I am another one who is not into HS anymore, I was bored of the stale meta in Witchwood and started to not feel so much fun by either playing or watching in streams. So I was interested to know others card games and subscribed into MTGA closed beta, they were taking much time to include me, so I saw some Kripparrian's Shadowverse vídeos and I thought in trying It, to see How It was, It was june 10, I was thinking to myself in play both HS and SV but I really had more desire playing SV, then I thought to myself that I was taking a break from HS, but after RR came out, I played the first day and I was really bored, now, I dont know If I will be back to HS again ( I am even so behind in cards and decks) but I find It hard. Also SV has a lot of stuff that HS dont has and I really feel more attracted to It, the game itself has a story that I really love and I love the easthetics, SV literally replaced HS to me. After open beta for MTGA I tried to play, but It doesnt seen for me ( although I really want to like It). I am not making campaign for Shadowverse, neither hate Hearthstone, I am Just saying that for a game that exists for so long, It is only natural to people drop of for being tired of the game and look for other options.
To all the people in denial....if you can't see the many MANY signs that HS is losing it's playerbase, and has been for a while now, you just aren't very perceptive. The signs are literally everywhere and the cherry on top is the devs asking people who play less what can be done to improve the game such that they might play more again. But hey...keep on ignoring the obvious. It's probably how you manage to get through your life in the first place.
unless you're an arena player, there is literally no point in playing hearthstone anymore.
single player is boring... and ladder is even more boring. like, why would you play ladder? there is literally no incentive to do so for the casual player. legend rank means nothing since you play against the same decks anyways.
yes the community is great, but in a certain way to a fault. HS players will always come back. even if blizzard doesn't care about making the game good. and blizzard knows that, so..
i have fun playing arena. but besides that, Hearthstone is boring af.
If you're so lazy that you can't find interesting decks to play, you are not indicitive of any trends or patterns except your own laziness. Why do people think they can make these sweeping statements yet still have their original idea intact?

If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.
Yeah, I'm fairly certain that one of the devs asking people what it would take for them to come back is probably a bad sign. Plus 2018 was pretty bad for HS with two forgettable expansions and very few of their cards saw use. Hilariously, Dustwood turned out to be the best of the three.
It's not really a mystery why hearthstone has been losing player base:
2 dud sets in a row where very little change to the meta happened due to the new cards.
The only changes to the meta have been driven by nerfs. So people have been losing cards/decks that they invested time or money to build. Which gives a negative edge to the changes. Especially since a lot of the nerfed cards were not OP or part of OP decks.
This happening at a time when a credible competitor is launching so people have other options.
It's not just Hearthstone. So many streamers are quitting all Blizzard games, WoW, Overwatch, HoTS. I think people are finally going to stand up to Blizzard and let them know that their games are turning to crap and will just stop playing them.

You do not truly know someone, until you fight them.....
I just hate that mentality of "keep doing the same cause it's successful" Blizzard is using on HS
More like "keep doing the same cause it was successful", but yeah, it is very annoying and I hate it too, hehe.
Well this time of the year HS is at it's worst it's before a rotation so nobody wants to craft ANYTHING cause it will lose value, everything you craft in 2 months is gonna be useless (if you play standard of course).
Crafting jsut feels bad in HS the dust system is painful

They'll all return when the new releases come in; these things are an ebb and flow, even when they're down...to say this is spelling the absolute end of things is ignorant of history. Just because things are indictating a lack of growth is not related to what you're saying in any meaningful, quantifiable way; it's just, like, your opinion dude.

If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.
Players : twitch streamers : playerbase? Also there are more content creators in the world aside from the narrow, more publisiced names you mentioned; that certainly doesn't equate any judgement on playerbase, unless you have some data you're not revealing.
you are right. there are more content creators than just the big names. however, if most of the big names are doing something else, that doesn't reflect well on hearthstone. the creators without the big names don't hold nearly as much influence. these smaller names probably can't sustain hearthstone alone.
The problem with HS right now is there is absolutely nothing to do, good cards are a full year old and new cards are abysmal. Every match is against either a OTK, odd/even or a infinite value monster like Rexxar and Jaina. If meta game changed every time with last 2 expansions, then HS wouldn't bleed so many players.
Cancellation of tournament mode was also a huge blow to morale of many people who were expecting a new game mode for a long time. Casual mobile games like CoC and Clash Royale has more game modes than HS. I honestly don't think HS devs get how to make a casual game, they think if they don't ever touch the game it would be "casual friendly" which is total BS.
Apart from new game mode, lack of features like good spectator mode and achievements also hurts a lot.
Anyway I have faith in devs, they will make HS Great Again after rotation. :)
I disagree. Saying that many streamers are taking a break or quiting (Kibler & Firebat haven't quit to my knowledge, so much as taking things easy til new content) is akin to saying that some of the most popular football stars (or insert chosen sport here) choosing to quit the sport means the sport is massively dipping in popularity. Having the the unofficial public face of HS going on the down low doesn't mean thousands or tens of thousands of people like you or more are suddenly quitting the game.
Streamers work a repetitive job. You more or less do the same thing with little variance. How many people do you know that have also changed jobs or flat out quit for experiencing the same thing? Shouldn't be surprising that streamers sometimes do this as well.
Last month or so I’ve seen 25k+ viewers at one point and then 10k or less at others.
HS has had a slump in revenue as reported in the Blizzard Activision report for Q4. However, I think it’s still making a lot of money.
The lower revenue and streaming numbers are honestly due to the same things: a stale meta that’s been stale a long time with little change. That and new games like Auto Chess, some also gravitating to things like MTG:A or Artifact reducing Twitch viewership at times. (Just kidding! Artifact is dead already!)
At rotation it’ll likely bounce back strong. At least until a month in when it’s all Genn/Baku decks again!
How can u say Mtg is not expensive even if online or lrl it costs a butt load to play I use to love playing Mtg but I have no friends everyone moved on to having kids and stuff. I am so lost even trying out it online cause there is new mechanics I have never seen I went to hearthstone cause well it was free I spent lots of money so I can enjoy the game. I am as casual as it gets this month I got rank 15 for the first time cause I really didn’t care to ladder with brain dead decks and people who grief u in game every turn is rope. You can say oh he has this problem or this problem that makes it slow but not every turn.

No, no, to save Hearthstone.

Yeah, the new year is the last chance for hearthstone in my eyes to be honest.
f2p btw

Well https://www.twitch.tv/directory
HS is losing quite badly to TETRIS from all things
4K viewers less than MTG ATM, yeah I am aware it's a low period for HS but that's when the game loses a lot of players.
Dk was a Huge mistake.
Discover mechanics is a huge mistake
Infinite value deck is a huge mistake
Odd/Even deck is another huge mistake

Why are comparing Tetris to hs ? Isn’t that like apple 🍎 to orange 🍊.
Is too late now. This game is not going to survive until next set of cards.
Blizzard deserve what is happen right now. It is almost bankrupt.
Every since the announces of the past Blizz Con is a big mistake after big mistake after big mistake.
