I've decided to consult the greater Wild community specifically on this one. Basically, my Standard collection is now to a point where I can take a quick detour and shore up my Wild collection. For context, I started playing around when TGT was released, but I was free-to-play up until around this current Standard Rotation. As such, I only have a smattering of TGT and GvG cards as well as the adventures minus Naxx.
I have every intention of purchasing Naxx since enough cards are everpresent that I'd be remiss if I didn't pick it up. I also plan to buy GvG packs since a large portion of those cards see play and it'd be dust inefficient to craft what I'm missing (13,000 is my current number, but I have a lot of Standard cards on my checklist). So, here are my questions:
1. Is 40 GvG packs enough to bring my Wild collection up to speed?
2. Is it at all worth it to buy TGT packs? Or do so few of those see play to the point where it's just better to spot-craft what I need?
3. Currently, the only non-adventure card of value I have in Wild is Vol'jin. From what I can gather, the only other legendaries that still see play are Mal'Ganis, Dr. Boom, and Sneed's Old Shredder (in N'Zoth lists). Are there any key legendary cards I'm not accounting for?
4. What epics should I be on the lookout for?
It should be noted that I don't play Warrior at all because I'm missing a lot from Warrior, including many staple Classic cards, so I likely won't craft any Warrior cards or Neutrals that primarily see play in Warrior (Justicar Truehart). Other than that, my collection for every other class is solid enough that I can afford to dive in a bit deeper to get myself set for that particular class.
Also, if I'm missing any key points for preparing myself for Wild, feel free to bring them up. That being said, lay it on me!
Man, I was exactelly in the same position, I was playing when TGT was lounched, but didn´t have much cards, and I invested most my gold in adventures (lucklly, right decision, as far as I know now). My only legendary from the set was Justicar.
TGT was a pretty weak expansion, and I don´t think it would be worth buying. I will try to examine the classes and cards to help you out. (only epics and legendarys)
DRUID: Mulch is pretty good, but not a must. Astral and Aviana have niche applications, more in funsies.
HUNTER: Lock and load canbe played in fun decks. No epic/legend for copetitive play.
MAGE: Arcane Blast is cool, and finds spots in tempo/Reno mages (I crafted 1). Coldora Drake and Ronin, not so much.
PALADIN: Crafted 2 Scumbag Challengers back in the day, even if I donp t play them anymore. Coliseum is a card I might play if I had, but haven´t crafter. Eadric is garbage.
PRIEST: Confuse and Shadownfiend both are used from time to time, but I own none (and I am playin Reno Priest without them on ladder). Confessor got a lot better with the new deathknight, but I don´t own her and don´t think I am missing much.
ROGUE: Beneth the Grounds can be used as anti-Reno tech card, but I don´t own and never felt like crafting. Rest is garbage.
SHAMAN: Not having Elemental Distruction keeps me from playing some versions of control shaman. Charged hammer is only OK and mistcaller is garbage.
WARLOCK: Dreadsteed is cool, but not competitive. Rest is garbage,
WARRIOR: Epics arre trash. Varian was a finisher in some control warriors, but I never got to craft and haven´t seen him in ages.
NEUTRAL: Crafted a Garisson Comander for old versions of Chansey Priest and town twilight Guardians for Dragon Priest. Some DK Reno Priests run Recruiter, since it generates lots of 1 mana cards, but I didnt craft it yet.
Amongst the legendaries, Gormok can find room in Zoo lists (dont have him), Justicar in some Dude Paladin and Control Warrior. Other are more replaceble.
Regarding GVG, 40 packs should net you 2 legendaries (1 in 10 packs and luckly 1 in 30, if the pity timer is in your favor). There are many common and rare mechs, it would most likelly get you a lot of those, and you can craft what you don´t get.

Unfortunately, I think with the way the new legendary pack rules work, I'm not guaranteed one in the first 10 packs, since I opened a few back in the day (that's how I got Vol'jin).
I am not sure about that, I know this is what they sayed about the cards, but I read somewhere that people were getting legends in less than 10 packs even if the oppened a little bit of packs back in the day. Maybe Blizz deleted the pity timers for rotated sets. If you get the 40 GVG, let me know about the legs, because I have none from that set, aside from the crafted Mal Ghanis.
Hey all, just checking in. I went ahead and bought the 40 GvG packs on the hope that I'd grab at least one of the legendaries I wanted while reasonably filling out my collection. Was it worth it? YES. This was probably the best 40-pack opening I've ever done.
I'm pretty set, as far as I'm concerned. Just need to grab Naxx and I can craft the stuff I want with impunity, since I achieved my goal of getting at least either Mal'Ganis or Dr. Boom.
It may also be worth noting that 2 Garisson Commanders are used in the Brewmaster version of exodia paladin.
That is interesting. I have the paladin DK, alongside a couple of relevant legendaries, including Beardo. Might try the deck, maybe even with a second Garisson Commander if I heve enough fun with it. Any good lits and/or videos?
If I play this, will be my second cheesy win paladin deck, to make company to Last Kaleydosaur.

Interesting insight into the epics.
I just bought recently 60 gvg packs and I the past I opened around 10-15 and got 1 leg.. with this opening I got in first 10 packs 2 leg and after other 5. 1 golden..I think the rule works anyway because when the patch hit I opened WOGT and GAZ e in booth I found before the 10th pack a legendary. And I did opened them in past. This is my experience. Good luck

I don't have any decklists but the general idea is to play a Garisson Commander, Hero Power x2, and then Youthful Brewmaster the Horseman. Next turn play the Horseman and a second Garisson Commander if the first one died, then hero power x2 again and win.
From what I've heard this version is more reliable than the Beardo and Bully version because you don't have to rely on any input from your opponent and the only counterplay is Dirty Rat on one of the pieces.

Legendaries received (in order): Hemet Nesingwary, Mekgineer Thermaplugg, Mal'Ganis,Dr. Boom,Iron Juggernaut (Golden), Mogor the Ogre, and Bolvar Fordragon (immediately after Mogor, I might add).
Other notable cards (as in usefulness, not necessarily by rarity): x2 Glaivezooka, x2 Flamecannon, all the good Mech Mage stuff, x2 Shielded Minibot, x2 Muster for Battle, x1 Coghammer, x2 Iron Sensei, x2 Tinker's Sharpsword Oil, x1Ancestor's Call, x2 Crackle, x2 Darkbomb, x1 each of Mistress of Pain and Imp-losion, x1 Shieldmaiden, and x2 Jeeves.
Total excess dust (before disenchantment): 510, though that's because my collection was pretty small to begin with.
Notable cards I'm missing: x1 Echo of Medivh, x2 Quartermaster, x2 Lightbomb, x2 Powermace, x1 Ancestor's Call, x2 Demonheart(?), x2 Hobgoblin.
Golden cards: x1 Echo of Medivh, x1 Seal of Light, x1 Screwjank Clunker, x1 Iron Juggernaut, x1 Target Dummy, x1 Explosive Sheep, x1 Illuminator, x1 Kezan Mystic, x1 Piloted Shredder.
I'm pretty set, as far as I'm concerned. Just need to grab Naxx and I can craft the stuff I want with impunity, since I achieved my goal of getting at least either Mal'Ganis or Dr. Boom.
