Equality is an insane aoe for only 2 mana. Compare it to another aoe like lightbomb, which costs 4 mana and is still an absurd card, and equality is almost as good. Now compare equality to consecrate. Didn’t it feel weird using the equality for 2 mana and then the consecrate for twice the cost, even though equality was doing all the work? Equality deserves to be at 4 mana.
Another thing to point out is that odd paladin maybe wouldn’t even run equality for 3 mana. It would end up as a dead card the whole game in most matchups, also slowing down divine favour. Odd paladin simply doesn’t want equality because once it has lost the board and is trading everything away, it’s probably already lost the entire game.
So please stop with this terrible argument because I feel like everyone just spews this shit and doesn’t even think about it just because they want to hate on Blizzard for whatever reason they can.
First of all equality was never good by itself. You always needed to combo it with another card. It affects your minions too, just try to play it against a mage who has Frost Lich Jaina in play, it feels horrible. Don't say it's better than Twisting Nether. Equality + pyro can't kill minions with divine shield nor minions that are under an aura effect like Stormwind Champion.
And secondly, baku affected equality. Actually, baku is the reason equality was nerfed to 4 mana instead of 3. Imagine odd paladin spamming 1/1 dudes just to equality and trade them into your big minions.
First, Equality does nothing on its own. You need to combo it with specific cards like Consecration or Wild Pyromancer for it to work as an AOE. So comparing it to single-card AOEs is absurd.
Second, Equality affects your own minions too, which justifies a lower cost than cards that affect enemy minions only.
Heres the thing equality aint an aoe for a control deck cause it usually doesnt run enough minions to trade into. Therefore equality is a card that requires another combo card like pyro or consecration. Baku affected its cost cause odd pally would use it to trade its tiny tokens into giants enemies. Equality needs u to draw another card which makes it a fair cost of 2.
Many games ive played where i couldn't play equality even if it costed 0 mana.
We've had an official response (on the r/hearthstone) saying that at 3 mana Equality was still problematic and Baku the Mooneater was not related to the change. Should we call them liars because everyone jumped on the genn/baku bandwagon of hate because some HS personalities express their dislike for the cards?
And secondly, baku affected equality. Actually, baku is the reason equality was nerfed to 4 mana instead of 3. Imagine odd paladin spamming 1/1 dudes just to equality and trade them into your big minions.
They already posted a statement where they SAID that it didn't. Equality is too strong at 3 mana too, simply because then everyone would still use it. Blizzard wants to reduce the impact of classic and basic cards. Since the release of Hearthstone Equality was in nearly EVERY deck, so yes, a nerf to it is necessary to allow them to print AoE-Effects that get actually used:
Look at Enter the Coliseum: was never used, because of Equality. Look at Shrink Ray: was never used because of Equality. Nerfing it to 3 mana wouldn't have solved anything, it would still probably be used in the next few years.
As i still hate everything that has to do with Standard and is despice the rotations; i can understand that having such a powerful card always available is an issue for it.
Still: i would have changed it in the next xpack, adding a new common aoe-removal there.
Odd paladin summons two 1/1s with their hero power and combining this sticky small board presence with the ability to change the health values of all enemy minions to 1 as well allows for super good trades. same goes for Sunkeeper Tarim essentially. the more tokens, the more powerful the effect
Hey guys the big ppl from the seats of power said baku had nothing to do with equality being at 4 mana instead of 3. I guess giggling inventor wasn't nerfed to 7 instead of 6 cause of Genn. But don't worry spellstone of hunters was nerfed to 6 instead of more cause that card is fair and balanced.
Yeah if the devs said something then we should all be sheep and believe their words as truth. Cause the big ppl in higher seats of power never lie.
The Angry Chicken podcast celebrated its 300th episode the afternoon that the nerfs were launched - as it happens, their special guest was Peter Whalen. They interviewed PW for about 45 minutes, and their entire interview focused on the nerfs. I'd recommend anyone who is honestly interested in the subject to watch the video on YT.
FWIW - PW discussed the internal debate that the balance team had for each of the nerfs. Setting Equality to 4-mana wasn't a simple decision, and one of the considerations that influenced them was certainly Baku - again, if the OP isn't simply trolling, I'd suggest that he watch the interview . . .

Let's be honest now. With all the hate Baku and Genn are receiving don't expect devs to say they overnerf cards because of these 2. They knew they screwed up with even and odd decks, they don't want to nerf baku nor genn but also don't want to admit they make balance changes around them. I've literally seen nobody complaining about equality.
I started playing HS after KoFT so I don't know why Enter the Coliseum was a bad card but I guess it was because paladin never had a control archetype. Secret paladin, murloc paladin, dude paladin, now odd and even paladin. These decks don't play big dudes and 6 mana is just too much to leave one minion for your opponent too. Compare it to Brawl and you will see that Enter the Coliseum is trash. Shrink Ray on the other hand was used in some builds of OTK DK paladin. The reason why the card is bad is because it costs 5 mana and it doesn't clear the board, you still need to combo it with pyro/cons which makes it a very expensive and bad board clear (this is exactly what will happen to equality after nerfs).
Hopefully they will give paladin a nice board clear in the next expansion to justify the nerf to equality, otherwise I will be very disappointed in activision.

What the hell would devs get from lying about Equality nerf ?

Isnt it obvious what Marega is implying? Cause if they say "equality needs a mana cost change but not of 1 as we usually do but of 2. Reason why is so that odd pally cant use it for a great aoe something that of course hyper aggro decks historically dont have. Yeah we are admiting that in order to avoid Baku we nerfed it to 4. It happens when we create cards that limit design space"
They dont want to admit flaws in their designs if course.
I am actually happy that Genn and Bakkuu are giving developers a thought on mana cost of cards and we are getting more frequent card nerfs, let the meta shake-up every now and then before a rotation/xpac.
Of course they lied that 3 mana want related to bakuu because it defiantly is, and that was smart decision bcuz odd paladin will always have 1/1 to trade.
That being said, equality change does hit paladin as they will still have to include it but it make them do nothing the turn they board clear (as it should). Like flamestrike, twisting nether, you spend big mana to clear the board but without a real tempo-swing of getting back the board.
