People who just advise to not complain should just refrain from replying to this thread, if they don't have anything productive to say anyway. I agree with the OP, this xpac looks really lame compared to the boomsday project, saviors of uldum and even DoD. They made demon hunter, hunter and rogue super strong (surprise) but all other classes idk..just seem really slow and not able to swing turns. Of course, I might be completely wrong and the meta will turn out differently, but I definitely won't pre-order.The presentation of the new content was completely lackluster, too. Hopefully the August set will be better.
People seem to forget that Boomsday was a really lackluster expansion until the Rise of Mechs happened last year. Everyone put Zilliax in their decks, yes, but legendary spells, the big, flashy thing of the expansion, fell flat. Everyone was complaining that the power level of Witchwood and Boomsday (and later RR) was too low to make an impact in the meta.
Personally I'm really excited for this expansion, mainly because there's a lot of new mechanics. I also like the more aggressive Discardlock, so I'm happy about seeing that archetype again.
I agree that the expansion looks somewhat mediocre outside of Demon Hunter. Not many build-around legendaries or outstanding cards for new playstyles. A lot of "ok" cards, some weird stuff that doesn't look like it's gonna work out soon, like Spell Druid.
Still, I would just wait and see how things turn out. I wouldn't be surprised to see virtually unchanged Galakrond Rogue, Galakrond Warrior, Dragon Hunter and maybe Highlander Hunter and/or Mage staying at the top with very few new cards, with one or two Demon Hunter decks in the mix. But I think there's some possibility that some cards will have more of an impact than it might seem. I can't say which one specifically, but it wouldn't be the first time that a card looks very plain, if not useless, on paper, and ends up having a massive impact on the game.
Not even the developers saw the possibility that Even Paladin would be stronger than Odd Paladin when Witchwood came out. People thought Fungalmancer was a pack filler, and it became a staple for several decks across several classes. And while everybody agreed that Giggling Inventor seemed like a good card, I don't think many people expected to see Blood Knight becoming an important tech card for some time. When Saviors of Uldum came out, most of the quests were disregarded, and the Highlander archetype declared dead because of the existence of Bomb Warrior. Many quests failed, but Quest Druid became a very solid deck, Quest Priest is not entirely without success, even Quest Hunter is a good option these days (though the rotation might bury it). As for Highlander decks, Hunter continues to be very strong, Mage also has good potential to be relevant, Rogue and Shaman can also reasonably build Highlander decks, though with mixed success, especially the latter.
Also, we have seen a few cases last year, where the unimpressive sets from 2018 had some unexpectedly strong cards to offer. Mech Hunter was not a thing until Rise of Shadows, Control Mech Warrior was also not all that good in 2018. Sure, Omega Devastator massively contributed to the deck taking off, but the core of it was just waiting for the right meta. Bwonsamdi, the Dead, of all cards, became an important factor for a deck that everyone was raging about during Saviors of Uldum. Raiding Party became so good it had to get nerfed in Rise of Shadows, Wardruid Loti ended up in a strong deck, and Spirit of the Frog and Zentimo were so good that one nerf wave wasn't enough to stop Galakrond Shaman. And few people expected that Zerek's Cloning Gallery would become an essential card for Priest, ever.
It's not always the way it seems, is what I want to say. It could very well be, that Ashes of Outland has little impact beyond Demon Hunter, but early assessments have been so wrong so many times, that I'd not be so pessimistic about it. And even if the expansion won't inspire many new decks right away, it's absolutely possible, that the next expansion will change our perception of this one dramatically.
Lol this site. Someone complains about the gam-DONT PLAY IT THEN DUMBO!
Its damn normal for people to critise or complain about the aspects of the game they dont like. Simply saying ''Dont play then'' doesnt make any f*cking sense the reason people make these threads is because they care about the game and they play it.
So you think people should leave if there here to complain, well if you dont like people complaining why wont you consider leaving this site? Is that really the solution here? Just kick everyone out if they dont like it or try to argue. Jesus man.
The majority of people who criticize expect Blizzard to listen to them and actually adjust the game to their tastes. Guess what? Not gonna happen. If Blizzard says: "We're happy with the game the way it is", what do you think the players will do? Will they say "Ok Blizzard, thank you for being honest with us, we won't complain again"? No. They'll complain even more.
In my opinion, this is one of the of the highest power level expansions of all time.
Minion based decks are looking to make a huge comeback with some of the strongest death rattles ever printed. I expect token decks and death rattle decks will dominate until later expansions when there are more available board-clears.
Druid, rogue, and hunter are definite winners and Paladin and Demon hunter could potentially be incredibly busted or could not have enough support for their build types.
Shaman didn't get many great class cards but got neutral cards that will support token decks. Priest and warrior don't really have win conditions and might be in a bit of trouble. Mage will probably be fine but I have no idea whether they will be especially good or not.
I could be totally wrong, but that's what I'm thinking right now.
I disagree, even with the introduction of a new class with many overpowered cards and Team 5 forcing many to play aggro decks, this expansion will not fail.
I know, that probably doesn't make much sense to control players like me, but let me explain all of you the situation. As I've said in other threads, most people will be playing with the Demon Hunter, which means that trying to counter it will probably be one of the most fun experiences one could ever have playing this f...king game!!! :D Denying someone the joy of winning with a new class in Hearthstone after six years of its release will give me more satisfaction than a thousand whores!!! XD Just imagine if someone who is very happy about the introduction of the Demon Hunter loses 4 or 5 times in a row playing with it and then comes here to cry in the salt thread? Wouldn't that be awesome? Wouldn't that be great? Of course yes, it would be amazing!!! :)
Seriously, chances of this expansion being a blast are pretty high, but I'm not saying it's going to be one of the best, just definitely not one of the worst. ;)
Complain about announcement delay--->complain about card reveal rate--->complain about revealed cards--->make unbacked claims about said cards--->realize no one's predictions were right--->complain about meta--->complain about new meta if changes are made--->complain that the meta is stale--->start over from the beginning.
Nah I'll buy it because im good at the game. I do hate how the money just goes down the drain for standard only players though. Im just venting about the bad cards there are tons of good cards in this expansion I know.
What a joyless life. Complain about game, funnel money into game. Complain about paying for cards in a free2play game.
"I'll buy it because I'm good at the game", big doubt lol. People who are truly good at the game don't cry that there aren't any new tier 1 decks to net EZ wins with.
with so many cards leaving I'm sure the meta will be quite different.... though some galakrond decks contain most of their original cards. that being said i do expect things will be better than people think. though with actual good cards last year it will probably be less then before. possible incoming nerfs to galakrond if it remains too dominant.
Paladins have Tip the Scales and Scalelord to help support the Murloc archetype. While it may not be a tier 1 deck, it along with the existing Murlocs in standard and the new neutral murloc that gives 1+1 to all Murlocs on the board, it's going to be an annoying deck to deal with. However, if that fails, you still have the Librams and Lady Liadrin to fall back on.
I wouldn't count out spell Druid since it is supported by a stupidly strong legendary that can be heavily discounted. That said, I think spell Mage will be better.
I agree with you that Warlock seems a bit lost in terms of direction.
I agree. All cards are so random. Warlock with mana gain like wtf. why

It's about to get aggro
I agree. There are too much pack filler.

Mandatory "set's trash" post for this expansion. This should be part of the bingo.
Have you ever played with these new cards?
No?
Then please wait until the expansion is released
Greetings, traveler.
Let's make Hunter great.

You cannot be serious. Such an uneducated statement it sounds like you are a troll.
The expanion is not the worst, my only concern is demonhunter get too strong to appear very often in ladder but not enough to be nerfed.

I hadn't really seen it from a standard player's perspective but yeah I guess that wouldn't be as hype? Shit's bumping in wild tho lemme tell you
Dark Portal is the first card in a while that is sparking my deck building brain. Just for that fact, I like this set.
