This card is to Jade Druid what Eater of Secrets was to Secret Paladin, only slightly worse. I mean, Secret Paladin didn't really die as a deck once Eater of Secrets was released. There were still updated versions of the deck in Standard mode that did really well, most of the people playing it just got scared off in the early stages of the game because it was a common tech card starting off. What really killed Secret Paladin was the Standard rotation itself, which caused it to lose cards like Loatheb, Muster for Battle and Shielded Minibot. The difference? Jade Druid really wasn't harmed that much by the card rotation in Year of the Mammoth. And although Jade Druid doesn't match up to a lot of the stronger decks in the meta that well, that doesn't leave it unplayed, and if Jade Druid players start realizing that people aren't gonna tech this thing consistently enough then they don't have anything to fear. Ah well, at least we live in an age where more tech cards are viable then they have been in the past.
im no oposite to "tech" cards than are great agaisnt his "prey" and bad in another matches. What i dont like is that, at the begining of the game "tech" cards were common (Acidic Swamp Ooze) or even rare ( Kezan Mystic ) And since a couple of ampliations they are mostly epics...

Eater of Secrets only destroyed secrets that were in play, so you could play around it, this card destroys everything in your hand and deck, which WILL make a huge difference I'd believe.
I feel this will be at least a one of in all decks as a tech against aggro decks and Jade/Evolve until those decks naturally die or rotate out next year.
Eat crow, those who said jade idol "wasn't a problem, not tier 1 yada yada (because the were obviously playing it and hate control decks cause they're beyond their intellect).
Ok sorry, lot of spite in this post...I hated jade idol that much. brings out the worst in me.
Why the wreck you want tomuligan your quest mage. MAkes it so unrelyable. you get generated spells the first few turns...
Because the quest is useless in the first couple of turns. In control/combo mage decks you really don't want your finishers in your opening hand. You may get the generated spells, but you won't use them right away. You use the first few turns to grab as many small clears/board control elements as possible (Volcanic Potion, Mana Wyrm, ETC). You want your Sorcerer's Apprentices and Molten Reflections and Arcane Giants turns 7-10. Having the quest early doesn't really help you achieve that goal.
So this Geist really effs with that gameplan, since it forces you to keep it in your mulligan, making your opening hand waaaay worse than if you sent it back. You're playing with a card less than you were before, essentially. Not only does Geist run Jade Druid into the ground, but it also makes Quest Mage (aka the most powerful control deck in the meta) way less consistent and therefore weaker.
People seem upset because this card harms already established decks. Jade Druid, Evolve Shaman, and Combo Priest. The thing is, the only deck it really hoses is Jade Druid, because the gamebreaking value of the spell comes at the end of the game, and it is infinite. Evolve Shaman and Combo priest can still get value from those cards before turn 6. Additionally, Evolve Shaman and Combo Priest can get full value from those cards any time between turn 6 and whenever the tech card is actually drawn. This is different (less likely) with Jade Druid, because it doesn't get the true value of its spell until the late late stages when the tech card will be much more likely to have been drawn. The design of this card is pretty ingenious. I mean, eater of secrets exists, but if you don't have it on turn 4-8 odds are you missed your opportunity to really harm your opponent. Despite Eater of Secrets, Mage still has two maybe three legitimate meta decks.

How is a deck with < 50% winrate the "most powerful control deck in the meta?"
If this really was created with jade idol in mind I wish blizzard could have cleaned up their mess without punishing other decks. I'm looking forward to trying out an arcane giants combo warrior in the new expansion but to lose both whirlwinds and any other one mana spells without any way to counter that is going to feel pretty bad.

They pushed Azure Drake to Hall of Fame because it limited design space for 5 drops. Now they release Geist for 6.
It is just funny we buy cards that they remove later on anyways..

Get WRECKED Jade Druid!
Fav card of the set. The art; the text. Everything feels great about this card.

Maybe old school control warrior comeback but you cannot use shield slam...
