Professor Putricide Boss Guide - Upper Reaches
Good news everyone! The second boss of the Upper Reaches you will encounter is Professor Putricide.
Fight Details
Professor Putricide is a multi-phase fight which cycles through his different hero powers. Each one of them provides a unique challenge and you won't want to stick in some for long.
The First Phase - Mad Science
The fight starts out with a 15 Armor and 30 Health Putricide and is all about secrets! He has plenty of annoying secrets in his deck from all the secret-wielding classes which you're going to need to play around to the best of your ability. Once you get rid of his armor, he will enter the second phase.
- He does not have an Explosive Trap, so don't worry about it!
- Hunter Secrets: Freezing Trap, Dart Trap, Cat Trick
- Mage Secrets: Frozen Clone, Mirror Entity, Counterspell, Vaporize
- Paladin Secrets: Avenge, Getaway Kodo, Sacred Trial
Ideally you want to only end this phase when you've exhausted his secrets (hey there Eater of Secrets) and have good control. You're also going to want to have drawn removal to nuke Festergut as that will become a threat once the next phase begins.
Important: Do not let him enter the second phase while it is still his turn. Festergut will deal devastating damage.
The Second Phase - Madder Science
Putricide swaps over to his weapon cost-reducing hero power, gains 15 armor, and drops a Festergut onto the field; things start to get really ugly! Use removal on Festergut, play a weapon-breaking minion when he pulls out his weapons, and get rid of that armor to push him into the third phase.
Be warned: Don't push him over the edge until you have a good way of getting rid of Rotface, who is summoned at the start of the next phase.
The Third Phase - Maddest Science
Rotface joins the board and the professor no longer gives himself armor. Everything is also now going to cost 5 mana to play which means you're only able to play two cards per turn now. Once Rotface is dead (hopefully instantly), it's almost a free win. Continue controlling the oozes hes spawning and have fun.
Cool Story Bro
- Eater of Secrets is a requirement for this fight. You want it ASAP! Duplicate combo'd with it is disgustingly good.
- It's actually fairly easy to exhaust his deck and put him into fatigue if you want to try that route.
Watch Out for These Cards
- Growing Ooze - Super annoying if you don't get rid of them as they're played.
- Tentacles - He has two of these in his deck and he'll play them during any phase.
- Festergut - This guy drops on the second phase. You want to make sure you have removal available before pushing him into that phase.
Rewards
Unlike previous adventures, this boss does not reward you with a new card. Instead, you will receive a Frozen Throne card pack upon completion of the Upper Reaches wing.

Trivia
- Good News Everyone! Sound familiar? This comes from Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth of Futurama fame - It's his catchphrase!
- After you defeat Putricide, The Lich King states that the professor belongs in a Hunter deck due to being pathetic.
- Professor Putricide is the final boss in the Plague Wing in WoW's Icecrown Citadel.
- Like the Hearthstone fight, the WoW fight also had three phases.
- The first phase required raiders to slay monsters as soon as possible and run away from the explosions they left behind.
- The second phase has gas bombs drop on melee characters and a goo ball on ranged. Getting hit by these were almost certain death.
- In the final phase, Putricide goes crazy and needs to be killed as soon as humanly possible. He fills the room up with pools of slime that kill players. The pools grew over time until the entire raid died or succeeded in killing the professor.

I managed to beat the villain in the first try with this. My Odd Quest Warrior:
[deck] AAECAQcE08MCnvgCoIADm4oDDUuiBP8Hm8ICysMCoscCyucCquwCnfAC8vECjvsCnvsC2IwDAA[/deck]
Lmao I broke him by using Lorewalk Cho, Duplicate, Seance and Mirror Entity. Once I filled his hand up with spells every card he drew burned and he just kept skipping his turn. There was like 6 Cho’s on the field at one point XD
Won on first try with this deck:
Completely free deck. Substitute Marin for whatever you like if you don't have him.
Priest
Elven Archer x2, Holy Smite x2, Mind Vision x2, Northshire Priest x2, Powerword Shield x2, Stonetusk Boar x1, Acidic Swamp Ooze x2, Divine Spirit x2, Shadow Word Pain x2, Ironforge Rifleman x2, Shadow Word Death x2, Stormwind Knight x2, Holy Nova x2, Reckless Rocketeer x2, Marin the Fox x1, Mind Control x2.
I have made this deck using only basic cards minus Marin the Fox (literally you could switch him for another Stonetusk Boar), as such it is not 100% guaranteed win. You might have to go through a couple hands to get a good opening on him, but once you've successfully exhausted his traps, he will be left defenseless. We are going to be controlling the board with minions and exhausting his traps with spells until we make him go into fatigue, and then mind control or remove the final monsters he summons as his health plummets while he has no cards left to draw. Heal anytime you can spare the mana, and once you've gotten used to the strategy, this game will play itself.
Ideally you want to start with an Acidic Swamp Ooze in your hand to counter his Tentacles weapon, we aren't worried about Eaglehorn Bow. If he gets Tentacles early, and you don't pull an Acidic Swamp Ooze, it could easily snowball into a restart. Bait his Frozen Clone/Mirror Entity with Elven Archer or Stonetusk Boar, while using them to deal with his Growing Ooze. Prioritize killing the Growing Ooze first or another weak minion he has stolen until he has used Duplicate. You don't want his Duplicate to activate on an Abomination. Attack him and his minions with your weak minions to rid him of Vaporize, Venomstrike Trap, and Frozen trap. Bait Counter Spell/Cat Trick with Power Word Shield and Holy Smite. The rest of his traps will activate along the way. Use Shadow Word Death/Reckless Rocketeer, and even Stormwind Knight as emergency removal. When you reach the point that his deck is exhausted, you will likely have Mind Control or another removal to deal with the final monsters he summons as his armor is removed. As I've said, the hardest part will be the opening. Once you have a good hand and successfully bait his most dangerous secrets, controlling the board becomes a piece of cake. Good luck!
Edit: Sorry for the wall of text. I was looking for a free deck to clear this guy (saving dust for a golden Whizzbang) and couldn't find one, so I made it and then decided I would post.
Won against him using the meta Odd Pally deck 1st try without reading the guide.
Same but with a modified Odd Pally deck...

Don't waste dust crafting a specific deck for this boss, I won it with a cheap Jade Druid that I had alread crafted.
I found recommended mage deck is quite uncompetitive against secrets boss after been defeated by Professor Putricide for several rounds, especially when the boss is capable fulfill with secrets from 3 different class through the whole phase. So, I decide to work my own one, I build this Hunter deck focusing on counter-secrets effort. I accidently discovered that Secretkeeper is very useful to counter this boss since the minion's ability will be triggered by playing/summering secret from both players. Furthermore, the hunter has additional anti-secret cards Flare, when corporated with Eater of Secrets it give you a reliable countermeasure against Professor Putricide's secrets tide.
Thanks! I modified the deck for my collection. Playing Lock and Load on the second turn followed by a couple of secrets will give you an early advantage!
Harrison Jones can be replaced with another Gluttonous Ooze.
2nd shot, worked like a charm, great build!
What the FUUUUUUUUCCCKKKKKK? Shit is impossible to fucking beat. Cant they just gimme the fucking cards?
It's actually pretty easy if you make an appropriate Mage deck and don't drain his armor until you can remove the upcoming legendary...
That's not as easy as it sounds, at least I had tried this mage deck three times and the boss is always capable to fulfills the its all classes' secrets through whole phase. Mage deck lacking the good measure to counter its advantage and it is too slow to dominate the scene.
You can try my posted Hunter deck above, I defeat the Professor Putricide in my first game using this deck, it work like dream !
Boss Deck
Still collecting all the cards. Stay tuned.
Almost everyone finished it already...
This guy is like lady death whisper, only half life and no dragon. And a descent deck, but more people are saying he is easy than her.
Basically my high school chemistry teacher
Did you know?
there is interaction while Playing The Lich King vs him,
If you got him, try playing it :D
somehow beat this with secret mage on first try without even knowing he had 2 other phases beforehand.
