I am a very new player, having completed all classes to level 10 and just finishing Naxxramas this morning I am at a bit of a crossroads. I know everyone mentions "grinding" etc. But after you do your daily for 40gold and three wins for 10g theres really not much for me to grind. Anyways, I am looking into making my first deck but being so new I am at a loss as to how to get the required cards. I am not ready to jump into Arena as I am sure I'm not at a level to average 4+ wins per Arena or w/e it may be to make a "profit."
Having looked over a few decks, I have come to the conclusion that a Grim Patron warrior deck seems to be quite viable, and also the cheapest competitive deck I can find (assuming the dust cost on this website indicates deck worth?) Am I right? If not feel free to correct me obviously. Some decks (Tempo Mage etc) I see going for 6K dust (I assume they "cost" more than a Grim Patron deck)? I have reached rank 20 in the "Ranked Play" mode and am pretty much stuck there. The decks I am going up against are far more powerful playing cards I have not even seen, and i know that a lot of people hang around level 20 to "farm" on purpose and prey on beginning players as myself.
TL;DR - I have completed Naxx and all classes to level 10 and am wondering how I should go about "building" my first deck (possibly Grim Patron?). Looking for a cheap yet viable deck to build up from and possibly "grind" with. On a side note, how does one "grind" w/o doing Arena (as this is beyond my current level of skill). Any input is highly appreciated.
Im sure I will get flamed etc. but to those that will actually contribute, I thank you in advance!
Don't play Grim Patron if you just started. It's a broken deck, but it does require a baseline level of skill to play. I'd recommend playing Midrange Hunter, Zoo, or Mech Mage. All are very strong decks that can be built fairly cheaply.
We have a thread full of cheap, viable decks for new players: link
Grim Patron deck costs more than it indicates on site. Adventure wings don't require dust, but each wing costs 700 gold, which is also difficult to grind. Hearthstone is all about trial. I'd suggest you to play the deck that you conceptionaly like the most. It's way more entertaining to get victories with cards/classes you are conceptionaly found of, playing for the sake of winrate isn't interesting, ESPECIALY if you are new.
The next expansion is going to give nice options for deck builders, a lot of interesting neutrals, like look at last release, 6 mana 5/5 that gives random Paladin card, to any class. So far, blizzard releases adventure, expansion, adventure, expansion.. so this month there is a new expansion to be released, which is a very lucky time for you to join hearthstone, because new cards at expansion CAN be crafted, unlike cards from adventures. We, f2p players, really lack strenght in our decks without zombie chows, flamewakers etc. So, save up your dust, you have about 20 days to learn how to play and create your first deck, which will acutualy be unique for the whole comunity, since expansion is fresh! It's your chance not only to enter competetive hearthstone, but to change it ;)
Exactly what everyone said, those suggested decks imply trading and board control. Thats what u need to perfect your gameplay.
Patron warrior needs lots of thinking ahead and suicide calls that a new player isnt ready to take. It will make u loose most of the time.
Face hunter will net you better results but its a parallel game to hearthstone and the more time u spend playing it the less rdy u are to learn your next deck and adapt to new metas.
In my opinion if u want to be competitive u need to throw real money at it, or slowly learn how to play arena with random cards against random cards which im not fond of...
Face Hunter would be your best bet to win quick as a new player as you wouldn't need to comprehend the concepts of tempo or card advantage. I would recommend avoiding Mech Mage in your situation because you need to understand tempo to make correct Mechwarper plays. (Same applies to Druid with wild growth curves and innervate plays)
Zoo is definitely the best deck for beginners. Unlike easier-to-play decks like Face Hunter, it promotes really thinking about trades and value instead of just killing your opponent's hero as quickly as possible. It also has this incredible tendency to be able to answer almost any of your opponent's plays from early-game all the way up through mid-game.
I will recommend Zoo for beginners because it helps them learn the mechanics of hearthstone ex. efficient trading and board control which can become a stepping stone for later decks like handlock or control warrior. Zoo will also help you climb ladder easily but it will take time to learn it completely and to get a hang of it. here is a link to Trump teaching Zoo.
Zoo is a good starting point. Honestly, if you're new I wouldn't spend a lot yet. Just play and get a feel for the game while earning some gold for packs. Try all the classes, settle on a couple that you want to play and eventually look at buying a few key cards for those with whatever dust you may have.
It's easy to feel like you're treading water, but your effort adds up and the more cards you get the easier it will get.
I really must say thanks a lot so far, I got many more constructive and positively charged comments of feedback than I expected! I should probably have prefixed my introduction that Ihave played many many years of mtg so coming to a ccg such as this I fully understand card tempo, board state, value trades and the like. From what I am gather thing though it seems as if Grim Patron is difficult to play and now actually as cheap as this site would have me believe. I am also gathering that zoo seems to be the way to go, is it called "zoo" because you essentially play a bunch of bodies or..? Also, a lot of people are saying "build zoo" etc. but that is more or less my problem and a main question of my original post...how? How can I go about realistically getting the cards in order to build zoo w/o purchasing a ton of packs? After finding a basic zoolock deck list.. Then what?
Sorry for anything weird about this post I am now on a mobile device (vacation) and it wouldn't let me post any responses so I had to click the quotes as a workaround. This may not even work. Thanks so far!!!
Take your time to build your collection, get all the adventures for real money to begin with, pre order the 50 packs for the argent tournament, and just do your daily's.
I spend 100 euro's for classic packs back in the days, I bought naxx for gold, blackrock mountain for real money, and i had around 5000 gold when gnomes vs goblins came out. I just do my daily's nothing more and I got every good card you need in this game + 12.000 dust.
The thing is, I have been playing since beta so thats almost 2 years now. You just need to take your time and craft the cards for decks that you really want to play. disenchant all your golden cards and useless legendary's for the time beeing till you got a solid collection going.

Good luck! Don't let the people who say you can't do well without paying lots of money fool you, they are just bad players.
Have a great deck that's really, really cheap? Help the new players out
Play zoo.... It's cheap and requires some thought into it...
Grim Patron is one of the toughest decks in the game to play and it looks a lot cheaper than it really is because you need Blackrock Mountain.
I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner.

yes, you play bunch of bodies and control the board by trading it efficiently
complete daily quest for golds and try arena. Learn to be a good arena player and it can help you grind much faster
