Tickatus can only push out other control decks from the meta if it's played often enough to ruin those deck's win rate. If we take the VS statistic that was referred to as a guide, you'll face tickatus in about 8.6% of your games. If this actually has scared you away from playing other control decks, despite the fact that they are the best counter for rouge, which is much more prevalent, then the problem is probably your own judgement....
The meta defining effects of Tickatus has nothing to do with conformation bias. That arbitrary 8.6% is just a snapshot in time. Controle doesn't suffer from this card alone which adds to a more broader suppression of balanced multi class controle representation.
It's not the stats, its the politics of card design.
So we agree I suppose....?
As I wrote before, VS & HSR statistics are just guiding numbers. These percentages are significantly higher than my own experience, so I don't really know what confirmation bias you're talking about. The other players saying that control is dead because they lost to a tickatus? Your point is that tickatus is just an addition to what suppresses control in the meta right? Well I never promoted mono causality here either, only the contrary. The OP states that Tickatus is the reason why control is dead. We both obviously disagree to that. Sure, they could have redesigned the entire set and maybe tickatus wouldn't FEEL so problematic, but neither of us have any data to use that really... It's an argument that you could use all the time. Leeroy could also be standard 4 cost again if half of the cards were redesigned. We just got a new miniset that allows crazy aggro, mid range, control, OTK and greed, the options might not be perfectly balanced, but the way I see it, we have fewer but more powerful aggro decks and two BIG minion and one super greed deck that preform well. Just to repeat myself again, my rank ofc adds a bias. I see no tickatus in 4500 legend but used to see more in 10000. If that's time or the rank I can't say, but I do see more salt threats about tickatus than the actual card.
BTW: I mostly play quest shaman, HL warrior and token DH atm and have absolutely no problem with tickatus.
Let me first let Ayala explain about Tickatus (Source OutofCards).
When designing powerful, even polarizing cards,(such as Tickatus), what strategies and tools do ya'll use in determining balance? As cards of this nature typically incite player frustration, what standards/properties are focused in designing these types of cards?
Hmm, this is probably a very long answer but the short one is that some people LOVE these cards. Like they play your game because these cards exist. They are mean and they like to do mean things. The idea of destroying their opponent's cards gives them cackle-worthy joy. (Source)
Because of this, we want to make something for that player. Because they can be so frustrating, we don't want them to be too powerful. Mean person that loves mean stuff gets their toy to use but most players aren't regularly exposed to it. That's the dream at least. (Source)
If Tickatus were meta and in 20% of decks, I'm skeptical that is good for us. In the same way it wasn't great for Shudderwock to be the #1 deck or Freeze Mage to be the most popular thing. (Source)
What we see here is target audience card design. What we read here is a little insight in the politics of card design. What we witness here is how Ayala and consort are repulsive and reprehensible. Joy for the target audience, dehumanization and little consideration for the opponent - off course in this case control players.
My point: don't let control be too dominant as the target audience - the most dominant group of pack buyers would then stop playing. In the end its all about the money. And yes you do exactly what Ayala wants: play shaman or some other kind of aggro-aggressive deck. I guess you fit well into the target audience. So the whole discussions reverence to statistics is irrelevant really.
If you are set on using a pic of Trump I would atleast suggest changing it to one which doesn't look like he is in the middle of telling the press to 'fuck off' or similar. It just makes the following post feel more antagonistic.
Stop feeding the trolls dude, this is EXACTLY the kind of reaction he wants to see out of his picture. Ignoring him is the most dmg you can deal :)
Correct, Psy, and you then came in and blamed me for taking abuse because people are apparently so triggered by my avatar, they can't resist hurling invective. And you further went on to say that somehow this particular picture is EVEN WORSE than whatever passes for a less inflammatory pic of him. Hence my offer. It's a simple train of conversation, and my point in offering is I think the concept that somehow there is a less inflammatory type of pic that still includes him is utter nonsense. People will use the excuse to hurl whatever vile abuse they think justified, secure in the knowledge that because a mean man is pictured, I deserve it.
Incidentally, I am in no way projecting my political beliefs. The few times that has been called for on the forum, I don't use a picture. I state them to whatever degree is warranted. The pic was chosen because it looked funny, though once again, this concept that someone could be so horribly provoked by pixels as to not only be forced to curse and whine to the extent I've seen, but to also be completely released from any agency for doing so, is downright amazing to me.
Back to the topic at hand, I really do want to hit these pockets of ladder that are allegedly so highly infested with Tick Lock (the name Tick Lock is beginning to grow on me, given the connotation of "infested"). They must be the fastest stepping stones to Legend seen since the early days of Undertaker Hunter.
I've been clawing slowly toward #300, and the only Tickatus I've seen in two days was in my own deck for a time. About the moment I lost to something using the new deathrattle that shuffles primes plus Vectus, I was done with the Tick. Props to that dude, though. Amazing how difficult 3 Murgle Primes can be to overcome.
EDIT: @Avaid, sorry I missed page six before posting originally. You're exactly 50% correct. It is incredibly interesting to see such a reaction, but not because it was a trollish design. Specifically because it wasn't. Perhaps some trolling always starts out as an accident, but I was 100% earnest when I offered to change the avatar.

So now quest shaman is an aggro deck? WOW! (does that include highlander warrior and token combo DH?) And I'm target audience since I never play tickatus? Interesting! So why does using statistics get irrelevant again? Because THEY use statistics to see if annoying cards should be nerfed? Your interpretation is pretty weird tbh. Ayala states that some people really enjoy winning by playing disruptive cards like tickatus. NOT some people would stop playing if control became the main thing. I think Iksar made a similar statement including Illucia AKA cards that win through pure annoyance. But whatever! This discussion has gotten a bit weird and slightly cringy...
More than Tickatus itself, I hate more the fact that they can played several of them, with Felosophy (don't know if it is still play) and Y'shaarj. Like 5 cards and an 8/8 for 6 mana.... ok.
10 mana 16/16 destroy 6 minions burn 5 more cards is a big no no.
Control is (mostly) dead because of aggro, which beats everything at this point (control, combo, midrange, tempo). Aggro is simply too strong and has no real counter, so you can either join them, either continue losing... or quit.
Back in topic, I noticed that I don't find Tickatus anymore. I think after losing many games vs aggro, people gave up on it.
Yup.. just like i said..
On side notes, people today are arguing just for the sake of arguing and showoff. Discussion can be easily derailed to another personal topic like avatar or proving someone right/wrong without discussing the actual objective things that matter. Or even just include some personal opinion and lie here and there to make it sounds cool. When I first started talked in this forum I thought it's a good forum to talked about the game, now it's not. Just a forum for people to feel superiority above others in every thread.
Whelp, guess what, Gibberling Druid is fucking aggro super hard and tearing them all apart, so no one is playing aggro on the first day of ladder LOL. All I saw all day was Priest, Cheese Paladin and token druid, so my galakrond lock got legend like taking a walk in the park. Turns out control is not that dead huh.
Control was never alive because retarded face decks were always pushed forward and most annoying class in hearthstone history, Rogue, always getting tools to finish everything before turn 5.
Remember Quest Rogue? Remember Kingsbane Rogue? Miracle Rogue? Now they have 5 mana legendary summoning 2x 5 cost minions, 1 mana card - rotate my deck and find card I need, infinite combo card generator, they still have most powerful removal Sap for 2 mana and eviscerate (should be hofed long time ago), crazy weapon with crazy buffs (card giving plus attack to minion and weapon was rotated long time ago because of power level and they took it back lol). But I feel Rogue is weakest ever now even all these tools because my control healing discarding opponent deck taunt warlock can be healed finally!

There's one thing I don't get. If Blizzard wants us all to play aggro decks (as they admitted in some interviews), why do they keep printing big and mana-expensive cards that need more time and setup to play? If there's no room for slower decks, why bother? They want more "dead cards" in packs for more profit or what?
I genuinely think that the one single mechanic that is responsible for popularity of aggro is card draws and/or creation. Every aggro deck that I've seen relies on this, rogue in particular is a shining example. It affects the game's pace and becomes a race of who can have as many strong, low cost cards to play the fastest. Curb that and people would start putting higher costs cards into their deck not to run out of things to play. Can you imagine what it would be like with no (or very limited) extra card draws? One card each turn, that is it. It would make the game much better paced.
For everyone who still considers Tickatus a fringe card, brace yourselves. Apparently, a good number of streamers are trying to optimize this control warlock deck now & you can expect all the rank & file followers to flock to it.
Sounds good to me. Nearly every class has options with dominating win rates against Tick Lock. Farm the wins and enjoy.
Incidentally, I'll be interested to see this cabal of streamers. Haven't seen anyone with a following playing the Tick in quite some time. Maybe someone will find a configuration for the deck that can limp its way over 50% win rate so we actually have something to talk about here.

Well Feno, NoHands, & Kibler were all playing it today to name a few. Do they have big enough followings for you? It's pretty standard for the status quo to want to play what they see streamers play. Surely, you aren't debating that.
You're also still stuck on the win rate argument. I'm not really sure what the decks overall win rate has to do with the balance of one card in said deck, but I digress. I remember hearing similar arguments made way back when about The Caverns Below, which never had over a 50% win rate at any point, yet was still nerfed. Also, notice how I said lists were being optimized, didn't say anything about it having a great win rate, so you're arguing a non issue here.
Others in this thread have already made it clear how much they dislike playing against this card. All I'm saying is they might start encountering it more, since more folks with visibility have been experimenting with the deck.

Who the fuck cares about Tickatus when there is people ramping to 10 mana on turn 4 consistently , flooding the board more aggressively than token druid and most aggro decks , and then outvaluing many of the most greedy control decks out there.

I see that the shadow changed his avatar. Good for him. Now to deal with the inner-Trump. Not that easy.
To the matter at hand. Tickatus is not a strong card in itself. It is an aggro attractor, therefore a skill deminishing proposition (what T5 wants to be dominant). It is not that it can't be beaten. It is not about win rates. It is about fairness and the lack of it if you have build a deck and unable to play it to its full potential.
The lack of fairness is due to a lack of balance, is due to serving a target audience instead of winning based on skill and tactics. That is repulsiveness of card design. That's why people hate the card.
That is well deserved for abusing this cheat engine.
