Given that they reached Legend at least once and knowing the kind of grind you need to do to achieve it, I think they earned the right to wear that card back whenever they want. I don't do it myself but I'm just saying those guys have all the right to do it.
I understand that, but imagine a guy proudly wearing his Legend card back beaten by a rank 18 (or actually being stuck near that rank) I'd be ashamed.
Don't care, you can play that card back at any rank, I care whether you use that card back and play your game correctly or not, that is what I take some attention to.
I personally use the Legend card back with specific decks, regardless of Rank. If I'm going with a deck I personally see as a deck that is worthy of that card back, I'll use it, otherwise no. I also use it when I'm with a 35 Legendaries deck, for obvious reasons, and also the fact that I don't own the Golden Celebration card back.
(Decks I use it with include normal Burn Freeze and Infinite Burn Mage, Miracle and Oil Rogue, most Malygos Combo decks, Patron Warrior, and a few others.)
I personally think it looks best with a golden warrior and maybe rogue too.
The Legend card back doesn't bother me when I see it at lower ranks, I don't think it's necessarily indicative of skill. There are only two card backs that get an instant gut reaction from me - Heroic Karazhan players tend to be quite good, and players with the Secret Level back are always obnoxious.
I use the Heroic League of Explorers card back most of the time, it's by far my favourite.

Interesting, non of the Heroic Adventures are that hard. I'm surprised you didn't say the Golden Celebration card back instead. When you face someone with those, you know you are in for a hard time.
And the Secret Level card back is cool, I should use it sometime. Nice reminder.
sometimes i take breaks and start very low on ranks. I always wear my legend cardback on my decks because of the sense accomplishment and the satisfaction it gave me the first time i reached it with a homewbrew tempo deck in the razakus meta. I also have all the heroes skins but let me tell you that skins and cardbacks dont count. When i really want to push throughout ranks and play alot, i always wear neutral cardback and neutral hero and never emote. Cardbacks just mean nothing.

I almost always use it and I rank in wild and do quests in standard. So I'm always playing in low ranks in standard with my legend card back and sometimes it feels bad but that's how it is.
I do not own the said cardback as i've never managed to reach Legend, but even if i had it i wouldn't use it. Imo it's just not that pretty. If you have nothing better sure, but if you own let's say maginifcent rainbow card back, why would you use Legend cardback?
And you shouldn't be indimidated by Legend cardback. They are just normal players who make dumb plays just like everyone. I'll admit that i was shitting my pants when i saw Legend card back for the first, and it got even worse when i realised that it was a mirror match... Funny thing is i ended up winning that game and since than i never had any issues with it.
So what do you think of people using the diablo brawl cardback? it means the same thing i guess
I don't care about the Legend cardback, but I am genuinely jealous of people who got the Diablo one :( Came out right at the tail-end of my "hiatus"; really disappointed I missed it.
As for the topic at hand, I'm of two minds about it:
It seems rude to "flaunt" your Legend cardback when up against those in the really poor ranks and/or newer people. Especially the golden heroes in the 20+ ranks; you hit Legend and have 500+ wins, why are you Rank 24?
Beating them in such situations feels especially good, and what cardbacks people use is not something I can control so getting upset about it seems like a waste. I wouldn't be in the shit ranks myself if I took the time to grind myself forward, so it's not impossible that someone could fall back from not-caring or being away from the game.
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
Meh... Everyone has the right to be bad at the game, Legend players included.

If I take a few months off HS, how exactly am I able to turn off the Golden Hero portrait? (I have all of them golden; and it's not an achievement that somehow shows you're a good player, it's simply that you played a long time - and/or a lot of with a certain class...it could even not mean you're experienced with the current most popular deck of the class - for example I have around 2.5k wins with Paladin, and around 2k are from way back before and during Naxxramas when I played only Control Paladin).
I used it for 3 games, realised that everyone in my MMR pool has it, and I think it's one of the worst designs of all the card backs, so swapped it back to my Season 1 Pandaria cardback in 2016 and only change it over the xmas period, especially seeing as so few people have it. I really couldn't give a toss what cardback people use, I'm too busy focusing on trying to win the game.

The game has been out for 5 years, I don't think having all 9 golden heroes is an achievement at ALL. I don't even feel it shows you've been playing for a while.
That's why blizzard needs new tiers of cosmetics at 1000, 1500, 2000 wins.

I understand that, which is why the second bullet's remarks are there. In some ways it annoys me to see it, but I'm also aware of the circumstances surrounding why a golden hero-Legend player would be in the lower ranks.
I could very well be one of those same golden players if I bothered to play Ranked more; having been around since vanilla, it would have been simply a matter of time.

I personally have it set as Favourite so it shows up when I'm opening packs, but I try to not use it for actual games. I just think other cardbacks are more colourful and have more personality.
Before i reached legend i got kind of nervous playing someone with the cardback, after reaching legend myself i hardly even notice opponents cardbacks anymore. Recently started playing Na and Asia ladder after getting rank 5/legend on EU(depends if i feel i got time to grind to legend, i always get rank 5 for the rewards though) and noticed there are some really bad players with legend cardbacks up on the starter ranks :)

Havn´t seen those rank since i cant remember really, but recently (like 2 days agao) started playing asia ladder and you´ll be amazed how many people with actual TIER 1 decks playing at rank 20-25. I faced Maly druid/ Togwaggle/Controllock/Zoo you name it and i faced it during those ranks i swear.
It did make me wonder how can these players be playing at this rank with those decks but i just kept grinding my F2p spellhunter and got rank 18 yesterday, focusing on getting atleast rank 5 this season.

No - cause everyone can beat anybody - Why should anybody be ashamed if the loose wearing a legend card back?? Nobody is unbeatable - hell , Legenplayers and of course Tournament Players etc. - loose too - so i personaly would not be ashamed loosing with the legend card back!
Except that this card back is ''supposed'' to show that you're an elite and you really aren't if you're rank 18

Maybe the legend player takes a break from game and gets reset to 20?
In the end just play however you want, use whichever cards/cardbacks you want, have fun and don't worry what other people think.
Care to elaborate ?
