posted a message on Kathrena Winterwisp. Why is it bad?

The struggle with Kathrena is less about how you can/can't stack the deck to optimize her and more about how alley cat into crackling razormaw into a houndmaster will still lead to more wins than any turn 8 play with Kathrena.

posted a message on Why does Blizzard hate Hunter so much?

The problem is mostly hunter hero power. If hunter is ever "the best class" then by default they have more inevitable closing power than any other class. You can't taunt against hunter hero power. Your only real recourse is healing which is generally class gated.

I'm pretty confident that the hunter hero power was a mistake because of how badly it pigeon holes the class into aggressive/tempo archetypes which you don't ever really want them to be the best at because their hero power is THAT much better at closing the game than other aggressive decks.

posted a message on Is Patches the strongest card ever printed?

It's actually really difficult to assess Patches because that card's performance is heavily tied to the power level of other playable pirates.

When Patches was released and he was paired with Small Time Buccaneer, you basically ended up with 4/3 worth of stats on turn one for 1 Mana. The main offenders (rogue, shaman and warrior) all had efficient two Mana weapons to follow up.

In the Ungoro meta after Buccaneer was nerfed and Golaka Crawler was introduced the effective power level of Patches dipped as well. Even if Pirates were still top tier decks there were a variety of other options that we're not present in the Mean Streets meta.

In Knights of the Frozen throne Patches got some extra support in the form of Prince Keleseth (though pirate warrior took a hefty hit with war axe nerfs.) He sees play in decks that care about building wide boards like token druids and evolve shaman or Keleseth decks that exploit him being buffed and then pulled out like Rogue and Zoo warlock.

Overall, Patches is powerful but I wouldn't call him the most powerful card ever printed. That is an honor I believe belongs to release Undertaker because of it's baseline efficient stats and ability to singlehandedly win games from the 1 mana position. There's also about a 10 percent chance to draw Patches when you Mulligan 3 cards from your hand and then you're stuck with stonetusk boar while even in the mid to late game Undertaker was at minimum a 1 Mana 2/3 with no downside.

posted a message on Everyone's debating which new deck is the strongest, but I'm more bothered by Quest/Freeze Mage

Everyone can make an argument that x deck isn't fun to play against. Player A could claim that face aggro decks are unfun because they don't get to make meaningful late game decisions when they get run over early.

Player B could complain about midrange decks because all you need to do is curve out threats by counting from 1 to 8 and playing the highest Mana minion in your hand that lights up.

Player C could complain about control decks because they can freeze or taunt or heal to stall the games until their superior late game or burn or combo plan kills you.

Basically unless one of these strategies is way out of line with the others there really isn't a problem. Different players will prefer playing or playing against different strategies.

posted a message on New Warlock Card Revealed: Gnomeferatu

The answer is to just play any deck not entirely built around 1 card or a lengthy combo. Do you think pirate warrior cares when you remove a random card off the top? Even if you destroy a tirion or tarim in paladin, they could potentially generate more or rely on other mid game threats. This card only really affects combo decks and even then, how many games are you going to burn a random utility card like ice barrier, earthen scales or backstab instead of Alexstrazsa or Antonidas or gadgetzan auctioneer or their last Jade idol?

The card is pretty aggressively statted so we'll probably see it but in a lot of matches you're literally playing river crocolisk.

posted a message on Why are people talking so much about meta/ competitive deck?
    Quote from HibouDesBois >>

I don't understand people that only play standard/ netdecks / competitive decks in hearthstone.

The game being extremely rng & luck-based, is anything but a serious competitive game.

You want to be competitive tryhard pro wannabe? Play starcraft 2 or cs:go, both games ten times harder than hearthstone, no luck in these games.

Play Hearthstone to have fun, wild or standard, but dont always bring "competitive" argument in a non-competitive game please.

If you're playing ranked ladder in any game you have to anticipate people doing whatever they can to win; that's true of a moba or an FPS or an RTS or a card game. There's a reason every streamer hits legend every season and it's not because they won more coin flips than the average HS player. It's that if you build your deck a certain way and play it a certain way you gain a statistical advantage in winning over the course of many games. You come into this discussion with the perspective that the game is more about expressing your own ideas (through deckbuilding) and that's a wonderful way to play a game with as many options as hearthstone. The thing is, any game that features people playing against other people will ALWAYS inspire some level of competitiveness regardless of how skill intensive it is.
If you're playing casual mode I agree with you though. There's no reason to bring bland decks like aggro shaman or dragon warrior to a format that should be more about experimentation.

posted a message on Is the Shaman meta going to change?

It's obviously tough to say but one of the big reasons why it will be tough to make this style of shaman deck work is that your primary healing card is sort of weirdly situational. The card on its own is really cool, but it is a legendary and basically a combo card with aoe clears that also depends on your opponent having enough minions out to really benefit from it. I mean, is Ascendent + lightning bolt going to be enough on a regular basis to save you from a deck like freeze mage when it has no minions on board? Will the right play be to dump a bunch of minions out and blow them up with destruction + ascended to heal? Will that be fast enough against decks with combo finishers?

I like the card, I just think it needs a bit more support to flourish.

posted a message on Why nerf a card that NEVER sees play? (Master of Disguise)

The problem is it actively limits how good they can make persistent positive nondamaging effects.

I think it would be cool if they made the card a 4/5 with one turn of stealth effect.

posted a message on The Lady Liadrin offer: The Worst Idea Possible

There are a couple mobs that evade if you attack them, this does NOT produce the phenomenon you described where "you get attacked by 20+ mobs and die." What I believe is likely is the following. You attacked a monster from a high ledge. When you attack a monster from a position that the engine cannot initially devise a straight line path from the monster to you the monster will evade. This is a mechanic in place to prevent people from positioning themselves on top of random ledges, kill an entire zone's worth of mobs without actually engaging in combat.

If you jump from a ledge or attack an enemy from a high ledge your pet will attempt to position itself near you or the enemy mob respectively but your pet cannot jump down high ledges the same way that other mobs cannot climb them. What happens is your pet will path down the only way it can. The path it takes may run it by dozens of enemy mobs. Once your pet has aggroed the mobs both you and your pet are registered on the mobs aggro tables. Once your pet dies you are the only thing left on the mobs aggro tables so they will come to attack. Although this design is not the most user friendly, there is no bug here. This is a design feature that has been present in the game (and makes Gnomeregan runs with new players infuriating) since it has been a game.

As many other players have stated, your goal is to be the first person to hit a mob to get kill credit. If the nameplate is greyed out you won't get credit for killing it. With the Liadrin promotion ongoing beginner zones are VERY crowded with people trying to get their new HS cosmetic. On the other hand, if you invite some of the other people to a party who are in the area you ALL get credit for every kill that takes place so a savvy group of beginners can clear through quests five times faster (and tag five times as many mobs) than they could by themselves.

As far as navigation goes a lot of it has been changed for the better. The game gives you a quest that introduces you to flight masters. You can fly from Stormwind to Ironforge which if you just look at the in game map is a LOT closer to Loch Modan than Stormwind. The quests give you blue circles on your map that tell you exactly where mobs spawn. Looking for them really shouldn't have been a major issue if you press M and walk to the blue circles.

posted a message on Anyone else all but quit HS in favor of Duelyst?

I played duelyst and didn't really enjoy it. I enjoy strategy games but I like to separate them from card games. I like HS for handling like a true card game and I like games like Fire Emblem or Xcom for being strategy games.

posted a message on What's YOUR Favorite Card of LoE wing 1?

I really like Djinni of Zephyrs in priest. The card has been SO satisfying when it works and a 4/6 for 5 holds up pretty well on it's own. Even hitting Power Word: Shield on another minion is nuts since you get to draw two cards and put 4 health on your minions for 1. If priest gets one more good buff card like pws the deck archetype with Fjola Lightbane, Eydis Darkbane and Dragonkin Sorcerer in a dragon priest shell could be really good.

Reno Jackson is quickly becoming the card of the set. He beats up on aggro strategies so badly by giving you that "extra life" so to speak. I think the long term cost of running a deck without duplicates will catch up to him but his ability to force aggro decks face first into the mud and to provide a true anti aggro tech card is great.

Dark Peddler is the last really noteworthy one for me. The card is just solid in zoo. It really smooths out the deck at certain spots. Getting an extra Power Overwhelming or Soulfire to close out a game is effective, but it's picking up the quirky but good cards like Bloodsail Corsair or a critical Goldshire Footman that is most satisfying to me. Getting standbys like Flame Imp or Abusive Sergeant is great too.

    Recycle FeelsBadMan.

I'm happy for priest though this is a card that can really work for Deathlord fatigue priest where you snatch a threat off your opponent's board and put it in your deck. In control v control matchups the card is crazy. In Priest v Aggro the card is REALLY bad so I think it's fine overall.

posted a message on New Hunter Card - Desert Camel

This card will be a new Mad Scientist level card for midrange hunter I think. Drawing a Webspinner out of your deck and putting it into play is very strong and many decks don't run 1 drop minions. Could hurt if Zombie Chow becomes more popular than it is right now though. It is too slow for face hunter though.

posted a message on Fix (buff) Big Game Hunter to ignore your own minions

Before that can we make Secretkeeper not proc on enemy spells. They changed Eaglehorn Bow to work the same way and that interaction is far more degenerate than not being able to play a Jungle Panther when you have a Dr. Boom out.
