't die to pings before it can attack. It looks underwhelming, but I think this has potential for high value.

We all know now that Enchanted Raven into Mark of Y'Shaarj was pretty strong, but unreliable. This now only requires 1 specific card and ANY 2 mana beast, which hunters pack a lot of. Sure, it doesn't draw an extra card, but this requires so much less luck. Later in the game, it'll probably feel like any other buff card, but at least there would be strong targets for it in Rat Pack and Dispatch Kodo.

Always worth considering 0 or 1 mana spells as valuable in the right decks, but this is a pretty awkward effect for decks that abuse low cost spells. Certainly valuable alongside Flamewaker or Mana Wyrm to protect them from an opponent's minion, but there are certainly better spells out there for that. You probably wouldn't run this just for the new Cryomancer either, but a turn 5 7/7 is still a consideration.

Against an empty board, this does a whopping 9 damage for 7 mana. That's almost a Pyroblast! With 1 spell damage (say, 2 mana), it'd be 12 damage. Pretty good value as a burn spell, but probably not reliable as removal.

I'll be interested in coming up with weird OTKs with Auctionmaster Beardo. Certainly not the strongest legendary in the set, but there's some funny combo potential with him, especially alongside Raza the Chained.

It's interesting to see neutral minions intended for healing minions expanded on (beyond the AoE Darkscale Healer) but seems weak compared to existing options. Earthen Ring Farseer is generally about as much healing as any minion needs, can heal your hero, is still a respectable body, and is cheaper. In decks that run bigger minions, there's very often another source of healing in Moonglade Portal, Forbidden Healing/Lay on Hands, or Circle of Healing/Lesser Heal/Heal. The value is phenomenal on a heavily damaged dragon or giant, but how often do you see those? I almost feel like this is here more for arena, where it increases the value of your expensive picks and is otherwise a defensive stat-line.

We've also seen Clockwork Giant punish big hand sizes, but that was never a strong tech choice. Clockwork Giant and Goblin Sapper even had difficulty fitting in mill decks. At least, this is more likely to get value in mill decks than those two, since 6 cards is a pretty easy threshold with Naturalize or Coldlight Oracle and combo cards. That said, minions in mill decks don't tend to do as much since there's only a handful of targets for your opponent's removal...

Is Malygos a boring legendary because he does Spell Damage +5 instead of Spell Damage +1 like every other minion in his gimmick? I think there's real value to having a massive increase in one card instead of multiple little increases. It can be a huge source of damage on a charge minion like Grommash Hellscream or King Krush. It can also fit in a deck that isn't reliant on the Grimy Goons archetype since it only uses 1 card for a big +5/+5 instead of committing multiple cards in a deck. I think this card is more flexible than his underlings, and we'll probably see him in decks beyond the goons archetypes.

Something magical happens if we follow the stat line trend established by current windfury minions.
Grotesque Dragonhawk (7 mana 5/5) --> Windfury Harpy (6 mana 4/5) --> Grook-Fu Master (5 mana 3/5) --> Another Bad Windfury Neutral (4 mana 2/5) --> ??? Rager (3 mana 1/5).
I really hope we see a new rager this expansion. Perhaps he'll be the Wind Rager, a power creep on Am'gam Rager with the windrage keyword (which is just windfury).

I would think that the easiest circumstances to get value are with warrior or priest where you can play some spells and hit Heal or Tank Up! a few times. Which is probably kind of a clumsy situation where Garrison Commander would also do about as well. I guess one could also run Cloaked Huntress and dump all kinds of secrets and unload a lot of face damage in the same turn. Either way, that's still a pretty hefty mana investment where Maiden of the Lake, Fencing Coach, or Emperor Thaurissan is needed.
I suppose for dream situations, one could have Nexus-Champion Saraad on board and get multiple cheap spells from him. Or maybe getting some kind of combo out of Majordomo Executus (post deathrattle) and cheap spells like Arcane Missiles, Sinister Strike, or Moonfire. Poisoned Blade could also get big off this in a miracle deck built around it (bonus points if Sir Finley Mrrgglton rolls Steady Shot for an OTK). Actually, maybe Disguised Toast was the best person to discover this card, because there's some pretty wacky combos out there.
