Hey guys, now that Majordomo Executus is out, do you think he is viable in any current deck? I know many people consider him to be a bad legendary but I love how his deathrattle works.
The only deck with a shot is freeze mage because the Ragnaros transformation breaks all armor. So in Freeze mage the card can work because iceblock or ice barrier persist through.
first thing first, if you use Alexstrasza, you get to 15 hp first of all (has it is described in the card description of this website)
also the deck ECHO CONTROL from day 9, you replace Dr. Boom by Majordomo Executus and voila, you will have fun.
it's pretty cool...unless Kezan Mystic appears than it's less fun.
PART 2:
just watched some stream...
it may not be really viable finally
here is why:
- if you have Ice Block up, you activate the Ice Block and THEN you kill Majordomo Executus, well you lose your immunity from Ice Block and you get killed... so yeah... it's not that great...
Deathrattle: Replace your hero with Ragnaros, the Firelord. Your hero is immune until the start of your next turn.
Here. Guaranteed 1 turn to live might make it viable but definately not OP since after that it's still 8hp. But you can now combo it with stuff like Shield Block for warrior.
I feel like he cant be played easily because of the super aggressive meta we are in where decks such as mech mage or face hunter can just take advantage of the deathrattle to kill their opponents faster.
I've been playing with it in a control mage deck—not freeze mage, but rather a secret-heavy deck (Duplicate, Counterspell, Ice Block, Mad Scientist, Kirin Tor Mage) with Ragnaros, Alexstrasza, Sylvanas, a bunch of sticky minions, a bunch of removal, etc. etc.
It's a fun card. It works quite well when you can turtle up behind Ice Block and a couple Sludge Belchers, and it's absolutely viable in the sense that I've won the vast majority of games I've played with this deck. Would the deck work without Executus? Yeah, definitely. It'd actually be slightly better with Dr. Boom instead. But only slightly better, and less entertaining, so whatever.
Try it out, it's fun. I wouldn't run Executus without two Ice Blocks, two Kirin Tor Mages, and two Mad Scientists, but otherwise I think you're pretty free to try whatever you like. Alexstrasza is not required, and I actually wouldn't recommend Ice Barrer (a bad card in anything but a pure combo deck). Be sure to pack some taunts though.
The only way I'd play this card is if I got it from Unstable Portal during the Mage Challenge or if it popped out of my Sneed's Old Shredder. Being reduced to 8 health is just too much of a downside, and being healed for a possible 7 health just isn't that big a deal. If you could aim the 8 damage, then maybe...but the card is just way too random for it's own good, since you usually don't control when Majordomo Executus dies.
I absolutely love how the card functions...reminds me of good ole 40 man MC raids! But that's the only thing I love about the card.
Thanks for the input. Dude, I usually play him once my opponent has used a significant amount of resources to take out sticky minions like the shredders, eggs, or cairne etc. to nullify the opponent from killing majordomo and killing me in one swoop. People even hesitate silencing him since they figure that they can eventually utilize him as significant 'face damage', but that's when you pull out the shadowflame/void terror/twisting nether shenanigans and deal 8 dmg in the same turn.
It's fun, but I don't think he's entirely a gimmick card. He's just kinda situational
I run it in my priest deck. A lot of people are dumb and don't get that it reduces your HP to 8. Some shaman threw the kitchen sink at it trying to remove it and I won.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
I think it may be viable in decks that allow you to proc deathrattles before the creature dies. This would only work though, if you know you can get lethal next turn. So something like turn 9 -> majordomo turn 10-> reincarnate or feign death, clear board, hit face and use rag's hero power to win. Notice that those are a lot of conditions to make this viable, but yea otherwise I don't see it being playable at all, maybe in freeze as well like the above poster noted.
This is a freeze mage only card, I can't think of it being viable in any other class. It can be effective when the game is even or in your favor.
I deal condition is your opponent has you low on health but can't trigger your ice block the turn you play him. In that case you're guaranteed to transform into Rag with Iceblock still active. From there you can repeatedly frost nova/cone of cold/blizzard while you deal 8 damage repeatedly. If you some how top deck or saved up the ice barriers late, then your health starts to climb as you repeatedly clear the board. Obviously it helps to get Alexastra to raise your health to 15, but realistically at this phase of the game, if you have iceblock on, you'd rather just drop the opponents health than to heal yourself.
I'm still testing the card but it is still difficult to get a grasp on it (getting to t9 is quite difficult in ranked mode). So far testing shows that this card is good with classes with hero powers that have little to no affect(shaman and warrior's hero power) on the board. The 8 health is a problem without the ability to gain armor or immunity. In a competitive field this card fault can lose you a game but the upside is that it has to be killed first.
Lastly I noticed that this card is also a "win more" card which is almost impossible to use when you are behind. Only when you are in a stalemate with both hands exhausted will this card's effect truly shine.
Pro: 1. You can change your hero power if you need to affect the board (although it is still random) 2. Hero power does 8 damage
Cons: 1. Impossible to play behind. 2. With no armor available to all classes makes this card weak against spells (even with taunts on the board) 3. A "Win more" card. 4. Both hands need to be exhuasted to safely play this card.
Honorable mention: Even if your opponent doesn't kill majordomo you can still hit the their hero, kill majordomo yourself and use the heropower (which is something I noticed during testing) for a total of 17 damage.
Edit: So far I've been testing this card with Shaman and Warrior. I'm using a heavy control shaman and a control/turtle Warrior. With shaman your new hero power can reach lethal much quicker. With Warrior you can still gain armor with cards after you transform.
If you look closely, you can see this is a signature and not a comment. Why are you reading? Stop reading this. Did you read this too? Dang you must like reading.
ive been testing it with feign death and emperor thaurissan in a hunter deck, and haven't had too many plays where it's been viable yet. only really been able to use it effectively once, and it won me the game, but you really need that and the feign death in your hand before you play the emperor, otherwise its not really playable.
Yesterday I've won 2 games because the opponent played Majordomo, otherwise I would've lost, so yeah, the card wins you games if you watch it from that point of view
I think the bigger issue is BGH the 8 health wouldn't be as big of an issue because you have to spend 7 damage to kill it but when you kill it for free, the 7 health doesn't mean anything. Execute and equality to an extent too but that is class specific, I can't think of any other removal that can ignore the 7 health so hypothetically speaking he wouldn't be that unviable in a BGHless world

Yeah I just don't ever see this being useful. If he costed 8 mana and it was a battlecry then MAYBE. At least then you'd get to ping something.

Me: HAR HAR HAR IM RAGNOROS NOW!
Enemy: *does 8 damage incredibly easily. Wins.
Me: Shet. This card isn't viable.
Please try this deck, I just made it and Majordomo is the main win condition:

and a Majordomo Executus Handlock :

It is viable in gimmick decks where you want to make a fun Youtube/Trolden video, the one time it works perfectly and saves you from certain defeat.
