Well, DK Garrosh was way more useless back in the days, it was just terrible compared to other DKs.
The Problem of the Mage Hero is his cost. Just look at what Tamsin does for 6 (Hellfire + 3 Draw + 3 minion in deck, Direct Upgraded HP) or Paladin ( Consec, OP weapon and wincond HP) , meanwhile Mage costs 8 and does half of what the others do. Heck, if you are playing Ping-Mage it even resets every HP upgrade you previously had.
It has some potential with some new spells in the future, but for 8 mana he is a Joke. I'd consider running him for maybe 6.
Your list actually inspired me to create my own version of it :D
I'm currently still testing the cards since i love the big mage archetype but gotta admit, i've had limited success with it. :D. I want to include Alanna in this deck, but so far the 10 - 9 cost minions like Kalecgos and Alexstrasza seem way too slow. I even tried removing the iceblood tower since its very situational.
Cards i've added to my list: Frostweave Duneoneer, Snowbind harpy, naga sand witch, puzzle of yogg saron. Right now i'm testing this deck with frost lich Jaina. I seem to have a hard time closing down games.
Lmk what you think.
Yeah closing games is hard i guess its like ever Mage Deck with Luna’s Pocket Galax Deck. If u get it early it can be really busted cause u can cheat out both expensive spells and expensive minions but if u dont its hard ;). And even if u manage the Big Spells don’t win u the game Lunas and all the Legenderies do. I actually had lots of success earl but now that i am Platin again i start losing a lot more. Sadly Pure “Control” is just not good enough in general most of the time. OTK is just stronger (especially in Wild) cause u can’t really interact with it like in Magic the Gathering (Mono Blue Urza Stax Player here xD). Still it’s a lot of fun.
Yeah Iceblood Tower sadly is very unreliable i might try and cut it aswell maybe for Tortolan Pilgrim or even C’thun the Shattered although if i include him Iceblood Tower might be fun again cause he can cast the pieces out of the deck … ;)
Originally i wanted to include Alanna as well but sadly she i think she gets answered way to easy.
I want to test the Dragon Package a bit more but the idea with Puzzle Box sounds a lot of fun aswell. Naga Sand Witch is a good alternative for sure if i cut some of the Dragons.
It depends on what Blizzard does going forward. If they give Mage spells that are tagged with the other schools, depending on what they do, he could be really good. They also need to change the interaction between Wildfire and hero power changes.
Another interesting application for the battlecry is with Deck of Lunacy as you can also copy some nice high cost nature/holy spells like Cenarion Ward, Libram of Hope, etc.
Im F2P and opened it in my packs so ive been trying to make it work, but im convinced its a dud, it conflicts with everything mage is trying to do.
Big Spell mage might have a chance though, just not with this crappy hero.
Remember that it is here for the next two years. Just think of the warrior quest and how it wasn't a thing until the mini set.
Im no longer convinced buffing archetypes will help the game at this point. UiS introduced too much wrong.
Ping/Big Spell mage need to compete with Ignite as a late game wincon. How do you compete with infinite dmg thats only limited by how fast you can draw you deck? How do you power creep peak degeneracy? Not sure I want to see the answer to that question.
Turns out it was naive to think FAV would bring drastic changes, and expecting the same from the miniset is wishful thinking imo. Balance patch waiting room YEP
Problem for me is the 7mana spellcaster and the amazingly useless objective that both don't synergize at all with him nor with the parrot. That's what obliterates any chance for the deck to be remotely viable.

did you even bother hovering over the card name in his post? it clearly says shadow in the bottom of the card lol
MMMmmmmmm...Acceptable.

I got a Golden one, hurray!
This thing when people like the op post card names without linking them assuming everyone knows all the hearthstone cards by name is so frustrating…
Wait, when did that happen?
I don't recall it being a shadow spell ever. Maybe it was a fix?
Then again, my bad.

If you recast target spells with him you can even hit your own minions and face...and that's just bullshit
Fireball for example hit my own face
it's because blizzard hate mages that's why they printed such shitty cards
go fuck yourself
The Shadow tag was added to Mask of C'Thun, Idol of Y'Shaarj, and Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron in the same patch that brought us Deadmines on Nov. 2, 2021.

It's for big spells you cast yourself. Don't run Courier with it.

They changed it recently to give it the shadow spell type so it can cast it. That's why some big mage spell decks use the Hero.

spend 1600 dust to craft it, judge me
they retconned Mask to be a shadow spell recently, giving Mage access to 4 spell schools
I crafted it golden, sue me :)
