Honestly I guess the thing that would make Hearthstone playable again is 6 expansions a year, but in a small order and not with 135 cards. Like make 6 expansions and add 50 cards in each expansion, stop creating „filler“ cards and we‘re good. Duel Links does this great (hell there are even way too many cards getting released every time) but 2 months between expansions with 50 cards (5 legendaries, 10 epics, 15 rares, 20 commons) is what is enough for us. You don‘t even have to create different mechanics, just go on with 2 expansions for 1 theme and it‘s still gonna be pretty much the same. You could still add pre purchases (even double it), increase the droprate for legendaries slightly to make them true legendary, still do rotations every 2 years (since you could actually nerf cards way better with a minor pool).
I mean I don‘t care I stopped playing Hurtstone for 6 months now and just tune in from time to time to see the rant on this game :P
Miniexpansions would actually make the situation worse especially if you have less filler.
What made expansions like GvG and TGT cheaper was the fact that a lot of legendaries were unnecessary. Seriously go look at the set again and remember. The only MUST have legendary there was Dr. Boom. After that, you would go Mal'Ganis if you went demonlock (if you went zoo/handlock you could go without) and Priest had Vo'jin that was usable but not required.
That's it. Everything else was trash.
The result was that new players could go in, craft Dr. Boom and Mal'Ganis and be set for any high tier deck as far as that expansion goes. That's NOT just thinking competitively, even for just fun the cards were mostly crap. They weren't filler, Blizzard just didn't know how to make cards then.
Now, if the card isn't top tier it's an interesting tier 2-3. If it's not that it's silly enough to want to use for the luls. #()$ People are finding Dragonhatcher at least worth a TRY. GvG? We had (#)$ mini--mage and Junkbot.
It made buying mass packs unfun, but it made crafting as a F2P easy as pie compared to now.
Miniexpansions means the cards would need even more impact and would have to work better with the current set of cards rather than working together, similar to how adventures went. Like Karazan. Because we really need a Karazan every 2 months. Balancing the classes would also be hard since you can't give all 9 classes a legendary. I know others bring up the idea of having the theme similar to an expansion but spreading the cards out but, again, that's how Adventures did it and, honestly, that really wasn't that much better especially if one class gets a high powered card week 1 and a different one gets theirs week 5. Or in this case, I get my OP card in January and you get yours two sets later in May.
I don't want to go back to "just craft that one Common Legendary and put it in all of your decks." That's cheaper, but boring. We've moved on. I like these new sets with quests for everyone, DKs for everyone, weapons for everyone, and a lot of very useful cards that do powerful, interesting, or just silly things. That includes Creeper.
What we need is to acknowledge that the payouts are too small for such a system now and they could be boosted quite a bit. You honestly don't have to frustrate the playerbase at every turn. F2P games are learning that you can swim F2Pers in stuff and, as long as there's more to get, the whales will feast. Battlefront probably could've gotten away with it's mechanics if it was F2P, handed out Darth and Luke on completing the campaign, made getting the other characters and getting to level 2 upgrades easy and just have level 4 stuff be hard to get for non-whales. That's how newer F2P games handle it and they are swimming in praise and money.
Hearthstone will need to keep up. But it won't be by pining for the past. The past is uglier than you remember. We don't need to go back there.
You completly missed the point, but don't worry I'm sure that in your real world everything is fine, man. Also is always nice when people on the internet pull out a "get-a-life" argument as final stand in a post on a forum: it remind me that kids are still around thinking that they've got the Absolut Truth in their hands, until they hit the real world :)
Back on topic: what I was saying is that of course you have to work to get something if you're a F2P player but the resource you may get optimizing what you have are often not even enough to get both what you want and what you need. I agree with you that you don't have to get absolutly everything even if you work it out because Blizzard is a company and so they make content to earn money, but afterall HS it is still a GAME so it's primarly mean to produce FUN to the players. The point I was trying to make is that probably Team 5 may think of a bit more generous system that will give F2P players a bit more space to enjoy Hearthstone without having to choose if being "competitive" instead of having "fun".
I didn't pull a get a life argument. I simply stated facts to help you understand that it is a dream to think that you can expect to be given everything you want and need in Hearthstone for free and without any effort because the reality is that this does not happen anywhere, not in game and not outside of the game. It was meant to bring perspective to people since it seems many lack it. We are playing a game, a luxury, that is even available for free, but the funny part is that being available for free someone seems to make people feel entitled to have access to everything they want and needs just because the base game is free. It's like people are completely out of touch with reality.
The problem is, how on earth do you expect to play for free, to not spend money on the game, and think you will have access to both what you want and need? It's like going to the homeless shelter and expeting to find a buffet for you to take as much as you like. You will not get all you want and need, to get that much, you need a ridiculous amount of effort, which is perfectly fine.
It is a game, it is meant to be fun, and most entertainment out there is paid, just like games. A player who doesn't want to pay any money for this game will have a really hard time playing this game for fun and competitively, they have to make choices. That is what you are forced to do when you don't have unlimited funds. Even paying customers have to make decisions on how they want to approach the game, only the few with funds to support it can afford to get everything they want.
The system was intentionally made to force players to choose how they want to approach the game. If the game was so easy to acquire everything you wanted for free with little effort, there would be mostly no incentive for players to buy packs and the game would have no revenue income to sustain itself. Right now, the way the system is implement, it simply asks the player, do you want to grind gold for a bunch of hours, if you have the free time to do that, or would you rather just skip the farming and get straight to the fun by buying the packs?
And now I ask, what is the problem with this system?
Edit: I should also state that you are choosing to separate Competitive from Fun, and for me they are mostly separate, but that is not how everyone sees it and many players see the competition part as the actual fun of the game.
Oh wow thank you Smarty Pants for giving the community life lessons. You must be having tons of fun with Hearthstone lately. Please tell me more about your experiences in homeless shelters and shutting off others' opinions.

Why not? Who would have thought MtG would be around as long as it is? The early versions were full overpowered cards (that people now pay a small fortune for), it's a tremendous financial investment to play, and it's confusing to new players. For god's sake, just look at the size of the rule book.
HS so far has been the best digital CCG out there. They have figured out how to make fun single player content. I can see HS sticking around for quite some time.

Dont worry. When MtG Arena release, people will leave in droves.

I have very little confidence in Magic in the digital format. I've played like 4 failed versions of it. It's a fun irl card game but it just doesn't work online. That being said I don't know about this new one. Are they redesigning it completely?
I am European, and we get a lot of benefits in the Health department that when I learned how it worked in the States I was shocked to see how good we had it, I didn't even remember to mention that when it comes to countries where most health related goods are not even "discounted" by the government. Here getting serious health issues is mostly a problem for the person for their health, there, getting some serious health problem not only causes its harm, it also pushes a really heavy penalty on the financial situation of the individual, it is crazy. And if I also recall correctly, the Educational system is also extremely expensive for higher education levels.
I wasn't talking about health care, but fair point...
the sad ones.....they bring social topics into a card game....asshurt jags who get whipped by people like me who can buy every card and actually know how to play the game.....awwwweeeeee f2p peasant GET EFFED. sorry son but aside from collecting the cards and the other stuff in the game wtf are you crying about? There is nothing special about getting legend rank or rank 20 or rank 5, the ranks are a symbol of your time spent playing, nothing more. jesus fucking christ kids get a goddam life and stop whining about silly shit. maybe if you spent your time better you could get out of the goddam basement......sorry hearthstone isn't going to do that for you.

or maybe you can actually let them be them? If OP wants to quit, let him quit, no need to curse out BS everytime. It makes the situation worse for you.
Anyhow, OP, I understand your frustration with the game. I took a 3.5 month break from the game to focus on relocation from America to Costa Rica which I kinda regret doing at that time (because I was planning on leaving in August but left in November because reasons and budget). I was brought into Hearthstone by a streamer, and I have grown from a basic kid playing a P2W game into a person who gets better every day.
I still play this game because Asphalt 8 is Pay 2 Win and gets boring overtime and Destiny 1 and 2 are both dead with dumb metas. Yet again, I still feel like the prices are too high. As someone who has bought 2 expansions as well as LoE, Blackrock, and Karazhan in his beginnership, I have seen the struggle of playing this game.
I wouldn't consider this a salt thread mainly because of how it's worded. But anyways, good luck with the rest of your life, OP!
I was honestly trying to be sympathetic until the fiery war axe bit. The card was obscenely OP, and after the nerf, it's still perfectly playable after the nerf.
This game is the most fun it’s ever been right now. Sure, it’s pricey, but there are now so many awesome cards, that you can make a LOT of amazing decks. The cards released in the Year of the Mammoth are game defining. You will hardly find a deck not filled with these cards, so saying that the new expansions were boring or useless or whatever is ridiculous and untrue.
I was off for a bit in the middle of the year, so I had to spend a fair bit to catch back up in december, but it has been so good. I love this game. I don’t regret a cent that I’ve spent. I just wish we all got more for our money.
I think the game will be better once Patches rotates out in a few months. Someone high up at Blizzard (Brode?) has a hard-on for Patches. I remember an interview at sometime where a Blizzard dev said they'd been planning on making a card like patches for along time and were super excited about it. Blizzard's approach to fixing the effects of Patches reminds of the movie Tin Cup... taking the wrong shot over and over and missing, rather than laying up (just nerfing patches). Cards that probably did not need to be nerferd if Patches were nerfed: Fiery War Axe, Small Time Buccaneer, Spirit Claws, and maybe even Caverns Below. Problem still not solved. Its repeated, stubborn mistakes like this that cause players to lose trust in Blizzard and leave the game

I've really like the last 3 expansions, and I'm lookforward to when patches, Barnes (hopefully, iceblock goes to hall of fame), Raza, Kazakus rotates out. I think there will be a lot less "problematic" cards. Of course there will be some good / broken cards, but not in the same category.
Ha ha ha .. people doesnt know for wild, and that there u have bunch of consistent decks for 2-3k dust.. Standard is boring asf, when i wanted to leave game i started playing in wild and stayed there. Wild is way funnier, every game another deck, u never know what will be pulled out
On which rank? Last weak I played from rank 9 to 5 in Wild and my Deck Tracker says over 1/3 of all of my enemies were Cubelock.
The second most enemy was Reno-Priest for me. Together over 50% of my enemies was Reno-Priest and Cubelock.
Every game another deck? Not over Rank 10 for me...
Blizzard should make a special stream lessons or youtube videos in which they explain the the only way hs should be played is with supa dupa 1000 IQ control/combo homebrewed decks and 30 minutes long match is a minimum time period that proves you're not braindead blah blah something etc.

I haven´t read the posts above, but I just need to say; I love this game!
If you don't love it, quit. But don't bother to write a page why. We don't care.
See you on the ladder.
who gives a shit if you are leaving, just freaking leave no one cares. What a panzie
One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I came here to laugh at you.

TBH I'm probably leaving once MTG arena launches.
