Here is my adapted version for the Vargoth Highlander Quest Mage, climbed from 20 to Rank 5 in Wild and depending on what you're facing this could go to Rank 1 (not very fast tho) but the main thing is that it's a really fun deck and has a suprisingly decent winrate and some good matchups in the current meta (see below).

First of all, the combo:

  1. Complete the quest
  2. Play Archmage Vargoth and quest, end turn
  3. Make sure you don't have other minions except Archmage Vargoth and play Molten Reflection on Archmage Vargoth, attack and ping face if you can, end first extra turn
  4. Play Drakkari EnchanterViolet Illusionist and Research Project attack with all the Vargoths and ping face if you can, end second extra turn

The full combo makes the enemy draw 19 cards, drawing 8 times is 37 fatigue damage.

Card explanation:

Highlander package: Zephrys the GreatReno JacksonReno the RelicologistKazakus

Cards needed for combo: Open the WaygateArchmage VargothViolet IllusionistDrakkari EnchanterMolten ReflectionResearch Project

Spell generation for quest: Babbling BookMagic Trick, Ray of Frost, Licensed Adventurer, Primordial Glyph, sometimes Zephrys the Great, Mana Bind, Kazakus

Matchups:

Ressurect Priest: Highly favored, try to get a polymorph from Kazakus and just draw cards and finish the quest and get all the combo pieces. Don't destroy their minions unless you have to. The Amazing Reno is very good against them because it clears their board without destroying the minions.

Secret Mage: I was actually surprised to see this deck go toe to toe with secret mages. It is a VERY stressful game nonetheless. Play around Counterspell with the coin from going second or from Licensed Adventurer or create 1 mana potion from Kazakus. Copy Reno Jackson with Zola the Gorgon. Don't be afraid to play Doomsayer just to eat the damage from Explosive Runes. If you manage to last long enough they will run out of cards because of Aluneth so you can kill them just with Archmage Vargoth and Research Project plus/minus Drakkari Enchanter without needing the quest completed.

Mecha'Thun Warlock: they are slightly favored. You need to draw as fast as them. Use Zola the Gorgon on card drawing minions. Get draw from Kazakus and keep cards that generate spells so you use them with Stargazer Luna because when generating spells they are put on the right of your hand. I won a few games by discovering Potion of Polymorph and playing it the turn before they played Mecha'thun

Mech Paladin: Very difficult to win. You need to get Brawl or Mass Dispell from Zephrys the Great. Don't need to go for the combo against them, just make them run out of steam. Use Archmage Vargoth to generate value and answers for their board.

Pirate Warrior: Didn't meet a lot of them but it's the same as for Mech Paladin, i'd say even more difficult

Even Shaman: Didn't meet too many but you should have enough tools to deal with them

Highlander Shudderwock Shaman: met a few of those. It's a pretty bad matchup because of Dirty Rat and Shudderwock repeating the dirty rat effect
