Hearthside Chat: Echo w/ Peter Whalen - Two New Witchwood Cards Revealed
Peter Whalen has revealed two new Echo cards in a new Hearthside Chat video which goes over the new Echo mechanic.
Echo cards return a copy of themselves to your hand on the same turn they’re played, so if you have the mana required, you can play them again and again!

Warpath is gonna be meta in control decks, MUCH more better than Ravaging Ghoul
I have to disagree, depending on how it works with the other cards in the expansion of course. Just comparing it outright, ravaging ghoul provides a 3/3 body, and Warpath is a 2 mana whirlwind that you can play multiple times. Warrior, generally speaking, has enough whirlwind effects and board clear, and aside from a fatigue deck, you generally don't want to be spending an entire turn just casting whirlwind, right? But definitely could work out as a meta card, just depends on how the rest of the expansion works around it I think.
I think Face Collector could see play. It's a risky card, but a 2/2 on turn 3 isn't a terrible drop; it would be a poor drop, but you are getting the chance of receiving a powerful legendary.
So echo means nothing to you?
Adding a random legendary to your hand can be fun, and can definitely work out sometimes... But more often than not you will end up with something bad, or something bad for your specific situation, which is why I do not think there's much chance this card will show up in competitive decks. If the card read "Discover a legendary minion"... Well then we'd be talking :P
In an aggro meta, no, you cannot wait to play this card until turn 5(coin), 6, 8(coin) or 9. But in a control situation, why not? Also, it is not a bad card to play on turn 3, without the coin, as it is a 3 mana 2/2 Draw a Card, which is not extraordinarily overpowered but about the correct cost for what you get. If you draw this in the late game though it will be pretty fantastic, but only if you are in control.
Though, come to think of it, if you manage to play three copies of this card on turn 9 without dying on the next turn you are probably winning already and that would make this card practically useless. Big woop, you got three legendaries in your hand for a game that is already a lock for you to win. I mean, 9 mana for three 2/2's? If you have the freedom to do that then you are clearly winning already. Same goes for turn 6, if you can afford to spend 6 mana for 2 2/2's then, again, you are in a winning position. If you are losing or even still struggling for control of the board this card is bad news.
Shadowstep, Youthful Brewmaster, Ancient Brewmaster, and The Caverns Below say "hi!"
Ahh right, Echo is quest Rogue's dream come true
Each new expansion, each new warrior card: "Deal 1 damage to all minions". Ez clap
That's the result of having a combo-heavy class where all the combo cards revolve around the same effect. K&C tried to change things up with armour instead at least.
(On a more serious note, I think Warpath is insane for Warrior)
Well I mean Defile need you to do some weird setup, while warpath has a lot more flexibility. you may kill off a 2 health taunt, then trade your minion into a huge guy and then finish off couple of more ticks, while defile have to go all out in one go...
Thing about Warpath is that it is kinda
2 mana Whirlwind
Or 4 mana Volcanic Potion
Or 6 mana Hellfire which doesn't hit face
Or 8 mana Flamestrike with downside
Or 10 mana Felfire Potion that doesn go face
Or 10 mana Dragonfire Potion that also kills dragons
Or 8-10 mana Elemental Destruction which paid upfront instead of overload.
Or a card that is not better than DK Hero Power.
But the flexibility that it can be any of those thing in single card is pretty nice... Also has insane synergy with spell power (though I suppose so does Defile but not other aoe)
I agree. First of all, Defile is truly insane. I think at 3 mana it would still see a lot of play, and at 4 mana it could be considered (but would become slightly worse than Hellfire).
On the other hand, Defile does nothing against a board created by an Emerald Spellstone, whereas for 6 mana Warpath gives you the clear (even killing the Cat in a Hat behind the Cat Trick)
The flexibility of echo card is quite big in general, but in this case the low mana cost, the AOE being "tailorable" for each matchup, and the Warrior "on damage" synergies really make Warpath a great card.
Can we have a count down before next reveal on the front page?
I cannot wait for more fluffies, Flux :)
Both of these card are amazing. You can think of Warpath as an expensive Defile. It's 100% playable because it goes into control/DMH warrior, which doesn't mind spending an entire turn just clearing the board. And speaking of DMH warrior, Warpath doesn't get removed by Skulking Geist (which is part of DMH warrior, most of the time). If you wanted to, you could shuffle more into your deck, and have board clears until the end of time. You don't even have trouble finding space for it: It replaces Brawl, which can often be tough to discard in certain matches. That being said, I'm calling Warpath meta-defining. I wish we had it now...
It also combos well with Acolyte of Pain, when you really want the full draw 3.
Maybe it's just me not knowing how rogue works, but if you play Face Collector for an entire turn and refill your hand with legendaries, (most of which are, at the very least, well-statted,) and then Shadowstep it, it's perfectly fine to hold onto your 10 mana "add 4 legendaries to your hand and summon 4 2/2s" until a safe time. Kinda like playing Sprint, but sometimes it gives you an extra Leeroy Jenkins or Deathwing or Millhouse Manastorm. If nothing else, it's just better Prince Malchezaar
People really need to stop classifying Warpath as a bad Whirlwind, or doing direct card comparisons...
Echo's ability to conserve deck space and create flexible mana usage needs to be valued at an increased mana cost, otherwise 1-mana Whirlwind w/ Echo would be ridiculous.
Warpath also needed to be valued in conjunction with the existing set. If Warrior had 2x Whirlwind and 2x Warpath (where it was 1 mana w/ Echo) and all the other typical AOE, it would have way too much efficient AOE removal for a Warrior class deck.
Comparing it directly to Mage removal is also not fair, as most Mage spell removal is supposed to be more mana efficient than other classes. There's a reason Hunter doesn't have an equivalent of 2x Frostbolt + 2x Fireball + 2x Explosive Runes. Or, why Priest doesn't have 2x Blizzard + 2x Meteor + 2x Flamestrike...
(Also, just in general, we need more cards to fairly evaluate Warpath...)
I think Warpath might have some potential. I mean it is 1 mana higher than Whirlwind but it is reusable and good against aggro clearing pally recruits and other small buffed nuisances while possibly enraging your own cards in the process. The odds to me of someone actually holding on to it for a turn 10 5 damage to all possible board clear seems low and I definitely don't see putting 2 of these in a deck. Guess we'll have to wait and see what other tricks warrior has up it's sleeve as more cards are released to make a full judgement on it.
