Turns out they removed "Heroes of Warcraft" for a reason. And as some who never cared about WOW or any Warcraft, game I am perfectly fine with Hearthstone right now.
With Dave Kosak in the HS team the game changed lore-wise to be creative instead of just imitative - this is largely good for both HS and WoW - with this change things can go other way round - we can already see HS inspired stuff in WoW - and HS is more exciting with new chars, like for example Boom's scientists. Still the game is deeply rooted in Warcraft world and shows how much is this world capable to create.
We had Knights Of The Frozen Throne not long ago and it was highly based on Warcraft...
KotFT was related warcraft yes but It was also "How it will be if well-known warcraft characters will be Death Knights?"
so KotFT also has its own lore with Hearthstone. It also corrupted WoW Lore but evereyone was happy because they have finally The Lich King himself as a card.
For all thread; Noone mentioned TGT, Which saddens me. TGT is heavily based on Warcraft and no-one liked that expansion because it couldn't change the game well enough, so we can see easily say that effective gameplay > lore for Hearthstone. Because you can't be a part of the Lore in Hearthstone or you can't follow Lore from it. It is just flavor for it.
Well TGT was one of the best expansions for me. Because I like the cards which community refuses to play + I like Lore themed stuff but like I said in my above post we need more iconic characters for WoW itself. Maybe Hearthstone can't make it for WoW but Hearthstone has a great place to try new things and evaluate how communit reacts new lore characters.
Anduin was one of those. In my opinion it was the biggest move of changing WoW lore by directing it with Hearthstone. (yeah ok it was Varian's son and it didn't shape in Hearthstone I know that but You understood what I tried to say). It was a great move but also a mistake in my opinion because Priest hero could be a well-known character. [Maybe Velen, Ishanah or Whitemane (not as Death Knight)] Well I like Anduin unlike other WoW players. Because I can see How Blizzard is trying to make a new iconic character and I have respect for that.
Community shouldn't forget that Warcraft is "their" game and their Saga which we can like or dislike.
Think about a book. Let's go around The Lord of the Rings and trilogy. If Tolkien did care much about the thoughts of readers, Would they be unique ? Think about it like Tolkien wrote them as asking it around like "Hey, I will create a concept like this, Do you think people will love this ?"
The Biggest problem of new generation games is that Designers cares too much about community thoughts. It makes designers, lore writers dependent to the community and it simplifies Lores, games and characters so They can't be unique. It is what capitalism brings but yeah this is a different topic of a differrent place. :)
Memedeck-seeker. Always tries to build new decks. Hates tournements, streamers, netdecks and poor-o players. ah, but a tournement mode could be great !!!
"Heroes of Warcraft" has been gone since, what, Old Gods? Mean Streets? And for good reason. Hearthstone is set in an alternate universe based on the Warcraft setting. As was previously mentioned, the game is also supposed to be a game actually played inside the real Warcraft universe, as there's even a HS board in some tavern inside WoW. Expansions only being loosely based on things inside their world and renown characters makes sense, as it's a fantasy setting inside the fantasy setting of WoW. Karazahn having huge dance parties on a weekly basis might very well be something some game designer in the WoW universe could come up with, since the average citizen probably doesn't have too much knowledge on what is actually going on in there and goes by hear-say, then puts some personal fun spin on it to make it interesting, fun and not as real.
Hearing about Dr. Boom and then building this silly huge mythos around him and his BoomLabs is like the whole Chuck Norris shtick of him being some unimaginable superhuman, despite just being a normal guy in reality. It's the denizens of the Warcraft universe having fun with celebrities and locales in their world, honestly makes perfect sense in an overall lore perspective. I'd even argue that having HS be super serious and lore-bound would make it less lore friendly than it is now as that'd just be hella weird of a card game to have on Azeroth.
I've just wanted to say to OP "Hello! Hello! Hello!"
Look the Rastakhan Rumble and call Hearthstone is done officially with Warcraft.
nope!

Rasthakans rumble or how that expansion is called features the bfa horde lore, which is not complete. How can u be sure if there will be no legendary minion coming from wow and how can you be so sure there are no loa that come from wow? Also I like that they don't pick most of their cards from wow,it expands the wow universe which is amazing, even if they are not in that specific game(wow) they are in hearthstone. So please no drama, that is useless, drama is useless and should be forgot.

if you mean that OP referring to RR as an expansion out of wow universe, i want to say that this thread is written in august.
Yeah not really sure what the point of OP’s post is. Mean streets had a lot of new characters as well. I’m still not sure why they dropped heroes of Warcraft.
This post was originally from the Boomsday Project, which had little (or no?) characters from Warcraft lore. And I think the reason they dropped that part from the name was for one of two reasons, or maybe for both reasons. 1) They may have realized when they dropped that part of the name that eventually they would have to make up new characters to fill all the Legendary minion slots in a set. 2) It was done to simplify the name.

this sums it up perfectly imo.

we literally just now got an expack that directly follows what is going on right now in wow

The design team did state they didn't want to use canon Warcraft lore as a limitation for their design many times. So this was expected.

For some reason, that made me laugh.
I think this necro can be justified. It is not THAT old, the topic is relevant, and the older posts do not confuse the discussion too much.

Don't worry. When they run out of WoW characters, an interdimensional rift will open and you can play new cards inspired by characters from
Hearthstone: Heroes of the Storm
Bad players whine.
Good players adapt.
For somebody who cares a lot about warcraft characters, you certainly don't know a lot about warcraft characters.
