General Info
The introduction of Twilight Whelp has created a new path of possibilities for all priest fanatics. When used correctly, it can be seen as the superior to Zombie Chow whom many would claim is the best one drop for tempo and control decks. This deck hasn't just been forged for the sake of making a dragon priest deck, but to take advantage of a class which has struggled with the ladder in the past and re-invent itself so it can compete with the very best.
This deck has the ability to deal against early aggro with the likes of Twilight Whelp and Wild Pyromancer. Cards such as Power Word: Shield and Velen's Chosen can also be used with these early drops to provide a strong early resistance as well as a dominating board presence.
With so many dragons in the deck, you will should always be able to play efficiently and keep board presence. Blackwing Technician is a great 3-drop as it is hard for the opposition to have a hard removal for it at the early stages of the game. You should aim to play on curve with the deck. Draw power is at your disposal with the likes of Northshire Cleric, Power Word: Shield and Azure Drake.
The mid-range is arguably the strongest part of this deck with Hungry Dragon, Twilight Drake and Sludge Belcher being extremely good value for mana. Cabal Shadow Priest is great for keeping up the tempo and Holy Nova will be there in case you do start being overrun by very aggro hunter and age decks.
Sylvanas Windrunner and Ysera should be able to help you keep control in the latter stages of the game. Dr. Boom.. well we know what he can do...Chromaggus can be game-winning and is immune to Big Game Hunter.
Mulligans
Against aggro decks: mulligan for Twilight Whelp, Northshire Cleric and Wild Pyromancer. Although getting buffs wouldn't be bad.
Against tempo/control decks: mulligan for only one of the one drops. Blackwing Technician and Velen's Chosen are good cards to keep.

Match Ups
Against Priest
Against Priest - Usually strong, Twilight Whelp + Velen's Chosen is a good combo here as 4 attack is hard to direct remove for priest. Try to keep minions above 2 health by turn 5 to avoid a board clear with Holy Nova.
Against Paladin
Against Paladin - Having Northshire Cleric out early is great as it stops the paladin from using his hero power. Just keep applying pressure playing minions whenever possible. Silver Hand Recruits are easily dealt with if Pyromancer is out.
Against Hunter
Against Hunter - Assume it to be face hunter. Mulligan hard for one drops and Holy Nova. Turn 4 Try to have Sludge Belcher ready for turn 5. Make the most of your hero power if you want to have a chance! Wild pyromancer + power word: shield is extremely valuable combo.
Against Mage
Against Mage - Mulligan assuming its mech mage. Keep board control by trading minions in early game. If its tempo mage then buffing up minions and healing works better than dumping new ones on board. Holy Nova is great against the new Flamewalker Mage deck. Don't be afraid to silence their Flamewalker if you can't clear it.
Against Warrior
Against Warrior - Watch out for the new Grim Patron deck. Since this deck was made about 50% of warriors were playing that deck. Try to get a spell power buff on play by turn 5 such as Velen's Chosen or Azure Drake as this allows for Holy Nova to clear the board. Always clear the Warsong Commander ASAP to avoid the combo. Against the normal control warrior try to not have more than 3 minions on board after turn 6 to soften damage of brawl or get Sylvanas Windrunner out if you think they may brawl soon. Keep health above 12 during late game to avoid the Grommash Hellscream combo with Cruel Taskmaster.
Against Druid
Against Druid - Having 3/4's in starting hand can be ok as druids tend to have a slow start. Don't let Emperor Thaurissan to stay on board for over a turn to avoid OP combo's. Keeping health above 16 in the latter stages of game is crucial. Shadow Word: Death is great for this match up with the druid having many 5 attack minions.
Against Warlock
Against Warlock - Mulligan for low cost minions expecting for zoo. Keep board clearing if it is and Holy Nova is once again very effective in this match up. If handlock, be more aggressive at the start and saveShadow Word: Death for taunted giants.
Against Shaman
Against Shaman - Keep healing minions in case of a Lightning Storm. Shaman's have lots of removal so it will most likely come down to your bigger minions such as Chromaggus and Ysera to finish it for you.
Against Rogue
Against Rogue - If it is mill rogue, play as much as possible and go face. If it is oil rogue, you should always find yourself with a board advantage so keep applying pressure and don't commit to much to avoid a Blade Flurry wipeout.
Future Changes
If the Grim Patron deck does become more popular, a Lightbomb could be used. in this case an Azure Drake could be replaced. Ideally, if you have Velen's Chosen on a card already, then Holy Nova would be sufficient.
Recent Changes
I've removed one Big Game Hunter in favour of a second Shadow Word: Death to help against the increasing number of 5-6 attack minions such as Emperor Thaurissan and the new Dragon Legendaries.
And a lot more updates which I cba to write but they have improved deck performance a lot.

P.S. Please feel free to comment any suggestions as they will be answered ASAP, and Good Luck!
Thoughtsteal, Wild Pyromancer, Ysera, and Cabal Shadow Priest are not tempo cards, they are control cards. This is a control deck.
Toshly makes no sense. Neither does Chromaggus.
Dark Cultist is redundant with Blackrock Technician. You don't need two 3 drop cards that do 3 damage. There's no health bonus synergy anyway so the cultist is not necessary.
If you actually think you're playing tempo, put in Loatheb, and sub in Onyxia instead of Ysera.
Or synergize with mind blast, shadow bomber, Drakonid crusher, and Malygos. Drakonid Crusher is a real tempo card. Another real tempo card - Holy Smite.
This deck is very nice! 6-1 with comebacks absolutely amazing against HandLock and Priest ! In the other hand i won too easily against Facehunter and mid-range Paladin.
Y have tried this variation for more pressure in late game and works very well:
-1Ysera
+1 Rend Blackhand
-1 Toshley
+1 Drakonid Crusher
What is good replacement for Toshley?
There is hard to replace toshley, cause nothing gives you 2 piece of 1 mana cost spells, which are easy to combo with pyromancer. It is quite important card actually. Try Mech Yeti.
I've been playing priest for almost a year now, and I've been testing Dragon Priest for a few days. I've settled on this deck for the past day and a half.
I've been playing and testing it between ranks 12-8 before I settle on a deck and push for legend, maybe with about 30-40 games under my belt. I did replace one shadow madness for Vol'Jin with good results. Many people are running Yseara or other high toughness but low attack creatures, and since we do not run Mind Control I feel we need something to deal with them. I also run one hungry dragon over one of the Dragonkin, as two of them seems a bit much- Your buffs are usually used early to trade favourably or saved until late game to buff Chromaggus for a double draw on turn 9. a 3/5 for 4 without the buff really doesn't cut it in a tempo deck. Finally, I do run Boom in place of Toshley.
Overall, the deck preforms above average. I'm not sure it's something that could be taken to legend easily, as some times (especially when you go second) your hand is just way too slow for the first 3 turns. This really isn't the fault of the deck creator, I just think the meta is too fast for priest a lot of the time right now. The games where you do pull that Whelp into turn two Blackwing Tech to Dark Cultist you almost feel like you're cheating, but more often than not your hand ends up being Dark Cultist/Four Drop/Shadow Word, even with an aggressive mulligan, as you watch your opponent set up the board for two turns.
I'm not sure about Wild Pyro. It's clearly the MVP of many control priest decks, but in this deck it seems it rarely lives long enough to get a burn off, once again especially if you go first. Also, remember that we do not run circle of healing, which means we have two less spells than an average priest to proc Wild Pyro (which you do use sometimes, like running pyro into a haunted creeper and then circling.) Testing could be done with Shadow Boxer, Gilbin Stalker, or if you're ballsy, Fairy Dragon.
I'm going to continue to play this deck, I anticipate being able to take it to Rank 3-4 with a little work, but I'm anxious to see any meta shifts that might make this deck even better.
Thanks for posting the deck, I've had a great time with it.
I am running Shadow Boxer instead of the wild pyros, my deck is loosely similar but no Dragonkin and one Loathed instead. (and other things different too.)
But Shadow Boxer are good and do some good work against Face hunter's minions.
I think we are close to what we need as far as a Dragon Priest.
Nefarian, though the difference is noticable
Is Vol'jin a good replacement for Toshley? This looks like a fun deck, thanks for sharing.
Ummm, how does this make sense? Isn't Toshley there for synergy with wild pyro and dragokin sorcerer? Can you explain how it works with shadow madness and cabal? Also, I use boom in his place.
I'm not a fan of the Shrink + Cabal combo (especially at 1x each); it can help you trade more efficiently as a stand-alone minion but the early game is pretty much covered and the minions in this deck already stress efficient trades enough. Perhaps to bait out BGH or to close out matches you could sub in Drakonid Crusher? As a vanilla 6/6 it's a nice body but as a 9/9 it eats hard removal and presses the advantage
Having played this deck extensively, I can say that if you prefer, a second Wild Pyromancer could be used in place of Shrinkmeister. The idea with Shrinkmeister was to give the deck a way to answer a turn 6/7 Ysera out of Dragon Paladin. Regardless of which two drop you choose to play, the deck still performs, though Cabal Shadow Priest is invaluable against most aggro decks. While it could perhaps be replaced with something like a Drakonid Crusher, I would suggest replacing Cabal with a Blackwing Corruptor for tempo if you insist on replacing it.
Dragonkin Sorcerer is great with buffs and all, but don't you think 2 of them are a bit clunky with only 4 buffs? Also it's not like you're gonna save those buffs to cast on Sorcerers only. How about just one Sorcerer and something like Hungry Dragon or Twilight Drake? Or maybe Light of the Naaru might be a good addition to back Sorcerers up some more.
I tested with Hungry Dragon and Mind Control Tech with HILARIOUS results. Let them play a few minions, decent-sized ones by around t6, MCT, and the game changes quick. Not as consistent, but awesome when it works.
is twilight drake necessary?
and is there any replacement?
what will you replace it then?
I like the idea of Dragon Priest, but ....
Chromaggus and Ysera are sooo damm slow cards, i rarelly manage to make good use of them .. sure they are dragons and can make a huge diference in some cases but most of the times they are just dead cards in hand.
[card]Emperor Thaurissan[/card] is just so good to pass and has and impact the turn you play it.
After some games with this deck, and after beeing recked by agroo decks i liked the idea of include [card]Wild Pyromancer[/card] but the deck after this change has few spells to trigger the Wild Pyromancer, i would include back the [card]Thoughtsteal[/card]
Dr. Boom is without a doubt an amazing card and your only BGH target, keeping with the theme of the deck i would replace it with Nefarian still a BHG target but would give you more spells to triger wild pyromancer
My final iteration of this deck is
Removed Dark Cultist , too many 3 drops and added one Dragonkin Sorcerer nice to combo with Velen's Chosen and Power Word: Shield, also added 1xHoly Fire for an extra heal/remove
I ran a deck similar to this that used the Auchenai + Circle and it was soooooo clunky. This is much more streamlined with single-card value and stopping power with taunts.
One recommendation for aggro matchups is subbing Giblin for Shadowboxer; opponents don't know how to combat it well and it can ping 1-health tokens.
I also think that the Twilight Drake may be only an Filler until the last wing comes out; there we might get some better Dragons than we already have.
Hey Tom,
Just got this as a recommendation from ya, looks great! Awesome write up as well! Thanks again and I'll be sure to let you know how it goes!
US Army Op
It is hard to beat control matchups like Warrior and especially Handlock. Need at least 1 Velen's Chosen replacement for Lightbomb maybe.
And, Twilight Drake isn't good as handlock. Because you can't get that much card in turn 4. When you play it in curve, you get 4-5 like Chillwind Yeti but could be silenced :(
I am running another version of this deck with more spells, rank 5 now. I don't know what am i going to change when last wing is released. At least, i am sure i am going to use Dragon Sorcerors. :)
