I just don’t see how this class is seen as being ok in the current meta of standard and blizz are just happy to leave them untouched.
The nerf to sword of the fallen has had basically no change to their win rate, with some secret paladin decks averaging a staggering 75% win rate!
This class has everything from good draw, board flood, heals, overpowered secrets, and taunts. Both Secret and Aggro Paladin decks have no counter, and just seem to have an answer to everything.
I can’t see how blizzard are just happy to leave them dominating the meta in their current state, it’s just boring and discouraging for people trying to be creative and do something different!
Do we thing there will be an impending nerf to Paladins? Unless there are some planned buffs coming to other cards I can’t see how this can continue.
I quite enjoy playing against Paladin. It feels a very skill rewarding class to play against at the moment. Setting aside the time they draw the absolute nuts and just snowball out of control, that happens with plenty of decks, they don't generate tons of cards, you know what to expect and they have typically very readabke plays. You know what secrets they have and how to activate/not activate them. You know what buffs they have and they don't generate a ton of new ones that you can't plan for.
It's very strong but also feels fair, to me at least. My win rate against them is progressively getting better ad I learn when to trade, when not to, what removal to keep, what choices are better from a discover effect than others etc.
Ive also been playing a decent bit of rush warrior and I've found that absolutely eats them for breakfast. Being able to control the board is a huge deal and Samuro is a beast at clearing a decent board when you know they have avenge waiting to pop.
I feel FAR better about losing to Paladin than I do Tickatus. I rarely ever feel like I couldn't have done something differently and changed the outcome against Paladin but I'm often left feeling like I was just always going to lose against Tickatus and its win rate is way lower.
There will probably be another round of nerfs because people are bitching too much and Blizz don't like that.
Not sure the game in its current states needs another nerf though. There is the mini set coming, also a round of buffs. Let's just see what happens.
The nerf to sword of the fallen has had basically no change to their win rate
You do understand that when a card is nerfed, it only directly affects the card's winrate, but the deck will make changes to accomodate for the nerf ?
Like those people who think nerfing RSW will instantly fix mage forever, as if mages don't have 100 other good cards if necessary.
Blizzard nerf OP cards, they rarely ever target entire OP decks, because they simply can't. Try playing the pre-nerf list with 8-10 secrets and see how it goes if you don't get what I mean. Sword of the fallen is 33% weaker and it had a real impact on how secret paladins build their deck, now there are only 4-5 secrets in the deck. Which brought new strong cards into the mix, like Alexstrasza. You can't nerf decks, people will always adapt.
You say some secret paladin decks average at 75% winrate. Do you have evidence of that ? How big was the sample size and at what rank ? Because 75% is definitely an issue and would require drastic measures, but somehow I don't believe you.
Paladins usually never do anything too degenerate. they're a bit like Hunter in that regard, who's face decks are powerful but don't take advantage of things such as mana cheating or excessive card draw that other classes do. It just gives me a much clearer game plan when I queue into them.
I think the secret package will be looked at again but I hope Paladin remains a Tier 1 class as I find them far less frustrating to play against in general than some of the other oppressive decks/classes we've seen. I feel the same about Rush Warrior too, powerful deck but I atleast feel like I'm allowed to make decisions when I play against it.
I fully agree with you, and before anyone points out that you can't just ask for nerfs you should look at the winrate. The strongest Paladin decks have winrates above 70%, there is just no way to justify that.
The problem is that they have an absurd amount of very strong low-cost cards that work well together. I would give examples but then I might as well write down the whole secret Paladin decklist. The one I'm most confused about is Conviction, they nerfed Cold Blood from 1 to 2 mana because 4 attack for one mana was supposedly too strong (even with the combo requirement). Now they have a card that can provide 6 or even 9 attack damage for 1 mana just like that.
And First Day of School generating 2 cards for 0 mana is just dumb, I don't understand how they could think that was ever a good idea.
That's 10 cards that you can draw while generating tempo, it doesn't get any better for aggro decks. Saying paladin has no card draw is like saying priest has no healing.
I just don’t see how this class is seen as being ok in the current meta of standard and blizz are just happy to leave them untouched.

They also have Sword of the Fallen which draws and plays cards and should be nerfed again imo.
It isn't that Paladin don't have draw, more that they can be run out of resources. The problem with some of the modern tempo decks is that they were out controlling control decks because they could constantly refill and/or regenerate.
EDIT: I wrote this out before the edit to add SotF.
Little talk here about librams, are librams are ok? The libram package is the one I find the most annoying in paladin, by far. I enjoy playing against secrets, mage, paladin, hunter, rogue whatever...they just create interesting decisions and feel interactive. And the bottom line is without severe help paladin secrets will never see play - cards like mysterious challenger and sword of the fallen need to be in the game every once in while.
I think librams are alright really. I rarely play much Paladin, the class typically doesn't appeal to me but I've played with librams a bit and played against them a lot and again, I don't feel they are consisntely amazing. Yes, if they get the right draw and have discounted them and then bring them all back with Lliadrin and it's all on curve etc then you're probably going to have a tough time but there are plenty of times they don't hit that sort of streak and librams are such a huge part of their game plan that if you can hex, morph, bounce or whatever else removes the librams completely then it really, really sets them back.
We have less ways of this now because cards like Reno and plague of death have rotated but there are still ways to devolve, blackjack stunner, hex etc and punish them dumping all their librams into one or two minions.
At the moment Paladin is a little bit too good, compared to everything else. He can create serious threats out of nowhere, thanks to Conviction (which literally punishes you for letting him have any board) and protect it with secrets, which can be very oppressive (especially with Crabrider on curve).
Try to trade - nope, because of Noble Sacrifice. Use removal - nope, because of Oh My Yogg!. Try another one - yes!... but no, because Avenge just made matters even worse...
And on top of that, after 10 board refills in a row, he can start to bully you with full hand of 0 mana spells from Lady Liadrin... Even Jaraxxus can't stand up to this, because it's like 6/6 vs 9/9 every single turn.
Stop repeating this thread. Stop posting irrelevant HSreplay stats.
Secret Paladin and Libram Paladin are tier 2 decks, along with Mage. The current decks to beat are Rush Warrior, Control Priest and whatever Rogues are doing.
Edit: I forgot about Hunter, which I don't know if it's tier 1 or 2, but it seems to be slightly better than Paladin.

People spent so much time whining about spell mage, which has like 3 good matchups in the meta and ignored secret Paladin which only has like 2 bad matchups. Pretty damn funny.

Paladin had good draw? Paladin has litterally no draw apart from a few cycle cards (that are admittadly very strong).
There is no way to draw multiple cards other than playing something like malygos.

Guys I'm not in the nerf train, but paladin has card draw, just please stop pretending they don't.
Knight of Anointment / Hand of A'dal : best tempo card draw in the game.
Northwatch Commander : only in secret archetype but also an insane tempo card draw.
And then Sword of the Fallen obviously who draws+plays 2 cards.

The Defs don’t care about the gap between the classes.
Today it’s pretty normal that some Decks have winrates 60-70% while some classes couldn’t reach 45-50% with their best Deck.
Hearthstone became a extremely unbalanced cardgame.

Lol, no. Secret Paladin is tier 1 deck and no other deck is even close .
Nerf Conviction to 2 mana. That's all we need for the current meta.
its not true
Hunter is actualy worste
People spent so much time whining about spell mage, which has like 3 good matchups in the meta and ignored secret Paladin which only has like 2 bad matchups. Pretty damn funny.
If you follow tempostorm it’s the only tier 1 deck. So it’s all perspective.
