So, you get to pick the minion in your hand that you want to buff, right? How can this not get value in Zoolock? I know Zoolock doesn’t like to trade, but a lot of time your opponent doesn’t give you a choice. I think there will be a place for this alongside Void Analyst. Not everyone has Keleseth, and that won’t be in standard forever.

I'm pretty sure you do not get to choose the buff. Just more inconsistent wording.
Handbuff never really worked in the past, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say it won't work for Warlock either. Even with synergistic cards like Omega Agent, Soul Infusion etc.
Of course, warlock does have draw in its favour so it will be easier to consistently have a target in hand. So maybe it could work with enough support in this set? I doubt it though.
Sadly, this card is likely going to fall in a strange spot between playable and god-tier (if it triggered on all minion deaths, like corridor creeper). I think that it will be good, particularly when Prince 2 rotates out, but it is so easy to trade against that I don't know if it can be truly be worth it.
Interestingly, it will also be good just to drop the spirit on a full board, even if you don't initiate the trades. Because it puts your opponent in an awkward spot. If he has no 3+ dmg board clear, he will buff your hand minions with every trade he is doing. And he will, because you are playing zoo and he wants to get rid of your board. So you can still push face damage while your opponent is doing the work.
But I doubt it will see play before Prince Keleseth rotates next year.
Pretty bad unless you have serious handbuff synergies. It can't trade by itself, so you need it to give enough buffs to be worth 2 mana, plus some extra from the tempo loss. That's like 3 triggers at the very least, which seems too difficult to do. I'd rather just run Keleseth.
Well, I just learned this card is a great tool against explosive trap...lose your full board but buff your entire hand multiple times...and it survives...even better if you have two out before you trigger the secret...

Defile
We are probably getting a card that sacrifice minions.
Love the tribes.

Seems really reasonable once Keleseth rotates. Hard to justify until then.

won't see play as long as keleseth exists in standard.. we will see in 2019

Stupid question but because it says "after" (and not "whenever"), does that mean the card itself dying cannot trigger the effect?

Handbuff is a doomed archetype.
Ok, hear me out. Spirit of the Bat on one turn, then since it has stealth on the next turn you Grim Patron into Deathspeaker on your Spirit of the Bat and then Defile. During this time you have Hir'eek, the Bat in your hand........... Idk, sounds like it might be some fun to play out with Soul Infusion, etc.
-It's better to have something you don't need, than to need something you don't have
As opposed to the super aggressive life tap that some warlocks do on turn 2.
Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.
