When I saw the cards we were getting I thought Priest would be beast and they would have no problem being one of the top classes but the further we get into this new GvG meta I am starting to think we are worse off then before GvG. If you think about it GvG only really gave us a few cards that are even used in decks atm, Voljin is a staple card and many said that its really broken, best legendary and all that but after playing it for a long time you cant always get good value off of it especially in this aggro meta where your lucky to see something with 5 HP to use it on. Shrinkmeister is a good card but its another card that is only really good for comboing and usually clogs up your hand for a good few turns before you can make good use of it. Then there is also Dr.Boom but what deck that isn't Zoo or Aggro Hunter isn't running this? Other then those cards Light of the Naruu is pretty good but usually isn't enough to make a large impact for us and same for lightbomb which is another ok card but nothing too staple.
On top of the new GvG cards really not helping us out too much the classes we are good against are in kind of bad spots so you don't see them too much and the classes/decks that straight up beat us are really good. I guess its kind of a letdown for me because I had some higher hopes and also Shaman is in the same if not worse boat as Priest so with my other favorite class being a letdown it kind of gets to you. Im curious to see what other Priest players think about this topic, I mean I know any class can get to legend if played right and whatnot but when you play Shaman, Rogue or Priest then take a spin on some Hunter,Control Warrior or Zoo you really see the difference in power and how much easier a larger percentage of your games are.
The priest got quite a few cards that are amazing anti control, but nothing that is amazing versus aggro-midrange (mainly reason why priest isn't doing amazingly right now). If the meta starts to change you may see priest being better, but as long as it is mostly aggro it won't be prominent.
I would say it did since priest has a lot more options now. But I see priest being in a bad spot in the current meta because I feel it's problematic in place between Warrior/Handlock on one and Hunter and Zoo on the other side. As soon as there are more paladins to combat the current meta, than it's time for the priests to strike.
Voljin should sit in your hand for a while. It's intended as a counter. Same with Shrinkmeister. The cards added have enhanced Priests ability to steal or counter larger minions.
This doesn't help with Aggro decks. (Though they included neutrals that help with that)
If you are looking for Legendary than your options are limited. If you are looking to make a decent, fun deck, then GVG gave plenty of options for most classes.
The thing is though that Priests already have multiple cards that tend to sit in hand for a while so adding even more makes it kind of awkward some games when you have multiple tools to use in your hand but they need other cards to be used well or they just don't fit the situation. I mean GvG did offer a ton more fun for us as a class with all of these cool tricks but for a ladder/competitive we didn't get much imo.

That is true. Almost seems like Blizz designed priest to just be annoying little sh*ts and not an actual class to ladder with. But lets not forget that there has been times that priest was extremely broken (dark times indeed :D). If you like priest, wait. Your time will come again.
Question: If you're in a canoe, paddling upstream, and all four wheels fall off, how many pancakes does it take to sand the doghouse if there's 28 frogs in the oven?
Honestly I don't want Priest to be OP but at least it they had better match ups and I didn't go into 80% of my games thinking damn, this is gonna be a tough one it would be much nicer. I think Paladin is in a great spot right now, they are kind of the class that is not OP but by no means are weak because they do well and their deck is strong. that's what I kind of want Priests to be but they are pretty far off atm.
Priest did have the predictions for mostly likely to be OP after GvG and thank god it hasn't manifested. I enjoy me a priest deck every once and a while but I always want to take a bath afterwards.
I think there's still an OP priest deck out there just waiting to be developed though. Perhaps something with Hobgoblin or who knows.

the deck you are thinking about is ShadowPriest. I have been playing that for quite a while now and I have lost very few matches against control, and I win 50%+ of aggro matches. Only difference to normal priest is it takes a bit more skill and control match ups will likely go to fatigue. It isnt OP in the sense it has a 80% win rate+ but it is extremely strong in the right players hands
Deck list? Thanks.
And LOL Sage @ your "take a bath afterwards." I feel the same way :-)

Bare in mind, these arent the kind of decks you can expect to use and start winning straight away, you need to have a solid understanding of the cards being used and the synergies for possible board clears. This is my list, teched for aggro a little more imo:
Both of those cards are (in my opinion) essential for this deck.
Vol'jin : combos with Holy Smite , hero power etc for removal as well as giving you a strong minion.
Lightbomb : absolute life saver against aggro and control, because after board floods/overextends, you can clear most if not all of the board and clear up with hero power or more spells.
You can replace with 1x Shadow Word: Death and 1x Mind Control but it might not be as viable. I strongly recommend crafting these cards as they are used in most Priest decks anyway
Thanks. And yes, I plan to craft those (unless I luck out with packs first) when I get enough dust. Had to craft Boom first though - and I have zero regrets, Boom has been $.
I have been using both Control by Shadow and taunted Shadow decks this season. They take a lot of self-restraint, I notice.
If you just light bomb any large minion that pops up, you will run out of removal pretty quickly. I ti crazy weird to have to take a giant's 8 dmg to the face in order to get value of your light bomb the next turn, but that is part of playing this.
Also, when you go into shadow mode changes completely depending not only on the deck you face, but on the current situation. Generally, if I have a "free" turn AND am ahead on the board (aka mage uses portal summon thing turn 2, and nothing is on board), I will go for it early. Shadow Form, especially if you can get to the 3 dmg one, is powerful, powerful control. It allows you to Holy Fire a giant, for example: Shadow Form power plus the Holy Fire. Also, putting pressure on their hero's HP pool can make them reel back, which makes it difficult to recover.
But yes, I agree, these decks take a lot of practice. And a lot of time. But I have Out-milled Druid Mill decks, outlasted a double-tree-of-life Druid fatigue deck, outlasted many control warriors (though if smart, they go for face as fast as possible against me) and can do ok with agro, though it is 100% based on what I draw (which is why I hate agro, they don't play their opponent, they play their opponent's first 6 card draws). I can play well against mech mages as long as I get some AOE in a reasonable time frame. However, burst classes seem to tear me up. Shaman and burst-style druids seem to be the biggest problem.
Oh, and the controled shadow deck against freeze mages is hilarious! They wait for you to drop minions, you wait for them to drop minions. So both of your hands fill up, and you have to start using cards or lose them.

I really want Pirates to be a playable theme.
^This.^
That is very polite way of saying it.

For those of you who are either not Priest players, or have had the good fortune of not coming across one of us, we can now use Shrinkmeister to steal stuff like Chillwind Yetis with our Cabal Shadow Priests, and can use Recombobulator to keep things we've used Shadow Madness on.

Answer: I have no time for games!

Thanks. Any suggestions for replacements for the common denominator cards that I don't have? Vol'jin, 1x Lightbomb
Priest Jumped to #3 in Arena. Yes, GvG changed Priest.
Not sure if hyped yet.

Uhh, wow. Never thought of this. Thank you! I will now be a better thief than I was before!
