Thing is... Eternal is the perfect blend of Hearthstone and MTG. So, it’s just right.
im interested in MTG Arena but the f2p model in Eternal is the best in a CCG and I have a feeling getting cards in MTG Arena will be expensive or too slow a pace
You can grind Eternals AI for a better income than winning HS 30 game limit and daily quest in like an hour give or take. Plus a free pack a day and more
OP can't be taken seriously because of the reference code and the thread should have been locked. The game itself is the best ccg there is, but you don't come out promoting the game with a reference code.
The better is to eliminate power (mana) cards and limit the taunt like self healing minions Part of the game (some find TESL good for that reason). Closer to free to play, although higher value cards take longer to get and are often stronger than in HS. Less major one sided wipeout cards so it has more a board game nature than HS has where the best player regularly gets wiped out of his win.
Locked for what exactly? This is the right section of the forums for this thread and referral links are allowed on this site as long as you don't spam it. The only things that should be locked are the months old threads you're necroing to post irrelevant stuff on

What you describe is called Hearthstone and TESL. If you don't like the resource system nor the attack/defense system, then Eternal and Magic like games are not for you. Eternal is extremely F2P friendly. You can check the game's reddit and you will see several people who started recently, are F2P and made it to Master (equivalent of Legend rank in HS).
Greetings. So I played this game for a few weeks now and have some feedback. I thought it would be a good time for a review since the HS meta gets stale right before an expansion comes out, and people are typically pulling their hair out over how bad some of the newly revealed cards are. Thus I post to the 'other games' subforum for a respite.
Anyway, this Eternal game is set in a sort of Firefly world with a mix of fantasy, technology, and wild west. Various heroes vie for control of a throne (yeah, reused yet again)
Format: This game is similar to MtG. It is defender's choice - the defending player picks which units engage which. Thus, there is only one attack phase per turn - all minions attack simultaneously. Minions that sustain damage recover all HP at the end of the turn. There are fast spells - spells/minions you can cast as a surprise, even on the enemy turn. One advantage this format has is it blunts the 'face rush' strategy as the attacker tends to pay the higher price for aggression at the whim of the defender.
ManaSystem: There are no classes, any deck can use any cards and your hero is just a pretty picture you choose. Mana comes in 5 colors with cards requiring a certain color or colors to be played. Like HS, you can normally only increase power once per turn. There are also cards that grant dual colors and effects that increase colors without raising the power level.
Deck Configuration: Decks in Eternal have 75 total cards. This may seem like a lot, but consider that 25 to 30 of those are mana generators. Now consider that you play 2-4 of each staple card, and that gives you a deck of about 10-20 unique cards, excluding mana generators.
Keywords: Eternal has the same familiar keywords as HS, but has some new ones as well. There is deadly(poisonous), charge, lifesteal, entomb(deathrattle), all work the same. Ultimate allows you to pay mana one time to upgrade a fielded minion. Warp allows you to see and play the top card of your deck as if it was in hand. Ageis works as a divine shield against spells (including AoE), and minion effects.
Weapons: Like HS, your hero can wield weapons. The weapons include an attack rating and added armor. The weapon may target any enemy unit, but may not hit face unless there are no units. Weapons are destroyed if the hero's armor drops to zero. The weapon can thus hit face forever, small targets a few times, or one big target destroys it. It can also be destroyed just by taking damage without ever being used.
Void (Graveyard): In Eternal, cards that are used or discarded, and slain minions are not gone, they can be recovered. The game has effects to summon minions and cast spells from your void - the place where all dead minions and used spells go. Minions that have had their stats buffed retain those buffs even in the void or returned to your hand - stat buffs are also not impacted by silence.
Rewards:At the beginning, there are quite a few rewards, especially if you join on referral link, which is advised because of free extra packs and decks. Your first PvP win every 24 hours provides you a card pack. Every pack has a mix of commons, a couple rares, and one of either an epic or a legendary. You may also use gold to buy theme decks - this is like deck recipes for basic builds, except you get all the cards for the deck too. Same goes for the paid entry draft formats - you keep what you draft.
Thanks for reading. It's a fun game, graphics and artwork are first rate, and the gameplay has a lot of depth to it. Give it a try if you are stuck inside somewhere and tired of facing Machine Gun Anduin. This is my referral link. There are others in the thread as well, just be sure you use one of them as you get bonuses for doing so. https://www.direwolfdigital.com/eternal/register/?ref=d66906f1-4a8d-4d41-a14d-8d4d9b10b36b

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
Awesome write up, and I think Eternal is a much better game than HS. It's sad, because HS could be much better if Blizzard's target market was not for casuals etc.
Really interesting. I think after I'll complete my seasonal goal in Gwent I will try this one. I was looking for something like MTG for a long time and all latest online MTG implementations were utter shit. HS and even TES:L are both too simplified and casual.

I don't think you can go wrong with Eternal. Get on the bandwagon as we are getting a new set soon, so you could try to get master in Gauntlet/Forge before the new set launches so that you can get the rank up rewards again. And if you need, check the referral link on my signature for some free extra deck and packs.
Started playing this game a couple weeks after kft released and I was just kind of done with Hearthstone. I loved the game initially, but wanted to wait after the honey-moon phase with the game was up. I gotta say, I think I love it a little more now.
The game did such a good job of integrating as many of the mtg mechanics as possible, but getting rid of the really complicated stuff that makes mtg inaccessible and hard to translate to online gaming. Excellent F2P model, Incredible depth, tons of interesting mechanics to play around with. My favorite thing has to be the decks being 75+ cards tall. Couple that with the fact that there are no classes (you can put any card in the game in any deck), and its a deck builder's wet dream! A 300 card set is coming out soon so there has been no better time to join and claim the very generous rewards. Pretty sure the game is growing, which is saying something when you consider that its one glaring flaw has to be that the game is not marketed very well. That and the limited lore up to this point.
I really enjoy the game's fantasy world as well. Think Lord of the Rings, meets 3:10 to Yuma, with a little bit of Jurassic Park. Edit: Also got a little bit of technology in there, kind of like WoW
I'm getting really into this game now. I'll probably always play Hearthstone, but this game is really getting a lot of my attention now.
I don't get the comments about this game being in trouble when MTG Arena is out, MTG has had digital versions before that hasn't really set the world on fire on top of how much cheaper Eternal will be to play compared to a MTG game.

A huge part of the reason for MtG's previous online versions not creating much buzz has actually been the games themselves; MtG Online requires exclusively real-money investing, and where you don't even get physical cards that you own, and Duels of the Plainswalkers has LONG been complained about from a features standpoint, and the last version that game out, just called Duels I think, that one outright changed rules of the game.
The model for Arena is basically that of Hearthstone's, and as I understand it's supposed to properly translate Magic the Gathering onto the computer instead of changing random stuff. There's plenty of reason to suspect it will perform MUCH better than previous online version. =P
That said it doesn't mean other games will be in trouble and I intend to try lots of different CCGs in the coming months, so I'll probably give this one a shot. ^_^

Fair enough. I've never actually played MTG. Just going off stuff I've read about the online versions.

I mainly play Eternal but, I do daily quests in Hearthstone so I have some gold stocked up for expansions
Hearthstone ladder rewards and game win rewards suck, so I don’t play long and my game money goes to Eternal where my dollar gets much better value
Yep I agree with you about the bad reward system in Hearthstone. It's just bad compared to other card games out there, and I hope it changes in the future.
Thinking of Eternal....I need to build a new deck featuring cards from the Dusk Road.
I'm loving this game more and more everyday! That and Faeria are taking a lot more of my free time lately :)
My son just started playing, so if someone needs a referral link:

This game is awesome. And i can finally play it on my phone!
Now i'll play less HS and more Eternal :)
Whats better, Shadowverese or Eternal?
The only Similar game I have played is hearthstone, eternal gets linked to Magic, but that means nothing to me...
