I've been playing Wild quite a bit recently after a long time of playing only Standard. After playing for a few weeks, I've realized that there is so little deck variety that it hurts me. At least 70% of what I face is Secret/N'Zoth Paladins, Midrange Hunters, Aggro Shamans, and Tempo Mages. Occasionally I'll get something different, but it's not too common. I've found that I enjoy Wild quite a bit, but it just hurts my enjoyment when I only see 4 classes all the time.
This made me think about the future of the Wild format. Where in Standard you get large meta shifts with each expansion and massive meta shifts with rotations, Wild sees little to no change with each new expansion. There are occasionally cards that shake up the wild meta, like N'Zoth, but they are few and far between.
What I will be interested to see is if Blizzard has any plans to keep the Wild meta in check. For example, if they make more cards that support a Standard secret paladin, it might push Wild secret paladin into nearly unbeatable territory. Or if they make another hunter or shaman spell that can be used as burst, it might push Wild aggro to be unstoppable.
What do you guys think? Do you think Blizzard will try to keep it in check, or let it truly run "wild"? Because facing the same OP decks all the time doesn't sound too Wild to me.
This is just the nature of eternal formats. If you want to play with all the cards, there will be very little variation.
Now if wild had something like a monthly rotation where X number of random sets were allowed at once, that would be more interesting, at least for a while until all the combinations get solved.
Ehh.. So you see more class being played in standard? Same face shaman, hunter, tempo mage, dragon warrior, yogg druid, zoo 99% of my games.Add to that, they even play the same net deck. You cant be creative, because the card pool so small, and it not getting any bigger due rotation. At least in wild you can have your homebrew deck, especially in next rotation when the card pool in wild will be massively greater than standard.
This seems a bit weird to me, i play both wild and standard - but I'm not facing that much secret paladin (I'm facing around 35% secret pala atm and 25 % Hunters) If you face that much secret paladin and midrange hunter you should play a counterdeck to beat em up :P I'm seeing a lot of Patron Warrior, Reno decks and Control priest's - What ranks are you playing at? :)
Yeah, I'm not sure I can echo this sentiment. I've definitely run into my share of Secret Paladin, Midrange Hunter, Aggro Shaman, and Tempo Mage, but I've also run into Mech Mage, Freeze Mage, Anyfin Paladin, Zoo, Renolock, Control Warrior, Dragon Warrior, Patron, Control Priest, Midrange/Evolve Shaman, Beast Druid, Spell Druid and N'Zoth Rogue. I will say most Shaman you see is aggro, and you do see very little Druid or Rogue. Druid and Rogue typically have a very hard time against Secret Paladin with their weaker AoE and removal options, but I don't think their has been any day that I haven't seen at least 5-6 different decks even in as little as 10 games. Maybe that's just my luck, IDK. I think Wild is in a pretty good place, and while its true there are some very established decks, nothing is so good its the only viable option.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.
Op: secret pally & midrange hunter are the best deck in the wild "meta", and people want better deck to climb, so these two decks will be the most popular.
However, from rank 25-5, you can probably play roughly 30-40 semi viable decks and have a good winrate.
Saying there are only 5 decks that dominate in wild is absolutely absurd.
Aggro Shaman is extremely easy to play, but it's weaker than N'zoth Priest (control variant), Renolock, Patron, CW for example.
Also, if no eater of secrets, freeze mage is top 3 deck in the game.
The deck you are talking about are all strong, but only two are crazy good.
Mtg suffers from the same issues in Modern and Legacy. These eternal formats soon discover the best decks and the players refine playing them and then the meta stagnates badly. You can regularly ban/nerf cards like Wizards of the Coast do in modern but you alienate players who invest in decks - which in Magic is often thousands of dollars.
I have some ideas on how to both avoid metagame stagnation and avoid alienating players at the same time - but for now I am keeping them to myself.
I see a lot of Priests on the Wild Ladder, and I play a N'Zoth Druid (sometimes a Mech Mage as well) when I'm playing the Wild Ladder. I do see some Face Hunters sometimes, but rare do I see a Paladin at all.
I agree with op's list except I see more priests than shamans (it's the same shaman list in standard why not just play it there after all).
but I have noticed more 'wild cards' especially in hunter lists, a lot more spicey options. in wild you get more curve balls so to speak which I think is good and keeps things interesting

Right now I'm playing at ranks 9-12. Playing Renolock because I love it, so it's my own fault for losing to hunters lol

Ah okay, I'm playing around 3-4 so the meta might be a lil bit different - also renolock is fun ;) I personally love Reno Malygos decks :D
it's different for me, i like Wild because in my personal meta, it's an Invasion of priests of all flavors, copy/pure control/n'zoth/steal/Dragon/Reno/summoning stone and that random guy that was playing priest with the sole purpose of resurrecting doomsayers, i do get matched against Secret Pala from time to time, but there's a lot of more variety than when i go to shammantandard.
Wild will balance by itself. By balance, I mean that broken decks will come, stay, and then get defeated by other broken decks. The cycle will keep going.
Im sure that future expansions/adventures will give enough good tools for all 9 classes one day that each of them will have at least one broken deck in Wild mode.
If it wasnt for asshole fucking Paladins, Wild would be perfect. But, from rank 10 all the way down there are too many of them. Fucking dicks. Secret dooshbag Paladin. Its a sad reminder how fucking sick and OP that deck is. Any single cell organism could win with that deck.
My Wild experience has been almost universally just a crushing romp as Freeze Mage. I think that in the last 50 or so games I've lost at most like 10 times with it. Granted, I don't play a whole lot outside of grinding out dailies, but still. I've always gotten the impression that Priest, Paladin, Warrior, Mage, and to a lesser extent Hunter all have excellent options to excel in the format, most of which revolve around N'Zoth. I feel like aggro Shaman makes sense to a certain extent, as it's just a fine deck, though it's actually marginally worse in Wild than Standard due to the slight nerf to Tuskarr Totemic by way of Vitality Totem, though the inclusion of Crackle more than compensates. Other decks gain a whole lot more and lose nothing, though. Honestly it seems like most classes get decent representation, though Druid and Rogue seem the most marginalized.
I do. That's why I made a thread to discuss it.....and quite a few people replied, which leads me to assume that at least some of them are concerned too...... thanks for your input though.

And I care as well. Time to ignore yet another poster who has no clue what he or she is talking about.

4 aggro shamans in a row to start the day , Thanks Kripparian!

So yeah - they MUST get rid of MC.... MUST.....
I win due to skill and lose due to bad RNG. :D
There is a lot of decks that work well in wild, and it is way easier to counter the meta.
But no, I won't give any tips. The netdecking crap can stay in standard. Experiment, there are some good old classics that work absolute wonders.
no one cares about wild balance
