The more I play/face Demon Hunter, the more I actually like Outcast as a mechanic (believe it or not). I think it adds a layer of strategy that works well with the overall mechanics of Hearthstone. However, what makes it feel a little OP is that other classes don't have it. This got me thinking... What if Team 5 went back and revisited all classes and added Outcast to some basic/classic cards (yes, just a wild-eyed fantasy cause I know Blizzy won't actually do this)?
Personally, I think it could add some spice to the basic/classic cards and reincorporate several cards that don't see any use.
It's a fitting mechanic for the new class and it could potentially be very interesting. Maybe have outcast spells that benefit in some way from having expensive cards in hand. If every class had outcast, what would set Demon Hunter apart?
Outcast is kinda a dumb mechanic. There’s no real way to control the order cards in your hand are in, so it inevitably comes down to top decking or waiting a very long time. It requires no real skill, given that you can’t really plan what cards you’re going to draw.
Absolutely not. It's a demon hunter mechanic, like how rogues gets combo cards, shamanas get overload cards, warlocks get self damaging cards and paladin get random garbage cards.
It works so well in demon hunter because they have a lot of cheap and flexible cards, so activating the bonus is very easy. A lot of other classes just simply won't be able to utilise outcast because they have more situational and/or expensive cards.

Never laughed so hard at the Paladin part, thank you.
I might be alone in this, but I kind of dislike the Outcast mechanic the more I play with it in DH.
There's just a boom or bust potential with them, or feast or famine. The cards seem to be slightly worse than normal cards when you can't use the Outcast part and seem to be intentionally better than normal cards when you CAN make use of the Outcast part. That cannot lead to anything else but the mechanic always being either OP or not quite good enough.
I know that averages out to it being an average card and that a smart player will get more out of it, but guess what? Blizzard balances around the average player. Always has, in every game. Which means that a mechanic that is always going to be slightly better in the hands of better players is always going to be slightly broken for those better players and always be something that influences the meta.
So I'll pass on having this mechanic in every class. I think it's probably going to be problematic enough to balance having it in 1 class.

It basically rewards dh for top decking. They have so many low cost cards and draw mechanics that I takes no skill to make it work. Its a fun and interesting mechanic in practice but in dh as it is now, its completely busted and uninteresting
Whem I first time saw Keli'dan the Breaker I felt like it should have outcast in it. Board wipe only on top deck is just too random. Wipe on outcast would add another layer of strategy and usefulness to this otherwise mediocre card. Blizzard never cared for Warlock though, so I'm not that surprised.

Yeah, lock been so shit so many seasons in a row
Not "shit" but boring and repetitive for sure. Most of the time it's zoo or bust, because instead of viable archetypes, Blizzard is giving us trash and memes like Plot Twist, Betrug or Quest (worst quest ever printed in HS). Galakrond Warlock in AoO is the first viable, non-zoo archetype since Cube Lock (which by the way wasn't even intended by Blizzard).
I hear those of you who talk about it as a class mechanic. I guess my takeaway is that Outcast is broken and needs reworking. Maybe that means making it only work on the left OR right most card in hand. Maybe it means decreasing the rewards for playing it. Right now, it just seems too easy to activate, so little/no draw back and you get (in my opinion) too much value out of it.
Just wanted to hear what other people were thinking. Thanks.
Outcast isn't THAT bad except for Skull of Guldan. Skull is the most broken Outcast card. Altruis is the other problematic card when combined with the Outcast cards. Altruis shouldn't be able to hit face and only minions. Altruis is like a Twisting Nether that only affects the opponents board, that draws cards, and does 7-8 damage to the face. That's literally what Altruis does when it hits the board late game. Too good when combined with low costing Outcast cards that keep cycling thru your deck.
What's also frightening is thinking about what other Outcast cards DH might get in future expansions. The power creep wont stop here. They have to stick with this Outcast mechanic now and they'll never admit it was a huge mistake.

Those were actually the two cards that made me think about starting this thread in the first place. I completely agree that Altruis the Outcast should be able to go face. I mean, if the nerfed Holy Nova so it couldn't deal face damage... come on. Skull of Gul'dan should both discount AND draw so many. The ability to reload and play most, if not all, those cards late game creates such board swings it's maddening.
As a general rule each class has an exclusive Keyword, for example Rogue and combo, Shaman and overload, Druid and choosen One, etc. Outcast is exclusive to Demon Hunter, it is the first expansion to omit a new Keyword for all classes because it is to promote the new class.

What do you think - good idea or no?

every class must have his own mechanic, as druid with choose one or rogue with combo

I dont think they realized how easy it was to activate Outcast, essentially making the cards just extremely overpowered.
So no. Its not a good mechanic, at all, and lets not spread it further
Maybe in the future we will have a chaos expansion where classes get charechteristic of others classes.
Until this will happens outcast will stay only with dh.
PRIEST
Shaman got overload
Rogue got combo
Druid got choose one
Warrior got rage
Mage got freeze
Warlock got discard
And what will Demon Hunter have if you made outcast non exclusive?
But honestly I don’t like the mechanic. They should’ve change it to something else or just remove it.
Outcast is for DH, because they were Outcasts, you know, class identity and so on...
Just from the game mechanic perspective, I'd much rather have Outcast as a mechanic available for everyone and Dormant - specific to DH.
