As a combo player since I began playing hs (used to play only oil and freeze), i've always hated hunter. Actually, i don't hate aggro, because I used to play it and it's beneficial for that easy climbing to rank 5. When you're rank 5, you generally use other decks like jade druid, renos (mostly renolock because warlock hero power is the best in the game), shaman (generally with the midrange version because aggro runs out of steam pretty quickly), and pirate miracle rogue (my favorite class is rogue btw, as you could already say). (forgot about pirate warrior and pirate dragon warrior to get those free wins against jade druid and to try to burst renos before they get those insane heals).
Hunter and Paladin died because the handbuff archetype is just too weak compared to jade golem cards and kabal cards. Hunter, even with some awesome cards like rat pack, is just so slow. What an ironic way for a class to be the worst today, the king of the SMorcs and one of the best midrange decks of the history of hs that was very good because of the hunter hero power, being although midrangy, very fast.
After reaching rank 5 this season in standard, I decided, then, to play hunter in wild and I discovered the way to make HUNTERS GREAT AGAIN.
In two days, I reached rank 3 with a reinvented version of face hunter, using pirates, and i've come to a conclusion that hunters need a two mana weapon to make its ressurgeance in the meta.
Glaveizooka, although not op, gave me insane fast hands, killing opponents in turn 4, what's broken, in my oppinion.
Another way to make hunters go over the top is giving them more recovery mechanisms like board clears (explosive traps aren't quick enough to help you survive against those aggro shamans and pirate warriors).
Thank you for seeing this post, hope you have a great day and give us your opinion on the topic.
Not a hunter player, been playing mostly renolock, renomage, pirate warrior (got to rank 5 with it because it's so frustrating to have an awesome win with reno decks and then lose those stars to 2 minute game where you get outrun, die on turn 5 before reno or just can't get it because you're mostly, unlucky), and pirate miracle rogue, a deck that some call bullshit, but I love it.
Forgot to mention that hunter, naturally a face/midrangy class because of its hero power, never got cards that could create new archetypes and survived from its strong class cards and from the release of expasions with cards like undertaker (hunter was bullshit back in the day, now it's just overclassed by shaman and warrior, feelsbadman).
So glad you posted this. I am a big time hunter player and pally player +400 wins in both classes.
I was just saying the exact same thing to my friend that is in hs about hunter. If we had glaivezooka then at least we could run patches pirate pack.
However, the more important point is that hunter lacks a solid clear card. Explosive trap is a passive clear card. Every other class has solid clear cards some of them have multiple (like shaman...) or priest or mage. I think hunter needs a card like swipe. Blizzard should look at druid for more inspiration on how to craft the hunter class moving forward.
Make Control Paladin great again! (And just leave hunter the way it is, the first time of my life I enjoy the ladder without these SMOrcs). Srsly, I mean other Aggro decks are annoying too sometimes, but I just get instantly pissed when I see hunter. And that "midrange"-Hunter was also just face never trade, just with larger, sticky minions which can sneak in damage every turn. Against hunter I'm like scared of every damage happening to my face, 30 hp is just not enough. And the deck is just so incredibly easy to play, it blows my mind. I really don't see the problem of hunter being weak.

It's not a problem, I mean, one class needs to be sandbagon of the expansion, and those are paladin and hunter.
Paladin has at least two decks, while hunter has literally zero. No one plays hunter.
What blows my mind is that they needed literally just a two cost weapon.
It's more consistent than any grimy goon deck and the only decent way i've found to play hunter. This deck's been greatly improved(it used to be ok before karazhan) with cards like mistress of tixtures, Piranha Launcher, Bomb Squad and Dirty Rat.
Hope this inspires you folk with a decent collection a new, different and viable idea of how to play hunter, cause atm it's been sad for my favorite class.
Oh and i'm still thinking about Azure Drake, maybe it's the card that least fits.
I'd honestly like to blame blizzard for the amount of shitty design choices they made for the hunter class in hs history. Hunter literally survived with classic cards in its never changing face and midrange decklists. Always savannahs for late game, always webspinner for early. The house started to fall as soon as standard took in, then blizzard realized they had no idea what hunter was supposed to be and started spitting tokens, weird card replacement mechanics, most of which have no use in any deck.
And perhaps the most unforgivable mistake was not giving hunters a chance to deal 4 dmg with each hp with Justicar Trueheart. Or not making Brave Archer's effect read like Inspire: deal 2 damage. It could literally open space to a board control centric hunter that didn't need big minions to kill opponents, rather it could kill just from tapping hero power every turn. And their miserly excuse was that hutner would be too strong with a hero power just as strong as the other classes'. ;^D
But ye, we got the Grimy goons mechanic, however blizzard just forgot one small basic thing for decks like these to work: Grimestreet Outfitter being a neutral, not a class specific minion. That card is just fundamental for hand buff paladin, and hand buff decks wont work without it. Why? Because it's a minion that can be buffed by hand buffing spells and other minions and it is a cheap way to give a universal buff to all cards in your hand. In short, it makes the buffing not exaggerated and more consistent, not like the hand-buffing cards warrior and hunter got.
The other problem is that Hand-buff decks are naturally inconsistent, because they give information about your hand to your opponent and you just might be clogged up with spells and weapons.
2 of the most powerful decks in the meta being aggro apparently aren't enough for some people. When a class's niche isn't being filled is when we miss it. For example, Priest's unique abilities being unviable was really unhealthy for the meta. There was no other class filling the role priest fills. That isn't the case with hunter. Unless you have something to offer hunter players that isn't more face burn and charge minions, i think most are content owith the class as is. In the grave.
Also worth noting is that Blizzard seems to unhappy with the amount of the pirate package on ladder. I think they expected in rogue and warrior, shaman is a bit too much. Hunter would on top of that would be ridiculously annoying. You are more likely to see some form of nerf to the pirates than a 2 mana weapon for hunters imo. Amazing though that people are disappointed that there isn't more cancer ladder.
This is precisely the reason hunter will not see a 2 mana weapon until fall 2017 at the earliest.
hunter causes the losers to cry the loudest, so it will never get good cards, even if every classix/basic hunter cards is given waRsong commander treatment

Hunter was supposed to be the SMorc class with its hero power, not warrior. Warrior was supposed to be a control heavy class, but instead, because of freaking jade golems, it returned to the past where it was played as aggro because of its bullshitty weapons.
I expected seeing amazing cards like rat pack that hunter would be at least viable, but the handbuff mechanic just sucks. I don't think pirates will be nerfed, but hunter needs that 2 mana weapon from two expansions. It lacks card draw, and instead has its annoying hero power, but as aggro shaman took it's crown, the hunter class became more of a midrange focused deck, instead of its SMorc counterpart.
If only jade golems didn't become a thing, warrior would be mostly control, with pirate decks in tier 2. Renos would take the meta, and how ironic, reno jackson is the reason pirates are being played, as they can kill them before they get the card.
Hunter always survived from its class cards and mostly adventures. And yet again, they gave hunters no cards to build new archetypes.
I'm not complaining, I don't give a shit about hunter being pure shit, I just think that what they did with shaman and warrior caused all this bullshit. Face decks should exist to balance control greedy decks, and Hunter was supposed to be that class naturally because of its hero power. That's my point. Giving it a two mana weapon or giving more control tools that aren't passive oriented like their traps is needed.
I actually don't hope that Hunter gets a 2 mana weapon... Hunter is even more irritating when it's strong, and as you can see from Wild it gets completely broken when you give it a 2 mana weapon. :P I just want Blizzard to give it card draw or some form of heal/control tool, Combo Hunter is actually not that bad - it just loses to Pirate Warrior because it has no way of gaining health... :(

Yes, I think that a two mana weapon would make hunter at least top tier 2 with pirates. But having a reliable and not passive board clear would release new archetypes, what's good for the class, as it's been always midrangy/aggro, that's why it sucks and it's not on meta, because you can't face anymore against those annoying decks, nor control and build a taunt/good board. Having something like better than those traps that are getting slow these days to control the board to compensate the fact that you doesn't have heals would make hunters at least playable.
Every class should have cviable control. Thats hunters problem you have to go face. If it had some proper control cards then it can have a deck that would have more of a developed strategy.
It would have been nice for the new gadetzan secret cards for mage were given to hunter.
It would be as well still if it were what the standard for aggro was now. That's what people who are glad that Hunter is garbage tier don't realize. They are letting their own personal bias against Hunter get in the way. his is why their suggestions and "feedback" frankly should be ignored altogether. Face Hunter was famous for "turn 7 lethal" and that was when the Hunter had the perfect draw. Tell me, how many games against aggro now GET to turn 7? There are several factors as to why this happens as well. One factor that the people who despise Hunter regardless if they're even good in the meta or not fail to realize is that now only has aggro gotten faster but, because of 1, 2, and 3 drops getting a major power creep, have gotten more durable. 1 drops, for instance, now have 2 or 3 health which means that you're going to have to spend a lot of resources removing that 1 minion. When Hunters were the go to aggro deck their minions had very low health and were very easy to remove. This meant that if you have any kind of AoE at all (even Arcane Explosion) you would wipe the Hunter's board and stabilize. This gave you a LOT of room to then begin getting health back, build your own build of larger minions that the Hunter couldn't deal with, etc. You simply can't do that against aggro now-a-days. Mid-range Hunters really need it the most though, but since minion based combat is almost completely non-existent (due to the proliferation of AoEs and cards like Reno Jackson making minion pressure irrelevant) that is going ot be extremely difficult to do without some MAJOR overhauls and not just to Hunters either.

I say we dance on Rexxars grave for what he put us through in the face hunter meta. . .
Let Hunter be where he is, I already have had enough of aggro shamans always getting Hunter hero power no need more of it.
That's right aggro decks should exist but should not be a T1. T3 - ok; T2 - well, ok but not too much of them; T1 - nope
Blizzard should try to keep any face oriented decks outside of Tier 1, that's how you make a healthy meta
